B-Movie Monsters

Post by Gil Hamilton »

OK, we all enjoy a good B-Movie, right? Right? They entertain us with their low budgetness, they utterly fail to terrify us, they make us have a great time MST3king them... gotta love them. They are the movie embodiment of those old pulp fiction sci-fi magazines. Of course, B-Movies wouldn't amount to much without a good B-Movie Monster. B-Monsters are great.
So, what's your favorite B-Monster?

Personally, my favorite B-Monster is from the classic B-Movie "The Giant Claw". It is (are you ready for this) a GIGANTIC ANTI-MATTER SPACE BUZZARD. It was great, it attacks Earth from it's anti-matter galaxy millions and millions of miles away. It perched on buildings (despite the notable handicap of being anti-matter). It's slow moving head could catch fast moving aircraft. It could project an anti-matter shield when threatened.
Plus, the movie had the classic B-Character, the Jack-Of-All-Trades Hero. Jeff Morrows (he played Exeter in This Island Earth) character of course could flying jets, was a master of physics and electronics, and appearantly, a sniper as well. Excellent.

Godzilla is the Shizit

For those of you who are knee-jerking and calling Godzilla and Gamera B-movies,

Have you even watched The first Godzilla movie sans raymond burr and the Gamera trilogy?

Those are not B movies in any sense of the word

I've seen the first one of the Gamera Trilogy and the orginal Godzilla.

Very good films.

I don't look down on them, in fact I enjoy them more than many "A-grade" films.

Kaiju movies are a lot of fun, which is more than you can say for some films.

This is more B TV than Movie, but any demon name in 'Charmed', I don't know why it's just that Buffy names sound more convincing...go figure!

Well, there was a B-Movie based off "The Dunwich Horror" but it was terrible.

Ok, Evil Dead through Army of Darkness admittably contains several Mythos refrences, but nothing Big shows up.

Unspeakable: Has Julie Strain as a demon searving mr. H.

Reanimator: Was taken from a Lovecraft novel.

there have been more I need to look them up

most have been as bad as the Poe adaptations, since movies often fail to convey any of the viscaral nature of any "Wordy" writer....

"HP Lovecraft's 'From Beyond'" was supposedly based on the short story by HP Lovecraft entitled "From Beyond."
