The only thing I don't like - possibly because I can't figure out how it works - is that 1.5 allowed me to type anywhere on screen and it would do a search of the page to go to the word I wanted. The new one does this...but lacks the 'find next' buttons of 1.5, meaning I can only jump to the first instance of a word on the page.
Note: I'm semi-retired from the board, so if you need something, please be patient.

You can use F3 to search for the next occurrence of a word (this works in most Windows programs). Should be faster than having to use the mouse anyway.

My only real problem is I can't get the shortcuts for the control buttons, quote, bold, URL etc. to work. I have to click on the buttons themselves.

Tried the ui.key.chromeAccess change and it hasn't worked. Any ideas?

Ok, did anyone else find that all of their old bookmarks have vanished. Also, the tab feature isn't working (the page doesn't load) and I can't even created new bookmarks.

Any suggestions on how to fix it?

Go to C:\Documents and Settings\[User Name]\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\ and you should be able to find your bookmarks as a .html file and your cookies as a .txt one. Back them up, open firefox with the -profilemanager command line parameter, make a new profile and import your old data.

Seeing as I seem to be a bit computer illiterate right now, how do I go about opening firefox with that command line?

And just to make doublely sure I don't screw things up further, how do I make a new profile and all that?

Create a new shortcut to Firefox.exe, and in the "target" box add -profilemanager (so you get "c:\[path to FF]\Firefox.exe" -profilemanager)

Apply and open the shortcut.

Making a new profile - just hit the "make a new profile" button.

Ok, I can not for the life of me find any "make a new profile" button. Exactlly what should I be seeing assuming I did everything else correctly?

A pop-up window with your current profile(s) and four or so buttons on the side to create or edit them.

I mostly like it so far, but every tab having its separate closing button annoys the fuck out of me. I got so used to having the one single closing button at the upper right corner, now I have to use ctrl-w combo if I close many tabs in quick succession because moving the mouse cursor takes too much time.

After about five tabs the close button just chills up in the corner. It doesn't really take that long to close two or three tabs by moving your mouse.

It's convenient to me, at least, because my mouse is twitchy and likes to double-click without my say-so. I got used to right-click closing tabs because if I used the close button I'd often get an unappreciated two-for-one.

They should have made it an option. It's seen as a 'feature', and I'm sure it's easier for novices to use (since the close button is on the tab itself), but I'd rather have the single fixed close button.

The addons page is down at the minute so I can't check, but I believe the one your looking for is Close Button.
Adds a Close Tab (or Window, or Browser) button to the toolbar. This is especially handy if you put your tab bar at the bottom but want a Close Tab button in the top right, where you'd find it in most well behaved Windows programs with child windows.

Once installed, just right click on the toolbar, select "Customize...", and drag the button wherever you like. The button's appearance is determined by the installed theme, and its behavior can be configured to close the current tab, window, or Firefox session.

....... well fuck. Thanks for trying to help.

Edit: Well now I feel REALLY dumb. I just did what my mom (the least computer proficient person in the house) suggested and uninstalled and reinstalled it. Now everything works fine.

Sometimes I hate it when things are that simple to fix

For everyone with tab problems, session saver problems, or reopening closed tab problems, it's Tab Mix Plus FTW.

Manual install right now though. And DON'T hack your old version. Firefox don't like that so much.

Feh, that page is up but the DL told me 'NO TO 2.0!' I GUESS I'll live. It's seriously annoying though. CTRL-W ftw.

Half of that post was underlined, it'll be annoying to see the spellchecker when I do testing posts. And on that note: spellchecker is mispelled? :wtf:

According to the built in spellchecker, it's actually spell checker. Or programmers (where did that come from? Oh wait, I think it's just fucked). Regardless of the spelling, I'm still loving it.

Another feature I found annoying is that tabs are no longer squeezed in on one window. Instead of previously easily managing 40+ tabs, I have to fucking scroll through if there are more than 20 or so. :x
