EU ships you like

Post by Jade Falcon »

I've just read the thread about the various Star Destroyers, especially those that pop up in the EU like Dark Empire and so in.

What non-Star Destroyer type ship in the EU do you like. Whether its by aesthetics or role. They might not be the most effective ship in their class, but they could be just something you like.

I'll start the list.

Strike Class Cruisers. The idea of a cheapish (by Imperial standards) ship seems sensible. Somehow the look of these ships seems pretty decent.

Skipray Blastboats. I'd like to have some more ships that were in the class between capship and fighter.

Carrack class Cruisers. Not exactly fancy, but functional.

Interdictor Class Cruisers. Okay, these look a bit like an ISD that's been left in the washing too long, but the idea behind a gravity well projector on a small cruiser hull seems sensible.

I'm not too sure about the Lancer class Frigate, the shape seems a bit...odd. :D

Corellian Gunship.

Best EU ship, IMO, is the YT 2000. If your more into capships, I'm still rather keen on the Dreadnaught.
They say, "the tree of liberty must be watered with the blood of tyrants and patriots." I suppose it never occurred to them that they are the tyrants, not the patriots. Those weapons are not being used to fight some kind of tyranny; they are bringing them to an event where people are getting together to talk. -Mike Wong

But as far as board culture in general, I do think that young male overaggression is a contributing factor to the general atmosphere of hostility. It's not SOS and the Mess throwing hand grenades all over the forum- Red

I know many consider the "Outrider" a rip off of the Falcon, but I like the YT-2400.

I've always been rather partial to the Dauntless cruiser of 'Rebellion' fame and the Dreadnaught heavy cruiser .

I'm sorry, I blame the American Media's emphasis on big powerful things, but:

Eclipse-class Star Dreadnaught, a fitting name for a ship large enough to block out the sun.

TIE Defender, Faster than an A-Wing and more cannons than an X-Wing and the same number of torpedo launchers.

Of course if it's close enough to you virtually EVERY ship is big enough to block out the sun. And the Eclipse is ugly like nobody's business to boot.

I'm fond of the Old Republic warship and starfighter designs used in the KOTOR games, actually. We don't know very much about them, but their compact, relatively functional structure seems quite fitting for the period, and we get to see the interior workings of some of the larger vessels.

I also like Interdictor cruisers on grounds of general concept. It's a shame that they are under and inconsistantly used.

I'm with Noble on the KOTOR ships. I really liked the Ebon hawk design, if not the name. Prince Shizor's ship is pretty cool.

World Devastator. Mobile factory ship, with self-defense, and the larger ones will literally eat a Star Destroyer. It repairs itself during combat, adapts itself based on the opponents it faces, and it can even self-replicate.

Very true, but I love that dark coloring.

That'd be your opinion, some people find things that cause fear and disgust in others beautiful, I happen to like it.

I'll add a heft 'Me Too' to this statement. The World Devastators are probably the most usefull thing in all of SW. Well, they can be when not eating a planet...

That Said I also have a hefty fondness for:
Victory-SD
Old Republic Dreadnaught
Carrick Attack Cruiser
and the
Marauder Corvette.

I like the Vengeance. The Eclipse, sorry, but it sucks. The stealth TIE (Phantom) was also pretty cool.

For a pirate fleet or something similar which has to use whatever is at hand on a relatively low budget.

The Vengance class. A beautiful knife of a ship - doesn't try to outdo the Excecutor but retains the aestetic, and makes its owner look dangerous, without giving the impression that they're trying to out-do Vader.

I like the Bulk cruisers for some reason. A medium strong support craft, but old and outdated unfortunately and phased out from Imperial and New Republic fleets through the years.

as I stated before on a similar thread, the Assault Gunboat, or Starwing. and Tie avenger, both are cool powerful designs that are not as wankish as the Tie Defender and missle boat.
