IGN wrote:September 6, 2006 - Guns don't shoot people -- guns shoot targets. Crave Entertainment, in partnership with Highway 1 Productions, announced today that the National Rifle Association has officially endorsed its first-person shooter, NRA Gun Club.

Available exclusively for the PlayStation 2, NRA Gun Club is a target shooter. With any of more than 150 realistic firearms gamers will practice their aim through a variety of realistically safe shooting range environments.

"In keeping with the NRA mission, this game tests marksmanship in a sporting environment and emphasizes responsible use of firearms. This is a fun and exciting game, challenging all ages and all levels of firearms proficiency" says Mike Marcellin, Managing Director of the National Rifle Association.

The title includes a certification mode with detailed descriptions and information about the firearms and shooting competitions. There is also a head-to-head competitive mode for up to eight players.

NRA Gun Club is scheduled to be released September 19 across North America

Didn't they release a game ages ago? I remember it getting worse than 30% on PC Gamer. The reviewer said he played flash banner ads more fun.

Varmint Hunter. I think X-Play called it the worst game of all time. :P

I only say worse than 30% because it's the number that gets below the "Don't Bother" range (aka the cream of the crap), and I think it was much lower than 15%, but I can't be bothered to look it up. :P

I cannot for the life of me imagine what possible use anyone would have for a computer target-shooting game. I've only fired a real gun a few times in my life, but I've fired it enough to know that nothing on a computer would make you better at aiming a real gun.

Exactly. The only guns I've tried firing are shotguns at shooting ranges in Montana. There's no way in hell you can prepair for the recoil of the real thing, no matter how many games or simulators you play.

There were army recruters at my college. They had this VR thing where you hold an M16 mockup, that's supposedly weighted, so it's exactly like the real think except it doesn't shoot, but instead acts like a light gun for a screen. I had trouble holding it steady, much less hitting the target.

It's probably to get people used to the idea of simply having a gun in their hands, like an addiction or something.

No, it got a 1 out of 5.

I think they did a special on the worst video games of all time. Varmint hunter was featured, right beside Superman 64, and Aquaman: Battle for Atlantis. I think it was the Golden Mullet awards.

Yea. Aquaman really set the standard.

But there were some worse. 0 out of 5. THey didn't get rated because they didn't really qualify as games.

Like the truck racing game where the other truck never left the starting line.

What was that game that was more like a movie than an actual game? It was an early CD ROM that had actual actors. The usual goverment conspiracy telling the soldiers they were going to another planet to kill aliens but they had to stay in fully sealed suits outside, so the only way they could see the "aliens" was a VR display. And it turned out they were really shooting other humans or some such stupidity.

The result of searching for "worst ever" on Gamespot, I present to you:

Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing (that would be the truck racing game I believe)

Watch the video review to get a real ROFL moment.

That's one of the 0 out of 5's, now that I saw that. Yea. Bad.

Zero would imply they actually managed to play the game to review it. PC Gamer had a game that was some Homeworld wannabe that wouldn't even fucking run when released on any of their systems. It simply got "N/A".

I do so love reading their worst reviews though. They make flaming a computer game an art.

I think they also gave a 0 out of 5 to "Barbie Horse Adventure" -- 0 out of 5 is reserved for things that aren't even really games.

Gods and Generals was an abysmally bad game, from all accounts. Let's just say it's a FPS where your weapons are a one shot musket which must be discarded after each use, a slowly reloading pistol, slowly thrown bowie knives and a sabre. You actually had to fork out an extra $5 if you wanted to get the 'multiplayer expansion pack'.

I remember X: Beyond the Frontier getting an N/A because the game was literally unfinished and unplayable at release.

I can't remember whether the famed Everquest expansion that wasn't actually in the box when you bought it got the same (you got a voucher to send off and they sent you the CD when it was finished, because they couldn't hit the street date on it).

The Point Blank series of arcade target shooting videogames are wildly popular.

basically, games like this are aimed at the low price mass market, and folks who don't realize they can play a better flash game for free. One can hope it at least might teach some range safety or something.

Point Blank is a LIGHTGUN GAME. It's also quite different to a 'gun range simulator': it's carnival style.
