Matte versus Glossy LCD

So, which type of coating to you all prefer? I personally stick to matte because I can't stand the reflections and find it is less hard on the eyes, but I have to admit that glossy screens have better color and contrast.

Where do you stand on this issue, and on the increasing difficulty of getting matte screen options on newer notebooks in the first place?

Matte. Glossy screens don't add much when you're actually using it, though they look awesome in the showroom.

Depends. Sometimes matte is better since it smooths out the pixels a bit so I don't see the jaggies on the cheaper panels. On a good panel I like glossy more, gives the best clarity & sharpness. However I still say CRTs rule.

I have a glossy monitor on my desk, while my laptop has a matte screen. I think that's ideal -- I find that the glossy screen does give me better color contrast, brightness etc, and makes the image look much better. But reflection would be a problem if it was being used outdoors, so I'm glad that my computer has a glossy screen.

In any case, I think all (LCD) monitors and laptops sold, if they have glossy screens, should also have the option of having matte ones.

I find that porn looks pretty much the same on either type of monitor.

I have a matte flat pannel monitor, and I find it to be very nice.

Matte would limit glare on the screen and make smudges harder to spot, so I'd go for that. Assuming my CRT died, which isn't happening anytime soon.

Matte. What's the use of better colours and contrast if you can't make anything out due to the reflections?
