Well..I got you all beat.

I watched my two boys (4 y.o. and 2 y.o.) open their gifts. Seeing their faces light up and hearing them laugh and play was the best thing I ever recieved. It really gives you that warm and fuzzy feeling. Happy Holidays Everyone!!

Cool hay how many of us got Stupid White Men, and how many have started it? I hadn't even heard about it but now... I am REALLY liking the book. (Expect threads starting soon on some of the points... once I feel the Xmass season of goodwill is over of course... No need to rush into it... besides I want to finish the book first.)
From a review of the two Towers.... 'As for Gimli being comic relief, what if your comic relief had a huge axe and fells dozens of Orcs? That's a pretty cool comic relief. '

A bunch of chocolate
None of my family calling me
I had to call my aunt to get her to come to me
I had to call my mom to tell her Merry Christmas because she was supposed to come up to ABQ to pick me up for XMas stuff. She backed out. Again.

Not much

Huuuuuuuuuge Bunny Slippers [niece] (ok i don't wear slippers but how could i say no, and besides they even have a pair of big felt teeth on the front.)
Cuddly Balrog [Nephew] (he made it himself at school, it's about 4 inches tall and even has a wire 'skeleton' so it can hold a pose... as well as a chibi Balrog can be posed of course :) )
Complete Lankhmar collection [Sister] (I thought these were out of print but she found them)
CityHunter & Project A DVD [Brother and sister-inlaw]
Fleece jacket [mum] (she also insisted I go round and eat a meal normally used to serve 20 people... It was a hard task, but I did it :D )

Assorted goodies from friends (Xmas evening tradition, have a party and give each other little nonsense gifts :D )

The 'I have money to burn, buy myself some pressies' presents:

LOTR Collectors edition with Argonath bookends.
Patlabor Complete Tv Series + all 3 movies DVD
Cowboy Bebop, The perfect sessions DVD
Outlaw Star, The Perfect Collection DVD
Martian Successor Nadesico Complete series DVD Boxset
Evangelion Boxset +Death & Rebirth + End of DVDs
Eddie Izzard Circle DVD
Alphonse figure
Electronic Sauron (still hasn't arrived yet  )

The fun of watching my Neice and Nephew turn their carefully wrapped presents into confetti. And, because they are on holiday right now, I get to repeat the fun with my God-children in January (Christmas comes but twice a year :D )

And that's basically it.

Apparently a very interesting book. I haven't read it yet but a few friends have and they reckon he was wide of the mark on somethings, but definitely had some point that needed further investigation.

I can't explain the significance of the cigar box yet.

Quatre Bras is another awesome painting. I would proudly hang that in my den, if I had a den.

After some searching on the net I found a nice page about The Thin Red Line (for any Americans that thnk it's something to do with Korea  ), including a reproduction of the painting.

If your going to make something to persuade people that wars a bad thing, then at least keep them awake so they can get the message.

True, it was a wasted opportunity to show just how badly things were managed over there towards the end. Mind you, it could have been worse, it could have been Pearl Harbour.

Well, I think I gave more than I received but thats ok. My wife (gods bless her) went around the house and collected my medals, salad bar, a few rank insignia's, and some pictures of me and my platoon, and the Commadant. Then she went out and had them assembled into a display case. And a lovely one at that. It gave me warm feelings :D .

Besides that, I got a sweet sweater, an indoor grill, some sort of garden pottery kit (was for me and the wife which means that it was mostly for my wife). And some cool camping gear for the spring.
They say, "the tree of liberty must be watered with the blood of tyrants and patriots." I suppose it never occurred to them that they are the tyrants, not the patriots. There's an art store in town that does that with things you bring them. Those displays look really kick ass when thier done.
