Hardest game you've played this year?

Post by loomer »

Well, since the other thread got locked because the OP consisted entirely of one emoticon, I figured I'd ressurect it in a manner that hopefully won't be locked down.

So come, share the hardest game you've played this year!

Personally, 'twould have to be Defcon. Always with the death of everyone and the losing of the silos!

((This is has been a proud violation of my vow of nontypingnessity in order to save a potentially enjoyable thread.))

W.A.R. Soldiers.

It was also the worst game i´ve ever played. It´s an FPS and you start in a jungle which is for some reasons covered with mines. It´s very hard to see the mines and you can´t shoot them.
Every once in a while an enemy will appear out of nowhere run at you like on tracks and then shoot. Your character then makes wierd noises and you have to find out where the enemy is because you can´t here them, so if by pure luck you survive the mines and the first enemy you´ll surely die when 3 enemies come at you and then you stop playing because it´s the worst piece of shit you´ve ever seen.
The back of the box has the following listed as features:

- 5 Levels
- several weapons (!)
- Intro (!!!)
- Dangerous Vietnamatmosphere (minefields, snipers)

Stechkov Syndicate on hardest difficulty. Fucking ouch.

Defcon also really rates.

Also - El Matador, Max Payne style gameplay with a Tom Clancy game damage model (for you at least - all the enemies seem to be able to take a full mag of 9mm).

Get TESIV: Oblivion Configured Exactly How You Want So It Stands Up to Morrowind.

So hard I just gave up after several frustrated nights.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention Oblivion with the "you stole a horse - KILL HIM!", after I fucking talked to the stable owner, got a horse and rode away with them telling me to have a nice day. Apparently that makes me a filthy horse thief who is doomed to be hunted down in every village I come to regardless of whether ornot I have a horse...

Fucking crap.

Woah, you mean I'm not the only one who thought Oblivion was a massive disappointment? Huh.

GRAW. Hey look, you died. Again. For the 6th time this level. And you're probably going to die another dozen times before you're done.

I find in Defcon I can avoid losing too badly, but big wins are rare. If I walk away with a ten point victory, I'm pretty happy with myself.

It's kind of sad that I've been playing through Morrowind again with a fresh assortment of mods. Desperately torn between its superiorness and Oblivion's updated graphics, mechanics, and other niceties, I spent the last week bashing my head against a wall trying to find and use mods that would make it more playable.

I failed.

So, back to Morrowind.

GTA: SA.

I haven't completed it. I haven't even got past the third mission. Though thats less to do with the hardness of the game and more to do with the shitiness of it. It just did play anything like GTAIII or Vice City at all. And looked like shit.

I wasn't having fun so a ditched it.

Generation of Chaos (PSP). I think there's a good game in here but it just takes a lot of figuring out what the heck all those menu options actually do. Downloading the free guide helped a little. AI appears to be cheating. I just don't get what's going on in the game half the time.

Iwar2. I hate being killed in the time between a cutscene's letterbox opening, and I gain flight controls from one enemy ship.

GRAW (PC) - hey look your team mates ARE MORE FUCKING RETARDED THAN THOSE IN RAVEN SHIELD.

I had one getting shot in the back repeatedly by a guy standing 3 feet behind him and obsinately REFUSING to look at the bad guy shooting at him, despite the fact that he had previously been ordered to cover that fire sector.

Having that happen to ALL of my team mates was a genuine pain in the arse. LEVEL AFTER FUCKING LEVEL.

Add to that problems with things like the HORRIBLE FUCKING JAGGIES that meant that you couldn't see things properly at range. Top it all off with a control scheme for your team mates that blows and horrific system requirements... It made it very hard. I want to like it so much...

Warsow. It's a free FPS based on the Q2(3?) engine, and its designed especially for competitive play. I'm very good at FPSes (Could probably hand anybody here their ass if I had time to familiarize myself with the game :P, can hold my own against CAL-I CS players and I don't even play CS), and I was getting rocked by the bots on default settings.

Edit: A Google Video link if anybody is interested: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid ... 1&q=warsow

Edit Edit: I don't find Defcon too hard. Maybe my opponents just aren't too good, but I don't have too much trouble winning by like 50 points or more.

2-player Ikaruga on the hardest setting. It takes SO much practice to make sure you're both in the right polarity.
