First range of Wii virtual console games announced
Wii!
For those too lazy to follow links:
NES
Mario Bros.
The Legend of Zelda
Donkey Kong
Donkey Kong Jr.
Ice Hockey
Pinball
Soccer
Tennis
Urban Champion
Wario's Woods
Baseball
Solomon's Key
SNES
F-Zero
SimCity
Nintendo 64
Super Mario 64
Sega Genesis
Sonic the Hedgehog
Altered Beast
Golden Axe
Columns
Ecco the Dolphin
Gunstar Heroes
Space Harrier II
Toe Jam & Earl
Ristar
Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine
TurboGrafx-16
Bonk's Adventure
Super Star Soldier
Victory Run
Bomberman '93
Dungeon Explorer
The system uses a points-buy system like Xbox Live Marketplace. Current expectation is for points to come for about a hundred to the dollar, NES games to cost 500, Turbografix 600, SNES/Megadrive 800, and N64 games 1000.
I'll personally be grabbing F-Zero, Mario 64, Golden Axe, and probably Ecco to start with.
Like XBLA, new content will be added periodically, so that there will be fresh releases to play with and interest stays high.

Why would they dump their entire back catalogue into the VC on launch day? This way, people will keep coming back every months for new releasesThat list can't be complete; there's got to be more SNES and N64 than three games. I even played Super Mario World at E3, they've had it running for half a year now...

Ooh, Gunstar Heroes. Probably get that, Ecco, Super Mario 64, and Super Star Soldier.

I don't know much about Wii [that's the first time I have ever typed that name - cute] and I have only heard a few things about it. I just want to know how one could play a game such as Super Mario with that motion sensor 'thing' - is there a standard controller one can use to play these games?
Looking forward to plaything Mario Kart sometime in the future!

NES games can be played by tilting the Wiimote on it's side (it's got a D-pad and two action buttons). There's also as Classic controller shell and you can plug in GC controllers, too.I just want to know how one could play a game such as Super Mario with that motion sensor 'thing' - is there a standard controller one can use to play these games?

There are three controller components for the Wii: the remote, the nun-chuck addon for the remote, and the virtual console controller. The VC controller is essentially a wireless SNES controller with two control sticks and IIRC an extra shoulder button. Also, the remote can be turned sideways to simulate an NES controller.

OH FUCK. Gunstar Heroes is gonna whoop ass on the Wii, so long as it's two player--and if they can fucking figure out a way to make it four player or some psychotic shit like that, I'll bust a nut.
Doubtful, but since everyone's Genesis broke the hankering for a return to Gunstar Heroes has been intense.

Two corrections regarding the classic controller:
1. It's not a shell, but a completely seperate controller from the remote. It does seem to optionally attach to the remote by using two clips on the back of the controller and grooves on the sides of the remote, though.
2. It's not wireless like the remote; it plugs into the extention socket on the remote like the nunchuck for power and signal transmission to the console.

That explains a lot. In the first released images it looked like the CC was a mainly hollow shell and it looked really clumsy with the Wiimote sticking through it.It's not a shell, but a completely seperate controller from the remote. So you can just leave the Wiimote on the floor? Cool.
Of course, but I expected at least one Mario title per console- there's not even a Mario title for SNES.Bounty wrote:Why would they dump their entire back catalogue into the VC on launch day? Those were IGN's mockups of what they thought it would look like, not released images.Bounty wrote:That explains a lot. That was just a concept mock-up made by IGN way back when the idea of the CC shell was first announced.Bounty wrote:That explains a lot. The only thing close is a third-party steering wheel accessory. IIRC, the other Nintendo "shell" accessory, the shotgun, has been cancelled.Stark wrote:Yeah, I don't think those stupid shells actually exist.
NOBODY. KNOWS. YET.PS somebody fucking tell me if I can use GC controllers with VC dammit.
