Quote, please. It's good to know that you still haven't got the foggiest idea what motivates me. It's the same reason I went back to WoW - you guys were still playing and talking about it and I wasn't.
Kojiro wrote:I told you she was sus about the planets I gave you in my space, and if I had to choose between you I'd choose her.
Yes, that sounds like what I said, only you forgot the part about her taking them off me. Of course, with this irritating habit of throwing quasi-IC discussions at me verbally, there's no record to check.
Kojiro wrote:And why on earth would you be surprised the Vorlons are crafty? They were never exactly up front in the series, or are you just assuming the Shadows had the market on scheming?
I don't recall the Vorlons being anything but truthful. They represent Order, remember?
Kojiro wrote:Or perhaps I forgot that it's only scheming when I do it. You got fucked up last time because you took the 'out of game information' and used it 'in game', just like I suspected you would. Then you have the audacity to rail on me for 'lying to you' when it was clear you were using said information against me. Forgive me for not shooting myself in the fucking foot.
Excuse me for not exterminating you immediately because it was your first game of SEIV in your life. We can sum that whole argument up with "We were playing by different rules." I love how it's in character when you justify the deception but out of character when I act on it, though. :)
GuppyShark wrote:Isn't that exactly what happened in the show? As soon as the Shadow ships [ on Centauri Prime ] were blown up, the Vorlons moved on.
Kojiro wrote:NOTHING AT ALL
The Vorlons clearly possess the ability to detect Shadows from orbit. So lingering 'to make sure them Shadows is gone' is BS and an obvious grab for the League territories.

Kojiro wrote:Of course I'm aware of it. It's the only way to succeed in such an endeavor. No one has worried one iota about using the game mechanics to their advantage (24 move anyone, or ramming ships that can go further than weapons can fire?). The Shadows pretended to be the Vorlons friends and turnabout is apparently fair play.
I don't see the problem with using game mechanics. It's a game.

Let me put it another way. Everybody other than you and Brad are playing with a handicap. The only way other people can beat you, everything else being equal, is if they employ tricks, and the tricks don't always work. It's like playing chess and the other guy forfeits his queen. Now what if the guy with the extra queen complains. You tell me what he sounds like.

As for the 24 move baseships, those were fixed, and I have news for you, Tuxedo stumbled on them by accident. Also, we were dead wrong about the firepower of gravitic cutters. They blow compared to Vorlon weapons. I don't know why you bring them up at all.
That's unfortunately nothing more than a blunder of my part then. I thought it was League until the same time as the other planets, and simply went to you instead of Troggs. I'll remedy that when I get a chance.
Yolu Prime was part of the League, if only for a short time. I couldn't give a rats ass if you planted them there, and I couldn't care less if you invaded me. In fact I would be excited. If you cracked the planet that would be pretty cool. My characters of course care. Brad talked about this before, not investing too much into the characters. Or if you do invest a lot, separate your character's motivations from your own. Planet cracking is cool, I want to see it, so is an invasion.
Oh I'm sure they are. I'm sure the Brakiri will continue to fund the Shadows as their 'ace'. What am I supposed to do? Let them keep the League so they can hit us harder when they get around to it?
Attack.

I would attack Tuxedo, now, with a thousand Minbari ships and a hundred Vorlon planet killers. Attack Brad too. The only reason why there was so much pissing before over you killing off Brad was because there was some kind of misunderstanding of how you two were going to play the game OOC. I assume that doesn't exist anymore, so go for the throat, I do not see the problem.

But if you don't attack, that's okay too, because people can do what they want.
brianeyci wrote: That is not my responsibility. What you don't realize is that people are RPing consistent with their point of view.
I don't think that's what people are doing. I think they're using the RP as another tool of strategy. I'm all for the narrative idea, but RP propaganda is more effort than I can be bothered with.
Then ignore RP, and attack. RP was optional, there were no hard and fast rules about RP. Tuxedo had suggestions earlier about not using the narrative voice to deceive and so on, but if it's too much trouble who cares about it.
I'm aware of this I just wish we didn't have to 'abuse' the system to do something entirely reasonable. I'm sure SEV has a lot of advantages in this area.
SE:V is bugged to shit. If you do want to carry it over there's a lot more options, especially hardcoding diplomacy (tons of options like do not glass planet do not do this do not do that).

As for SE:IV jump gate combat it is not always certain. Whenever you fight on a warp point or a sector with a planet or anything else there is always a chance you could start out right beside the enemy. If I were you I would avoid jump gates entirely and try and engage in open space.
The annoying thing is that I'd rather not have glassed those planets. It's something I'm stuck with, but then so should the Brakiri be (who nuked a planet as well up north). I can fully appreciate someone being twitchy about such a fleet in orbit however.
brianeyci wrote: Yes you're stuck with it, but so is the CS with Marxis's former actions.
There's a huge difference between a new player not understanding controls and what you RP. Huge.
Then my question is, why bring it up now. I was totally agreeing with this point of view and was pretty pissed that game mechanics earlier were being used to paint the Minbari as homicidal. But you said nothing about it and even made up an IC excuse with the attack dogs. And it wasn't just one time, the Vorlons wiped out whole solar systems of Dilgar.

If you want to retcon everything, fine. I don't see why you'd want to. Do you think the Centauri are more likely to side with you, and the Corporates as well, if the Vorlons were not mass murderers? Maybe that's true, maybe that's not, but it's been going on in the game for so long now it's like going back a year.

You could've brought it up in the beginning when the first planet was accidently glassed. I remember mentioning how to turn it off, and the Vorlons kept on glassing Dilgar worlds, so I assumed you wanted it that way. And I didn't care that you did.
This is partially due to the confusion as to the status of the Ancients. At some points in the RP they're 'returned', at others they never left and there was no war. The Shadows however are not an unknown this time around. They have a presence on M6 even. Either way it's not even about it being the Shadows, it's about enemy territory simply declaring itself friendly. If the Brakiri made it to Vorlon, you think the fact it suddenly switched to navy blue would make them just turn around and go home?
Tuxedo could take over the navy blue planets. He could leave them alone. Who cares, he can do what he wants. Same with the Vorlons. Hurr, Trembas, Tulok, Nocalo, Kokkar were all Corporate territory. I gave them to Brad so he would have a fighting chance against you since the AI fucked up everything. Also because I knew he could do a good job keeping the League and Shadow agendas separate.

I don't see the problem, you can do whatever you want. Take those League planets if you want, or hover a zillion squids over them. Nobody is going to run and complain in the OOC thread.
As far as being outmaneuvered IC, that's the difference between, as I see it, the propaganda and the actual RP. As I've said, Lyta is neither a diplomat nor do the Vorlons keep her particularly well informed. I cannot be bothered to construct elaborate propaganda as RP. You aren't presenting the Corporate point of view, you're presenting the most useful point of view that can be justified.
You are starting to sound like Nova earlier in the Adamant game when he proposed a limitation on the number of allies. The invisible hand is wonderful. If you've got a lineup in a supermarket, and the lines are uneven, people being selfish will naturally pick the shortest line until all the lines have about the same amount of people. It's the same with a game. If you are worried that everybody is going to gang up on you, don't be, since everybody is a greedy bastard and will do what's in their best interests.
Sure they can. It's obviously Trogs fault he thought I was attacking you and certainly nothing to do with your method of writing.
Most of my writing has been dialogue. If you think that RP is too much hassle, big deal you can ignore it if you want. If you are saying RP will change things, you are wrong. I asked Trogdor whether he wanted to form a partnership and he didn't look at the RP he looked at his own interests and said no, the Vorlons are too powerful and will kick my ass. Invisible hand at work.
Man, the only reason Guppy is even back in the game is he thought he'd have a chance to get back at me. I don't mind Arthur going all out for me, that's kinda cool. I don't have a problem losing, but like any game, it should be fun whether you win or lose.
So what's the problem. If he wanted to get even with you big deal. Isn't getting even fun? It's a game isn't it.

I thought a bit and I am thinking, why is Kojiro saying all this, and maybe you really mean it when you say it's not fun anymore for you?

If it's not fun, you're under no obligation to stay. If it wasn't fun for me I'd quit. If you do no hard feelings and you could come back anytime. I don't want you to quit and I'm sure nobody does either, but if like you say it's not fun anymore for whatever reason you can quit, you don't have to try to justify it to us. Dalton quit, Gups quit for a bit and I've quit and had someone take over for a month.

FYI, everything that has happened in the past two months has been nudged by me. Nocalo, Trembas, Tulok, Quadrant 27 and Kokkar were all Corporate planets, all mine, defended by my three hundred heavy baseships which at the time were the largest in the galaxy. I asked Brad if he wanted to come back and I dangled the planets in front of him because I knew I was getting rid of Marxis and it was a good chance for a shakeup. Brad and Arthur were recently enemies until I acted as matchmaker. So you are wrong, Brad doesn't have some sort of vendetta and didn't join "only to get you back" (although I don't see any problem even if that was part of the reason).

Would you rather Brad not have come back. It would've been boring as hell. Likely I would've kept Marxis around, if only because the galaxy needed a bad guy, but I was sick of Marxis.

Just for the record, I was aware that nobody had fired a shot yet. Just from my point of view it sure looked like you were getting ready to.

I agree with Brian; this is a game, there's no need for drama and if anybody wants out, they're free to go.

Of course you were aware Trogdor, I lent you my pack mules and you saw everything. How are those particle cannons going, supressing your riots well :P.

Anyway don't quit now, the Brakiri are right there lol. Next turn will be a killer.

Thanks to all the changing around of the gate network in the area your "pack mules" haven't reached my planets yet. Don't worry, though, Reefa's been quite good at keeping everyone in line...so far at least. Damn scheming members of the Centaurum. :P

I can only fit one hundred satellites on a planet can you believe it.

I'm going to research and make the ultimate backpack... a jump gate with 99% cargo bay III! And take over the galaxy! Bwhahahahaha.

That would be one of the slowest takeovers ever, seeing as how you're not going to get more than one or two movement points on that "backpack."

Damn you had to be a buzzkill.

Anyway you're wrong. I get zero movement, because the modders overlooked QNP with the jumpgate since if I had one movement I could open a warp point :P.

Technically you could do it, since the jump gate vehicle size is really just a 5000kt vehicle that the modders require be filled with 99% storage space. So you can fill it with mostly cargo containers and have enough room left for a reactor, the agile ship component, and a few engines, enough for one movement point. You'd have a jumpgate that can't open a warp point and one movement point, but it'd have 123mt of storage. Like you said, the ultimate backpack, but pretty useless, especially as an offensive weapon.

Plants 100 mines lays 100 sats and if anybody tries to steal it, it blows up! OMFG!

You shouldn't have told me that Trogs. I'm going to set all 850 of my yards to build them and in oh 43 turns, 33 if I emergency build, the galaxy is mine.

After considerable thought and careful deliberation the Corporate Sector has decided to be lazy and not make any fighters or mines or satellites or weapons platforms or troops. To do so would take selecting all the shipyards over one planet, and since there is no way to filter the shipyards by location it would take hours. And then, it would take a minimum of three clicks per yard, to set the yards to repeat build.

In short, instead of 100 tanks, 500 planes, 600 artillery and so on I've decided to go with nine hundred and fifty clicks instead of five thousand and make another 850 ramming ships. Suck it galaxy.

I was thinking of gifting Trogdor 300 yards so he could start making planet killer but again, the amount of work was too daunting. Too bad.

Eventually when I get 2000 ramming ships I'll start selling them. They move 21 in combat, maximum 44 in strategic (although they can really only move 17) and do ~800x2 damage when they ram. I will take orders by the hundreds.

Kojiro when you retrofit your ships to a new design they take on the strategy of the new design, and unfortunately default to "Don't Get Hurt." I just noticed running a couple sims that some of your ships are set to "Don't Get Hurt." I think it was the Lancer E2, but all your E2 and retrofit designs are probably set to run into a corner if you didn't notice.

Looks like the Brakiri did it when they came out into the gate into Quadrant 27. Not positive, though.

Kojiro I thought about it a lot and how you don't want to be reponsible for the Vorlons prior actions because you were a new player to SE:IV. If you want to retcon, fine I don't really care, we can get rid of all the stupid wrangling in the RP about game mechanics and posting of game screenshots that I thought was stupid and I'm sure everybody else thought was stupid. I want to say though I don't like the idea of a retcon this far in, I actually think it a horrible idea, and I don't think it will change the balance of power in the galaxy at all.

But if you really think you glassed planets accidently, then fine. The only catch is, you glassed whole planets full of Dilgar and Narns. Right now Trogdor controls the Narns, and Tobor the Dilgar, so if they agree to a retcon and everybody agrees to a retcon, the Vorlon war crimes are wiped clean. I assume this would go the same for everybody else who has wiped out whole planets accidently and who want to retcon.

In my opinion, it won't change a thing. EA and CS will still be neutral, Trogdor will still be trying to survive, the Dilgar will still be troublemakers, the Shadows and Brakiri will move in lockstep and the Vorlons and Minbari will share their fates.

And I have good news, well I've had it for awhile. Dalton said he's willing to take over for any players who are missing, either temporarily or permanently. He said to give him time to settle down, but I'm sure in a month or a couple months he can play someone's turns if they get too busy or if they're getting tired of SE:IV.

I'm not tired. I didn't play this long to quit, I want to see it to the end .

I'm not looking for a retcon. I loathe retcons under almost any circumstance, I just with people would be a little more generous with their interpretations of game mechanics, especially regarding a new player. I also accidentally domed one of my homeworlds for forty odd turns but that's the price you pay for playing casual. I'm not complaining. I don't want it wiped clean, I'm prepared to accept some flak for it but there's a point where it's no longer RP motivated and it's exploiting the newbie opponent.

What makes playing the Vorlons hard is that it's extremely difficult to play their arrogant attitude without the corresponding firepower to back it up. Yes, Vorlons are good, clearly better than any of the younger races but they're not accurately good. The Vorlon attitude simply isn't supported by the game mechanics. Warp point combat is a *huge* part of that. I loathe not being able to make jump points into a system just as surely as I must defend a gate at point blank. I'm now in the awkward position of having to decide whether or not to chase Arthur's fleet and risk getting ambushed again as I follow them through the gate or simply move to the gate and let them flee.

How the hell did you dome one of your planets? Scrapped/moved population off it?

You can play the Vorlons how you want, they don't have to be arrogant. Again people can RP how they want and play how they want and that applies to you too, you don't have to be arrogant if you don't want to be. Anyway Arthur threw you a bone, read his latest RP. I talked to Trogdor about his ships earlier and I'll tell the same thing to you. Emissive armor's too expensive and you can save a lot of money using normal armor and just having one slab for the 10 shields to stop boarding ships. Either you can use a self-destruct or ten or so security station. Only heavy baseship and planet killer are really big enough for a lot of armor, "armor on armor" as Tux puts it, between 20-30k of it. Nephtys can help you a lot with the details if you ask her. Take a close look at the components you are using, and their cost to benefit ratio. For example heavy gravimetric reactor is better cost-wise than massive gravimetric reactor.

Anyway to follow or not to follow, that is the question.

If you want to have a chance you'll have to coordinate closely with Nephtys. Nephtys lost over two hundred ships last turn and that could've been prevented if you had a single scout on that warp point along with her. I can only assume you two aren't working as closely as I thought, or that Nephtys wanted to lose those ships on purpose to free up maintainence.

The Vorlons and Shadows are broken. In open space they are invincible, and in a warp point they are similarly powerful as long as their ships are designed properly.

As for exploiting the newbie opponent, I am not sure what you are referring to. Tuxedo found the 24 move baseships by accident, and if you recall he asked people for advice for what race to play and someone suggested Brakiri to him. Everybody else could build 24 move baseships except for the Ancients who had insurmountable other advantages. He did not look at the data files, he did not even play seriously until up to a hundred turns ago. He was fully expecting for you guys to kill him off so he could focus on Adamant and Star Trek but those died off. And of course, the 24 moves are history now that it's patched. The ramming ships, surprise surprise I had no idea how effective they were until I finally built them and simmed, they were supposed to be a gift to EA for covering my ass, why do you think I was spazing out so much in the RP about a Vorlon fleet being nearby (now I know I could kill your 100 ships if I wanted to). And of course, ramming ships are no threat to Tux's ships or even my older US ships, ships with a lot of armor. Ramming ships are also completely useless as an offensive weapon through gates.

If you have anything specific to say I would like to hear it, because I see no exploitation of the newbie here.

In fact, I'm going to let you in on a secret. Using game mechanics, Tuxedo could have killed all your one hundred ships next turn, no matter how you moved unless you stayed absolutely still. It was foolproof, I know because I made it up. Instead he's just letting his ships die, mostly to free up maintainence. He's not cutting you slack, but he could've destroyed everything of yours. This is before you mentioned anything, and he has a bone to pick with you and still he decides not to use a gamey trick. I see no exploitation here.

As for the jump gate combat, most races want to start out point blank in front of a jump gate to shoot anything that comes out of it, and your ships would as well if they had more armor. If you don't, the workaround's as simple as having one of Nephtys's 40 move scouts on every gate. It is not that big a deal.
