Had no idea the PS2 had reached those levels. Not really that surprising though.

Other snippets I missed yesterday:
Wrong. Nintendo makes a profit on every console.
Nintendo makes a profit on the manufacturing costs of every console sold. Once again, they aren't profitable in of themselves. They would not be selling these devices for the margins they do if they didn't make it up in games and accessories.
Now, here the M$FT ticker's fabulous numbers. 5-year view shows us an overall change of -$1.94(-6.32%). This doesn't even beat the indexes(S&P500 +25.55%, Dow +28.73%). When you compare it to competitors who have been actually making products that people would use of their own volition, like Apple with it's +750% growth, it's even bleaker. If I had to apply an adjective here, it would be "moribund". M$ is not in a bad financial situation, Office and the M$ tax on OEMs rakes in the cash, but it doesn't really have prospects for growth.
Funny how you conveniently left out the stock split in 2003. :roll: And during a period when the other tech stocks (funny how you left out the five year numbers on the much more applicable NASDAQ) were in a meltdown.

Microsoft is in fine shape, and with a market cap of $280 billion plus $50 billion in cash, the minor fluctuations of Microsoft as a whole could hardly be an issue for Nintendo investors who could dump a favorable stock sale if they didn't believe in the future of the company without making much of a dent in the stock price.
No one is buying 360s except Australians, no one wants Pasta except dingbats. They have enough in reserves to go a loooong time without making a quality product though, so we'll all have to suffer a little longer.
:wtf:

The X360 is selling well enough in the US and Europe as is well within sales projections. I'm not sure if this is supposed to be a joke or not.
Even if that weren't true, the costs of the merger would be exorbitant. Ballmer is a control freak and would insist on plastering his own layer of management in Japan. What would the new merged subsidiary do, make 360 titles? I can't think of a way to destroy Nintendo more quickly.
Nintendo making titles for the 360 would give it instant credibility in Japan. Look what showing off just a single popular Japanese dev (not even a popular STUDIO) did for the X360 sales numbers in Japan. The Japanese may have reasons not to buy X360's, but they will easily change that opinion if it is where the games are.

2005:

Sales - COGS = Gross profit

=> 4,812,970,000-2,781,420,000=2,031,550,000

Gross profit - Overhead = Net profit

=> 2,031,550,000-971,196,000 = 1,060,354,000

The numbers say you lie.

Sorry, should I put the Apple split in too? M$FT is still moribund.

I really think this is why everyone's making fun of you. It's a horrible idea. M$ lost $4 billion on a console, even with the signature title and studio they bought. Shigsy making 360 games will make them less laughable a competitor (assuming he didn't quit outright), but that's all they'll be, a less laughable competitor.

Australians do like the 360. It's their fastest-selling console ever.

Are you talking about Itagaki? No one likes Itagaki. I went to Evo, so I can tell you that no one likes DOA. Ninja Gaiden is a good game though.

What 360 sales numbers in Japan? All we have is lengthy blogposts explaining why the Atari Jaguar only barely loses out to it.

Nintendo would risk its independence by selling out to Microsoft. The freedom to make weird, innovative games and hardware is very important, and with Nintendo doing so well financially it isn't worth it to brave that kind of danger.
Don't hate; appreciate!

RIP Eddie.

I think he's more likely talking Sakaguchi.

Blue Dragon managed to sell out the 360. It sold more consoles at launch than had been sold in the year to date, and still had people wanting more.

But that's not just Sakaguchi, it's Toriyama as well. It's basically the new Chrono Trigger.
