ThatGuyFromThatPlace, Dishonest Retard

This has been going on in the Ender's Game thread for a week now and this asshole is busy building a Tharkun-style Wall of Ignorance. He's been challenged repeatedly to provide evidence for his arguments but refuses to do so, keeps tapdancing around argument, and simply denies evidence inconvenient to him.

I put it to this body whether or not this person has earned a Village Idiot label, any other title deemed fit by this body, or if he's yet to meet the minimum standard for persistent idiocy.

Just the two snippets quoted in your post with the links were enough, Patrick. I've had a really fucking bad day since right after my work shift ended, so I have no mercy for fuckwits like that. VI for now, and the next time he fucks up, ban him.

His attitude when he came out swinging when there was no need for it were grade-A jackass. I'd give him the title of "Git", but Village Idiot will do. At the very least, he needs to give on the radio astronomy thing, even if he doesn't concede the point of about technological advancement.

No title - I'm not interested in entering that fight, but Dice had you dead to rights Patrick. You managed to get the topic to shift, but your initial position makes no damn sense. In fact a lot of your statements in there are out of left field. The guy is oing a shitty job debating, but his positions are not inaccurate. A lot of yours are.

Quite frankly it looks like you are just getting frustrated because the thing is dragging on and on and came here to try and force some resolution and get some validation that you are right (eg your demands he "slink from the battlefield"). And that is NOT our job.

No title. What Ender said sums up my own misgivings about this particular titling poll. Mind you, ThatGuyFromThatPlace may exercised poor judgement in that particular debate, but not quite to the level that would merit a VI.

It does not seem to be in a senator's job description to arbitrarily haul up people before the Senate that they're engaged in a long, drawn-out debate with. And whatever TGFTP's shortcomings as a debater might be, this thread does seem to, or at least gave the impression of, having been started by a particular senator as a result of their own personal frustration with him.

I'm sorry, but that is not at all an accurate reading of that thread. TGFTP is trying desperately to fill in a hole in the evidence with his own imaginings instead of meeting even a minimum standard of proof when challenged repeatedly to do so. He ignores the "best evidence" standard and stupidly continues to handwave away facts which are inconvenient to his position.

To quote Debate Rules 5 & 6 from the Board Policies thread:

5. Do not employ the "broken record" debating style. Continuously repeating yourself regardless of what others say is a quick way to get banned.

6. If you are asked for evidence to support a claim you've made, you should either produce this evidence or concede the point until such time as you can produce this evidence. People who consistently ignore requests for evidence to support their claims (particularly contentious claims) are not looked upon kindly here.

Very clearly, ThatGuyFromThatPlace has violated both rules and persists in doing so.

No, I "get frustrated" when somebody goes right for the Wall of Ignorance tactic and carries it on no matter how many times his arguments are refuted. ThatGuyFromThatPlace has essentially repeated the exact same argument through three or four pages now. If that doesn't qualify as the definition of an idiot by this point, I don't know what does.

As for my "challenge", I was mocking him and, as per his pattern, he was too dumb to pick up on it.

But if the consensus of the Senate goes against me, I will not dispute it. Suffice to say, TGFTP has demonstrated the clear signs that he is indeed a troll and an idiot. This will not be the last time his behaviour will come up for examination.

I'm not interested in joining that debate Patrick. Nor should it spread to here. But while he is doing a very shitty job debating you your position is the wrong one. It is based off a very limited and self contradicting interpration of a quote and factual ingorance. A number of other statements from you in that thread are simply wrong as well - some you were called on, but a couple slipped through. And even if that were not the case you are out of line. It should be the mods stepping in and bringing this to our attention, not you. Surleteh did the same in June and while it is somewhat mitigated by the fact that he was interceding for a friend rather then calling for punishment, it was out of line there as well.

It is the mods job to enforce the rules. Not ours. We are simply given the privelege of advising them.

I dispute your interpretation of the thread in question, but as you point out, the Senate is not the place for such an argument. Points taken on other matters. I did perhaps allow my anger to cloud my judgement and took steps I should not have.

I defer to the will of the Senate.

Honestly I don't think this has yet risen to the level that it merits anything as serious as a titling. Maybe a quiet word or two but a title is way more than is neccessarry.

I can see this is goign to be a Long one. Consider yourself lucky (No, I'm not even going to bother explaining that, and it definately doesn't mean what you think it does.)

This and the follow-up bits (starting on page 3 of the thread in question) about it are what get me within a hair's breadth of saying VI. It was followed up with:

I went and told you it didn't mean what you thought it meant, and you went and assumed it did anyway. Why does everything in this thread suddenly revolve around you?

and when told that if you say something, mean it:

oh I meant it, just not the way it looks (which is why I put the 'no this does not mean what you think it means' disclaimer on it) Nobody here knows me well enough to understand why I was compelled to slap it up there even if I did explain it, so I'm not going to, and it still doesn't mean what you think it does.

He continues on this concept that his disclaimer essentially exempts him from having to explain his meaning AND not allowing anyone to assume they knew what he was actually saying. Inside jokes are one thing, but you don't get to couch your insults and condescension in them and then get to pretend you have a magic shield protecting you from receiving a return salvo. You might as well follow an insult up with "(no tag-backs)." I think a mod should have a chat with him about that kind of thing.
