I saw a clip from 'shattered mirror' or whichever DS9 episode where the Defiant beats the shit out of a mirror universe Klingon Negh'var and that set me thinking. Why not do something similar to the last video but in reverse? Say, a Trek ship or two blasting at an ISD at close range and the ISD missing in return, then say 'dream on, Trektards' and then have a Wars fighter doing exactly the same to a large Trek Warship? I figure that's about the only thing that will stir up the hornet's nest more. I'm suddenly feeling evil tonight

I think the fuss over the teaser is rather odd considering that it's nowhere near as one-sided as current canon says a SWvsST fight would be. I mean, the short battle in part one could perhaps be explained with the ISD using point defence guns, otherwise we'd just be looking at a rapidly expanding ball of whitehot gas after one shot. More correct, perhaps, but hardly cinematic.
Nevermind the fact that half of part two was a joke, and a rather funny one in my opinion. Thin skin some people have... anyway, perhaps the joke part was a bit long if it was only supposed to be a joke. Quick jokes tend to have a better effect unless the longer joke builds up (and you can see something coming).

Not to be the bad guy here wayne, but I seem to remeber a couple years ago when a new SB.com movie came out and it didn't show the empire stomping ass you guys all jumped down on the creator much like those SB drones did.
I still think this project is an amusing venture and it has my support and viewership.

Laird maybe the key was that it was an SB.com creation. Poe has posted videos of fights between the Empire and Picard before, in PST, and he said they were "pretty cool" IIRC, and so did most of everybody else. Nobody has a kneejerk response, at least against people who don't deserve a kneejerk. The only whining I remember from that was someone saying that the Enterprise shouldn't have blown up the Executor but just a normal ISD and made it lame.
So calling Poe out to be unfair is kind of unfair, given he only mentioned how stupid they were when some of the comments brought up the vs debate instead of I don't know, talking about general things like plot and cinematography and modelling and voices and characterization and so on.

Did it have a story, or was it just a battle scene? If a movie has nothing to offer but a battle scene, then any reasonable person's tolerance for unrealistic aspects of the battle scene should decrease accordingly.Laird wrote:Not to be the bad guy here wayne, but I seem to remeber a couple years ago when a new SB.com movie came out and it didn't show the empire stomping ass you guys all jumped down on the creator much like those SB drones did.

In response to Mike and Brian, Off the top of my head I can't remeber what film it was. Just it was some real bitching about an ISD being shot up by a defiant class. All I'm saying is don't pay any attention to the people who say "You suck!" without atleast backing it up. The drones on SB claiming the video is "Wank" or whatever their argument is should be ignored. I think what wayne has done is a great little piece of machinia, I know what kind of hard work he puts into this and I also understand it's a comedy/semi-realistic vision of the vs debates.(If it were 100% real the video would have just been like the first half of part 2's trailer.)

Sounds like one of the "Death of Angels" flicks. Number 6 IIRC.Laird wrote:Off the top of my head I can't remeber what film it was. Just it was some real bitching about an ISD being shot up by a defiant class.
As for the whole story thing. I do believe there's a crucial difference between SB and SDN mentality there, given what Mike said. At SB, people want nothing but space battles (oddly enough), here there seems to be more of an emphasis on story.
Just my two cents.

Thanks. The problem I have is with SB idiot "meshers" These are people that think you must have a 50 million ploygon model that takes weeks to render and melts your computer tower in your movies for them to be "acceptable". There's a huge prejudice to machinima with these idiots.Laird wrote:Not to be the bad guy here wayne, but I seem to remeber a couple years ago when a new SB.com movie came out and it didn't show the empire stomping ass you guys all jumped down on the creator much like those SB drones did.

Also, there's reservations about me calling my VS flick "ultimate" since, in the paraphrased words of sb boardies, 'for it to be labeled ultimate, it needs a ton more ships, and no boring scenes of people talking'.
I called it "ultimate" for two reasons. One, I own a VS website called "The Ultimate Star Wars vs Star Trek Database", and two, a Youtube VS flick that is basically a clip show has thousands of views. I know I can do better than a fuckin' clip show.
More ultimate that sb.com fare? At the risk of sounding pompous, fuck yes. "The Last Bastion" actually has a story, and its not a Star Destroyer blowing Trek ships out of the sky, as some people might expect.
Matter of fact, I can tell you this: the only time you will see the Star Destroyer firing is a flashback to part 1 to explain why it fired. (Actually, Laird has read the script, so he knows how the story progresses!)

Its amazing that many of those people are Trekkies since Trek is, what? about 99% "boring scenes of people talking"?Lord Poe wrote:Also, there's reservations about me calling my VS flick "ultimate" since, in the paraphrased words of sb boardies, 'for it to be labeled ultimate, it needs a ton more ships, and no boring scenes of people talking'.

I'm still very far behind. I've "filmed" the scenes, and now I am editing the dialogue of 3 of the 4 Captains that will be in part 2. I'm still waiting on one more voice to come in, though. Until I have all of them, I can't do the lip sync.Mange wrote:Not to sound impatient, Wayne, but when will Part 2 be released?
THEN, I have to put the virtual sets in behind the actors, put the movie together a second time, THEN, I have to add sound fx and music!
Yeah, its still going to be a while yet! But part 2 will be longer than the three minute part 1.

Mange, remember that one of the main characters is a clone of the Rabid Stupid Asshole. Doing that character requires the surgical removal of Wayne's brain to be able to properly impersonate him.

Hehehe! Unfortunately, I may HAVE to do that voice myself; its the one I'm waiting for.Darth Servo wrote:Mange, remember that one of the main characters is a clone of the Rabid Stupid Asshole. If you know who Andiana is on Youtube, who does the Captain Jack impersonation, yeah...that the voice I picked for Captain Anderson!

Only one nitpick though...could you add a more epic soundback as background music. Maybe 'requiem for a dream' would be nice. It has a nice epic feeling to it.
By the way...would we finally get to see a huge fleet of startrek ships. Given the threat level of stardestroyer is much higher than the borg. The desperation and fading hope on starfleet captains could be shown, when they realise how outclass they are. More tension on the trek side could be nice.

Have you not been paying attention? A massive fleet of Federation ships on screen is not a goal of Wayne's film. In fact, he's already listed out exactly how many ships we can expect to see.ray245 wrote:By the way...would we finally get to see a huge fleet of startrek ships.

Please, do not insult Jack's cunning and intelligence by comparing him or anyone who impersonates him to that intellectually bankrupt moron.General Schatten wrote:Well if you were going for a voice actor who could play a character who's indefinitely blindly drunk despite being sober that launches into inane tirades of gibberish.... the a Captain Jack Sparrow inpersonator fits the bill!
Now, someone who could impersonate Harry or whatever the name of the dumb one from Third Rock was might be more in line. Not as much gibberish, but half the time he speaks he leaves people scratching their heads wondering what the heck he just said.

No, no... both Sparrow and Anderson seem logical and seem to have well-thought statements or sayings, it's not until you've been around either for a while that you realize ones perpetually drunk (Despite being Sober) and the other perpetually idiotic (Despite working at a University, which is supposed to be bastion of knowledge and learning).

There are plenty of stupid people at Universities. Just look at the custodial staff. You sure you've spelled that correctly? If you're refering to "deus ex machina" its from ancient Greek plays where some divine being who solves all the problems at the last minute. In modern usage it refers to any miraculous, improbably, last prayer solution that comes out of no where (ex: Q saving the Federation from an Imperial invasion)LeftWingExtremist wrote:Noob question: Can somone tell me what "machinima" means? Not sure what that has to do with the thread though.

In short its "movies" made using a video game engine, in long:LeftWingExtremist wrote:Noob question: Can somone tell me what "machinima" means? (That word has been bugging me for the past week this thread has been up) Thanks.
source wrote:Machinima (pronounced [mə.ˈʃiː.nə.mə] or [mə.ˈʃɪ.nə.mə]), a portmanteau of machine cinema or machine animation, is both a collection of associated production techniques and a film genre (film created by such production techniques). As a production technique, the term concerns the rendering of computer-generated imagery (CGI) using real-time, interactive (game) 3D engines, as opposed to high-end and complex 3D animation software used by professionals. Engines from first person shooter and role-playing simulation video games are typically used. Consequently, the rendering can be done in real-time using PCs (either using the computer of the creator or the viewer), rather than with complex 3D engines using huge render farms. As a film genre, the term refers to movies created by the techniques described above.
Usually, machinimas are produced using the tools (demo recording, camera angle, level editor, script editor, etc.) and resources (backgrounds, levels, characters, skins, etc.) available in a game.
