Ein, is your gun a left-handed gun? Because that's how it seems to me.

Also, I must admit to also being inspired more than once by driftwood.

It's ambidextrous; the controls are repeated on the other side.

Yeah, driftwood's pretty nice. There's lots of other crap to get inspired by too...

I hope you don't feel like I'm hijacking the thread, but here's some sketches!
The other sketches are great work, and give some insight as to the artists frame of mind at the time. I'm inspired by you all! Anyway...

No! I am specialized, I see no reason why I should even expend the effort in trying anything non-mechanical.

"Havokeff, draw something that isn't a buff dude sketch!"

"Rye, draw something that isn't sexy or occult!"

"Pick, stop drawing your goddamn fruity elves!"

... we're all hobby artists with specialties. It all comes down to what we think is fun and rewarding. It's not like you're paying TheMuffinKing or anything. He's free to draw what he likes, and seems he likes mecha .

And on that note, joining in with the "warring sketches" theme; following on from the previous posts of mine, TMK and Havokjeff, some pictures i dun:

Little did the Juggernaut, who secretly wants to be sexy and occult, know, that he was walking into a trap led by the buff dude, Batman, who has called in the equally buff dude reinforcement, Superman, and the mechanized infantry commando unit consiting of the TMKmrkII and the HKFUB138 and led by the evily masterminded Goddam Fruity Elf!!! :D

First real try at this, tested my scanner with an inked pencil sketch, which I then colored and shaded in photoshop. Please critique, my drawing ability leaves much to be desired, also I am terrible at drawing faces and feet.

Official critique: You seem to have a grasp of where things goes or where they "line up" for the most part. Almost like you understand the skeleton but not the overlaying muscle. When I first started drawing I looked at real people and figured out some very loose rules for myself.

For faces; Eyebrows line up with the top of the ear.
The bottom of the ear lines up with the bottom of the nose
The mouth should end on both sides at the middle of the eyeball
The space between the eyes should be the same as the width of the chin
The mouth should line up at the corner of the jaw

These are all loose rules as no one's face lines up quite this way but I think its a good starting point
Image

You draw nice breasts

Try not to leave things out if you should be able to see them, i.e. the right foot. The way you placed the knee in a slight bend would dictate that the right foot would be sticking out further than the left foot. It looks awkward.
Another note on your foot, it looks like you had the right idea on the front of the ankle but then you rounded it in. Keeping that line straight would have been fine.

The ear should be back a little further. The back of the head should be rounded out a little more and elbows and butts only stick out one way

Overall grade: B. Good first try. You have something to build off definitely. Practice, practice, practice. I've always believed that drawing is just a skill that you can get better at.

Take 2, this time I went with a front on view, instead of the profile view, thanks for the advice on drawing faces, it really helped me out. As always, feedback welcome.

You might be better off looking at a picture of someone and then drawing from that to get a sense of scale and positioning. Look at where your hands are when they're by your side; the knuckles should be about halfway down the thigh with the fingers stopping an inch or so before the knee. Shoulders are further back than the chest, they don't purely come out sideways.

Pants and other clothing should follow the contours of a body, think of it in 3d, not a flat image. Also, you should draw the individual limb members seperately, the curves between the different parts you can add after, and that's mostly a case of practise. Nose bridges tend to be straight (unless someone's been in a fight), and with the nose in general, you don't have to draw that much, it's more defined by implication when it's straight on, rather than harsh lines.

With eyes, try to line them up as best you can, and don't think of them as flat objects. Think of them as wet spheres with skin flaps stretched around where the eyelids are. Start with a circle, then make lines where the eyelids go, then erase most of the circle, leaving the bits at the sides. Make sure they're both looking at the same object, and since they're round and wet, make sure to put highlights in like you would on a glass ball.
