I've got a nearly new notebook that won't run Knights of the Old Republic (either one) due to some incompatability with the ATI Radeon Xpress 200M video card. I'd like to play the damn thing sometime in the next three years, so... does anyone have any idea how to get around this problem aside from getting a new computer? Do they make USB video cards or something? Is there some sort of secret fix that extensive google searches don't reveal?
Thanks in advance.
Crazy question: USB video card?

No, I don't believe they make USB video cards.
And even if they did, there's no way in hell it'd be capable of handling any remotely modern game, because USB cannot sustain anywhere near the data transfer rate (to say nothing of a host of other issues) necessary for that sort of application.

USB video cards do exist, but it's not really a good idea for 3D games, unless you like slideshows. If possible, I'd say add an internal video card, though if you're on a laptop, that's fairly close to impossible.

Well, there are laptops available for about half of that that are capable of at least playably running most games. Not that such info helps the OP at all, unless he wants to try selling his current unit.Nephtys wrote:And this is why one does not game on a Laptop. At least, one that doesn't cost 2000+ dollars.

Ah.
Well, thanks anyway. : P I aplogize for sounding dense; I only know the basics about how computers operate.
Anyway, KotOR I & II are literally the only games my notebook can't handle, and it's only due to some compatability thing with the graphics card.
But yeah, I'm not about to try getting a new computer just to play these games. I don't really game much, anyway-- I just wanted to run through The Sith Lords to get the gist of the storyline.
Oh well.
