Where was hurricane season this year?

Post by Natorgator »

Last year, meteorologists were predicting that this year's hurricane season was going to be worse. However, we haven't had any at all this year that I can recall save for the tropical depression that hit Florida. What happened?

Killed by El Nino.

That flippant little answer sums it up rather nicely. The long answer is that the developing El Nino conditions in the Pacific prevented the west-to-east trade winds from dying down, as they usually do during hurricane season. This means that the storms that form tend to turn back to the east sooner than usual, and the ones that do form are kept weak by the wind-shear, as hurricanes don't much like strong upper-level winds impacting their circulations.

Well, since we had a couple of small tornados in AUSTRIA (For the first time I can remember!), I think "hurricane season" has found a new location for vacation.
A minute's thought suggests that the very idea of this is stupid. A more detailed examination raises the possibility that it might be an answer to the question "how could the Germans win the war after the US gets involved?" - Captain Seafort, in a thread proposing a 1942 'D-Day' in Quiberon Bay

The atmosphere chose not to co-operate. During the first half of the season a high pressure ridge stalled over the mid-Atlantic and tore apart every storm which tried to form. The Gulf of Mexico & Caribbean also had high shear conditions and dry air which prevented tropical cyclones from forming. Later in the season, the ridge in the mid-Atlantic went away but got replaced by one closer to shore, hurricanes could form over the east to mid-Atlantic but would get bounced away or sheared apart if they tried to hit North America.

We had record high sea surface temperatures & total heat content so if the atmosphere co-operated and a hurricane got into the GOM, we would've been really fucked. There was more than enough energy in the GOM & Caribbean to support several Cat 5 storms. Good thing air conditions weren't favourable this year.

Say, do you want it to be a threesome with your wife? Or a foursome with your wife and sister-in-law? I'm up for either. :P

So, in summary:

"This was the worst Hurricane season on Record! Global Warming is to blame!"

and

"This Hurricane heason was a joke...Global Warming is to blame!" ?
"The rifle itself has no moral stature, since it has no will of its own. Naturally, it may be used by evil men for evil purposes, but there are more good men than evil, and while the latter cannot be persuaded to the path of righteousness by propaganda, they can certainly be corrected by good men with rifles."

Learn to read. If conditions unrelated to global warming hadn't killed the storm season, this would have been the worst storm season on record. Again.
"Guys, don't do that"

Don't you just love kneejerk responses by people who are unusually and unnecessarily defensive about an issue?
