I take it you never read "I, Jedi," then? ;)

You mean when Corran Horn becomes Batman? No wank there ;)

There are occasions, Spanky, when my love for you must be uncovered for the world to see. This is not one, of course, but you still rock.

*le sigh*

I take it you missed all the sections in I,Jedi, where Luke effortless owns half a dozen jenasaari at the same time, whereas Corran quite frequently gets his ass kicked throughout that book?

I am offended by the comparison but must nevertheless admit I can't come up with anything to show it inapplicable. 'I, Jedi' actually made the Rogue Squadron books look good. I swear there's no SW character (barring the Solo brats and they seem to have mostly taken themselves out of the picture all by their lonesome anyway) I want to kill more than Corran Horn (and that INCLUDES Kyp Durron).
'Next time I let Superman take charge, just hit me. Real hard.'
'You're a princess from a society of immortal warriors. I'm a rich kid with issues. Lots of issues.'
'No. No dating for the Batman. It might cut into your brooding time.'
'Tactically we have multiple objectives. So we need to split into teams.'-'Dibs on the Amazon!'
'Hey, we both have a Martian's phone number on our speed dial. I think I deserve the benefit of the doubt.'
'You know, for a guy with like 50 different kinds of vision, you sure are blind.'

No, I just compared that single fucking section (regarding Luke facing the Jensaarai) to the multiple situations where Corran's faboulousness is inflated to Dyson sphere size. Whether he's chuckling at the stupidity of the other Jedi before offering the solution (an imbicilic retcon, as any fool should know), kicking Luke's ass in battle, instantly recognizing the bad guys, or killing Exar Kun... I could go fucking on. But I won't. Either you haven't read the book properly, in which case debate is of questionable use, or you share Stackpole's man-crush on his pint sized avatar, in which case it truly is futile.

It's been awhile since I read that one, but from what I remember the book pretty much has Horn act like a dope and then realize he's being stupid throughout the book. It's not great writing by any stretch, but the only times he one-ups Luke are during a duel (whereupon IIRC he reckons Luke was distracted and holding back) and when he bitches to him about his job running the academy, only to realized later in the book that Luke was pretty much correct.

Plus, the book's from Horn's POV. Of course he's going to think himself the best thing ever.

Corran's incredibly Arrogant. Some thing outline in almost all his X-Wing books. THis books from Corran's PoV of course its gonna make him look good. it doesn't necessarily mean he is good.
Whether he's chuckling at the stupidity of the other Jedi before offering the solution (an imbicilic retcon, as any fool should know),
What in destroying Kun? He doesn't tell them what to other than "use the force guys" and then goes off alone to get his ass kicked and his daddy issues highlighted after missing an very basic fact about Kun's powers.
kicking Luke's ass in battle,
In a practise fight, not battle. Thats very diferent. Plus Luke's clearly not trying in said scene. Because they're training, Kicking Corran's ass in two seconds flat would not help him learn anything.
instantly recognizing the bad guys,
What? Gantoris and Kyp? Mainly he's just jealuse because they can actually use the force quite well unlike him. Plus from what I remember of Jedi Search it was blinding obvious that Gantoris was going to go Dark from the second he was introduced.
or killing Exar Kun...
When did this happen? Kun threw his ass aaround with TK then mind fucked him untill he was a wreck and Jade turned up to bail him out. Kun then flys off and is destroyed by the Jedi students. All Horn does is blow up a perfectly innocent statue. With an X-Wing. Oh How very wank of him.

Of course he's arrogant. But that's not why he's so loathsome. It's the same reason why sane people hate Janeway -- because they are both arrogant twits who by rights should be swiftly killed, but are saved because the plot bends to accomodate them.
What in destroying Kun? He doesn't tell them what to other than "use the force guys" and then goes off alone to get his ass kicked and his daddy issues highlighted after missing an very basic fact about Kun's powers.
We were clearly reading two different books. In the one I read, I clearly read him instructing and coming up with the final plan for beating Kun, and the others, recognizing the preeminence of all that is Corran, went along with the plan when they should have rammed a spear up his ass. Of course, you might have had a different reading experience. Perhaps you would find it easier to read in its entirety if you wiped away most of the semen from the pages.
In a practise fight, not battle. Thats very diferent. Plus Luke's clearly not trying in said scene. Because they're training, Kicking Corran's ass in two seconds flat would not help him learn anything.
Except there's no reason for that scene being there at all but for showing Corran as being god, it's ludicrous from a fencing POV, and finally, most damning of all, it's never stated that Luke isn't trying.
What? Gantoris and Kyp? Mainly he's just jealuse because they can actually use the force quite well unlike him. Plus from what I remember of Jedi Search it was blinding obvious that Gantoris was going to go Dark from the second he was introduced.
Of course. Except nobody else picked up on it as fast as Corran did. In fact, despite your nebulous and totally unprovable statements on Corran's motivations, the fact is, he's quickly made into Kyp's and Gantoris' principal foil. You honestly don't see how incredibly arrogant it is of a writer to do this sort of retcon, even when the source material is as ineptly written as KJA's?
All Horn does is blow up a perfectly innocent statue. With an X-Wing. Oh How very wank of him.
Except it's obviously referenced to as being a plan for evicting Kun. Try again.

Eleas, I could probably go through your post and reply to all the points you made but I won't. Partly because I haven't read I, Jedi for about five years but mainly because I agree with the majority of what you're saying. Corran is and overly wanked mary sue character for Stackpole. He does have a ridiculous amount of talents and skills. THe specific point I was trying to dispute was the implication that I, Jedi makes Horn out to be a better Jedi that Luke, himself. Which is a point I do not agree with.

Still there is one point in your elegant rebuttal that amuses me enough to comment on:

You're implying I'm wanking to Horn by saying I,Jedi doesn't make him look all that good?

...and I agree. He doesn't. And candor compels me to admit that I no longer have the book in possession, myself.

I... YES! *cough* That's exactly what I'm saying. Cause it makes sense, dammit.

Okay, I was out of line. I just... detest athors like Stackpole -- not just him, mind -- because they come across as so very disrespectful of the main story. To wank a character is one thing. To insert the crowbar, then pry a place for another main character into a story where he doesn't fit... it irks me mightily. I think it's detestable that an author so insinuates himself into a story he hasn't created himself.

Remember KJA's story where IG-88 uploads himself into the DS2? Same thing.
