Inventory time!

Post by Andrew J. »

I have created this thread so that all you wonderful guys can list (read: brag about) all the stuff you got for Christmas. I shall go first, and list my presents in no particular order:

Dilbert and the Way of the Weasel by Scott Adams;

Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones on DVD;

Set of fingernail and toenail clippers (not-so-subtle hints from my parents; I don't cut my nails as often as I probably should);

Vaseline Lip Therapy petroleum jelly (chapped lips, don'tcha know);

Two (2) hollow M&M shaped chocolates, filled with actuals M&Ms;

Two (2) giant Hershey's Kisses;

A Boston Candy Kitchen Santa-shaped chocolate;

A pair of earmuffs;

Two (2) pairs of flannel pajama pants;

An Old Navy toy fire truck (hey, I collect toy trucks, okay?);

A 2003 Dave Barry Calendar;

Men In Black II on DVD;

Back to the Future Box set DVDs;

Metroid Prime for Nintendo Gamecube;

Godzilla vs. Megaguiras on Region 0 DVD with original Japanese track and English subtitles;

And finally Godzilla, Mothra, King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All Out Attack on Region 0 DVD with original Japanese track and English subtitles.

Have a happy winter solstice!
Don't hate; appreciate!

RIP Eddie.

You'll love them, just don't expect them to stop too well for the first few rides until they break in. I learned this the hard way when they first came out and we were upgrading bikes with them. The first time I tried to stop I was squeezing the brake levers as hard as I could and the bike was barely slowing!

Break in tips, or how I got my XT discs working good in under an hour. Start by braking from a low to medium speed on a flat road or parking lot until you have a bit of braking power to work with. 3-5 stops should do it. Then find a quiet road with a nice long downhill. Get your bike going as fast as you can then slam the brakes on hard until you stop, repeat about 3-5 times and that should do the trick. Don't worry if the brakes start squealing or honking from the heat buildup, it's normal. This will get the brakes up to about 80% of full power in about an hour, they'll continue settling in and getting better over the next week or so and you'll notice improvements in feel and control.

Installation tips. Unless you got the pre-bled brakes that are already filled with fluid, bleed the rear brake BEFORE you install it on the bike. Our shop has found that the rear brake doesn't bleed very well after it's installed on the bike and ends up with air bubbles in the brake line.

Anyways, I got home baked cookies for Christmas. Yum! 8)

You should know that the last two discs on like every box set are defective. The company knows this and still sold the sets. You can get them switched out. Check, www.thedigitalbits.com or dvd.ign.com. They'll give you more info.

I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in his stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Counciler or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate, who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who constantly says: "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I cannot agree with your methods of direct action"; who paternalistically believes he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by a mythical concept of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait for a "more convenient season."

(For the record, I am Wiccan/Christian.)

Well I got what I asked for: money and food.

Total score thus far:

(12/24/02)

A great evening with the family. (Yes, my mom is fullblood Czech, so we celebrate on the 24th, and her parents (my grandparents) are in seattle so that's where we went.)

$200 in cash and checks (Higher than I figured, this brings me up to $550 for the new system.)

$10 gift certificate for Barnes & Noble, though I'd rather have $10 in cash (Fireworks, specifically sparklers and a roll of duct tape... ) so I will most likely end up trading this to one of my parents. (Btw, I do read, a lot, but New Years is coming up and I'm saving as much of my money as I can for building a new LAN computer, but New Years just isn't "right" without blowing something up! :mrgreen: )

Lots of candy and food.

Got drunk of my aunt's rumballs... (Having a European family and an aunt that lives in Australia just kicks ass!)

(12/25/02)

Woke up at noon to my mom informing me that her eye is acting up again (She had surgery last week for detached retina), and that it's worse this time than last time... Crap... Guess who gets to make dinner? That's right, ME... (Not a problem, as long as she can get the eye fixed tomorrow. I certainly don't mind helping out around the house and I do so alot anyway.)

I'm still rather pleasantly amazed that I didn't get jipped by the family since this was the first Christmas after I came out... And the number of conservative right-wingers is rather insane. In all I had fun, and I can't wait for next year! :mrgreen:

Stuff I'm buying myself after 1/15/03:

*AMD AthlonXP 2600+/333FSB (Retail box so it has 3 year "no-fry" warrantee.) ($289)
**AMD AthlonXP 2100+ OEM ($84)
Epox EP-8K9A2+ mainboard ($116)
512mb DDR333 (PC2700) ($133)
ASUS V9280 GeForce4 Ti4200 128mb AGP8x($155)
Blue or blacklight CCFT caselight ($12.99)

Total cost of new LAN system #2 upgrades: $500.99

* On hold until the price drops, that price is awful.
** Holdover proc until I can get the 2600+/333FSB proc.

As for me, I've already posted this in another thread, but I figured if I was going to copy the link here, I may as well just post it again to save you the trip.

Three (count 'em, 3) pairs of diamond earrings (yes, I'm spoiled, but only as of VERY recently).
A kickass picture frame from my brother and another lovely one that I got from Ewo (I collect them).
The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings in trilogy form, and the four Harry Potter books that have been written so far (hardcover and in box set form).
A cute zip-up hoodie sweater.
A gorgeous poster of Cradle Mountain, Tasmania and a calendar of Tasmania.
A very soft kangaroo (w/baby roo) stuffed animal.
The Fugitive on DVD.
Really soft Angora socks and GREEN BAY SOCKS!! And a Green Bay sweatshirt and cheesehead earrings too! :D
2 packages of Vanilla Chai tea and a mug to go along with it.
Gift certificate for $100 to my favourite clothing store.
Gift money (I'm 99.999999% sure this was a mistake) called "Orthobucks" which, as far as I can figure, is from an orthodontist. As I've never had braces nor ever will (and since that would be a fucked-up present), I'm pretty sure my aunt & uncle got something mixed up. :D
About $200 to spend on whatever.
