Just a Question.
Are there actually any trekkies left on this board?
I mean I know Wong is a Warsie, obviously; and so that means this site will be dominated by warises, but are there any actual trekkies left? I don't mean the irrational and irritating trekkie trolls that appear on all boards...I mean the rational and reasonable people who just happen to like ST.

To put it simply... he used to.Morning Star wrote:Oh, I haven't seen them posting. Must be a bit daunting to try and debate to an entire (almost) site of Warsies. Does Darkstar post here? I know he gets flamed alot over at SB.com.
He dared Wong to ban him, and it happened.

How much of an Ass-hole do you have to be to get banned on one board and regularly flamed on another board?Crayz9000 wrote:To put it simply... he used to.Morning Star wrote:Oh, I haven't seen them posting. Hey, I like Star Trek. Mind you, I don't like the zombified piece of putrid flea-ridden shit that's being sold under the name Star Trek right now, but I do like real Star Trek (note to the uninformed: real Star Trek has a character named "Kirk" in it).Morning Star wrote:Are there actually any trekkies left on this board?

The problem with "vs" debates is that rabid Trekkies like Darkstar have perverted ST and SW fandom to mean "ST and SW military superiority complex", so that your allegiance is determined by your opinions on who would win a fight. This is asinine; it is possible to be a Trekkie and still recognize that the Federation and all of their little AQ butt-buddies would get their asses handed to them by a 3-ship Imperial patrol.
In short, this board is full of Trekkies, as long as you use the proper definition of the word rather than Darkstar's definition.

I like TOS and DS9. I would qualify as a 'Trekkie' even though I root for th Empire in vs debates.

You could consider me a Trekkie. I like TOS and the movies up 'til Generations.

Re: Just a Question.
Do you consider TNG as real? Roddenbury did think of the idea but I don't know if you'd consider it to be real by your definitions. I like TOS, and some of TNG and DS9, but all the recent B&B crap just makes me feel like I'm watching generic manufactured rubbish.AdmiralKanos wrote:Hey, I like Star Trek. TOS was so good because Roddenbery had influence, but not too much. TNG is his vision of the future; the hippy commie pussy bastards. TOS was forced to be more militaristic than his vision.
Howedar is no longer here. Need to talk to him? Talk to Pick.

The one thing I like about Trek is the way it treats religions. I mean how many "gods" have been destroyed or debunked in all the shows together? TOS in particular had Kirk thrash quite a few deitys?
McCoy even referred to the Genesis as a myth in Warth of Khan. Oh, do I love that scene.
Also Gene Roddenberry has been quoted saying "Religions vary in their degree of idiocy, but I reject them all.". You got to admit that the guy had the proper attitude towards religions and this does reflect on the way TOS treated religions.
But then came along TNG: "justice" and the stupid 'Edo God' (cruel and quick with the DP just as Jehova) and Picard doesn't blow the god out of the sky. Man that episode pisses me off.

I've never understood why saying, "In a fight between X and Y, X would lose" necessarily means that you don't like X. It may just be an honest assessment of their relative abilities.
I'm pretty sure Jet Li could kick my mom's ass, but that doesn't mean I love her any less for it. As long as I'm still in the will and the life insurance premiums have been paid on time.
Getting back to the other part of your question, I'm still a trekkie and a warsie but I've come to realize my affection for Trek is based more on what it could be rather than what it is now. When I think about what I've liked about Trek in the last few years, it comes down the First Contact (which still had flaws a plenty, but I liked it nevertheless), some episodes of DS9 (though I thought the last couple of seasons by-and-large wasted a lot of potential), and several of the books (most of which admittedly suck, but there are some good ones there).
Jesus, that came out more negatively than I'd intended.
Anyway, I think the potential's still there. After having B&B dragged out and shot, you need to give to a couple of people who can sort the wheat from the chaff, figure out what essential aspects made Trek work to begin with, and identify and dispose of what sucks. Then, you can move forward not in half-assed imitation of the previously-successful elements, but rather building upon those elements as an inspiration and as a framework for whatever you end up doing.

It's okay to kiss a nun; just don't get into the habit.
According to Wong's definition ( see his website ), a trekkie=Darkstar.
Trekker = Alyeska, TheDarkling, etc, me ( even if during the first day following my first vs debate, I was really convinced that the Empire would have got its ass kicked, and then I came here, on SD-net, and... a logical conclusion followed ), and even ... Wong himself !
Nah, just kidding on this one. Wong's a hardcore TOSer, apparently.
BTW I like all 4 first series ( not seen ENT in my country ). For me, they all have great moments, and really shitty eps. DS9 being the weakest IMHO. I used to be a hardcore TNGer. And I love TOS. I actually can appreciate some parts of Voyager ( not seen much of it, though ), but sometimes it is really painful.
But now, I'd define myself as a Vulture rather than as a trekker, fiver, or warser.

I used to be a big fan of Trek. After all there was more of it to enjoy. At that time there were 3 movies and that was all. Compared to that Trek had several off shoots, Novels, and some decent games.
Then I read the Zahn Trillogy and i was hooked. ABout the time of Voyager i lost any remaining respect i had for ST and what it has become.
Don't get me wrong i still like DS9, it was the best thing to happen to Trek, Sisko isn't a pussy hiding his yellow streak behind diplomasy.

According to my dictionary a Trekkie is defined as:
"a fan of the US sci-fi series Star Trek" (Yes Trekkie is in the dictionary)
I think there are a lot of Trekkies on these boards.
