A slightly tricked up Leader & 3 Tao Crisis battlesuits jumping into close range and letting loss with those flamers absolutely slaughters stuff.
And as Necron's I hate attacking Chaos, thier Honor Guard is just fucking nasty.

Infiltrated CSM will not stand up to Flayed Ones. The smart Necron player will simply put a Scarab or two with their main Warrior mass, march the lot towards your CSMs, and deep strike some Flayed Ones into the middle of your CSMs. FOs will break CSM in no time thanks to their stupidly powerful drain morale aura if you leave them alone to shoot the Warriors, and if you shoot the FO the Warriors get close enough to absolutely WTFPWN your CSM.Matt Huang wrote: I haven't played as Chaos yet, so I'm not sure on the hard-cap for special weapon upgrades, but your forgetting infiltrating heavy bolters. If they're anything similar to Space Marine heavy bolters, they'll chew through Necrons just as easily, and with the added benefit of being extremely annoying.
Or Necron Lord chucks a Solar Pulse into the middle of your CSM mass, then you have to move...
Necrons, you just can't afford to let them get past T2, their endgame is just too unbelievably good. Hit them early, hit them hard. Waiting until you have infiltration for CSMs and HBs all around is tantamount to suicide, at least for 1v1 IMHO. You can get Berzerkers by 2:30 with another squad being built, CSM + Infiltrate + HB is at least double that time if not more IIRC.
I know there is a method, but all I see is the madness.
For the imp guard stronghold mission, wait for the cannon to fire then deep strike or jump units into the power plant area. I dropped a unit of devastators there then ran amok.

I love the Tau, and the 'crons are just plain nasty and fucked up. The Heavy Weapons team gives the IG much needed infantry kickassery.

I've taken to trailing my doom-swarm of Guardsmen with a trio of assassins and four psykers. It actually works better against vehicles than I suspected. Having loads of Veteran Kasrkin means Necrons aren't such a pain as well.

Just beat it with Chaos and it pretty much states that Eliphas launches a black crusade from Kronus that puts the Imperium in 'It's darkest hour.'. Man, if that is 40ks summer event, that is going to be sweet.

I doubt it. If that's what they were going to do, they would have rigged it so that he escaped alive regardless. That's what they did with Gorgutz; I think if they have anything planned for any given one of the faction leaders, it'll be him.Tasoth wrote:Just beat it with Chaos and it pretty much states that Eliphas launches a black crusade from Kronus that puts the Imperium in 'It's darkest hour.'. Two quick notes on the stronghold assaults. In the IG stronghold how do you control the Titan cannon? The game seems to imply that once you build the required generators you will get to control the cannon (thus blasting the hell out of the guardsmen charging down that trench) yet once I build the generatgors all I get is the big green check mark but can't find a way to fire the gun.
Also I have usually followed the various missions required of me to win (i.e. silence the guns, shut down the bloodpulse, investigate the Necron energy sources) but can't I just make a beeline for the overall target? For instance I found a backway into the Guard main base, there's also a back way into the Tau main base that bypasses some of the strongpoints. Can't I just make a beeline for those and hit the main base or must I complete all objectives to win. I don't feel like expending valiuable resources and troops into a near suicidal early strike if I have to do eveything else to win.

Hellstorm Cannon is controlled by clicking on the ThermoPlasma Generators, and then clicking the 'fire Cannon' button. Kinda simple really.
As for completing missions without secondary objectives, that is more than possible. They are only Secondary Objectives. I snipered the Tau Ethereal with an Assassin trio, and hadn't captured the Relic or destroyed the Kroot Base. But it is often a good idea to deal with those things so you don't discover a Knarloc in your base killin your doods.

Completed it with the Necrons first.
There just so tougth its not funny. The only time I felt threated was when I was overwhelmed by the sheer numbers of Eldar on some missions, I thought they were a dying race they must breed like bacteria.
Currently I'm trying again as the Tau, got wiped out by the Necrons in my first battle. They seem over balanced to me.

considering how many I killed in the second province I took as Space Marines that seems to be so, parked few squads (including Gray Knight) near a top of a ramp and nothing they threw at me got thru (and they threw away/at me alot of troops).Bedlam wrote:Completed it with the Necrons first.

Try setting snare traps on your forces and in your path of retreat. If the Necrons get stuck in them, you'll have a much easier time taking them down with firewarriors.Bedlam wrote:Currently I'm trying again as the Tau, got wiped out by the Necrons in my first battle. They seem over balanced to me.

As a poor Uker and being distracted by other things still to complete me first Campaign. Still so far as the Eldar have wiped out the Marines, taken the Space-port, and two other special sites, and am positioned to hit either the Guard or the Crons base next.
Still on the Marines, on normal difficulty, I have to say how stupid are they? On the mission to destroy their base... Multiple times the AI had them send a force into the middle of my main base, I lost count of the number of times they did this. The problem... I'm Eldar my base was stealthed, and the force never bothered to scan for me stealthed buildings. The Marines got massacred each and every time by the bases automated defences and I gained the Three to One kill Ratio Wargear.
I shouldn't get three to one kill ratios against Marines, it's just not right. It's also just not right that I find fighting guard harder at times, as they actually scan for my hidden buildings with their Heavy Weapon teams.

The Guard cheats and uses the long range scanner on any and all stealthed units even when by rights it should have no idea they're there. In fact, the presence of an infiltrated unit is the only thing that inspires the AI to use the scanner, presumably since it already knows exactly where all your stuff is anyway.

I wouldn't do it straight away, but yeah, if you go straight for their main base and take out the HQ, even if you don't do all the objectives, you win. I accidentally wiped out the Tau main base when I tried to work my way around the map and the second base I hit was the main one.Stravo wrote: Also I have usually followed the various missions required of me to win (i.e. silence the guns, shut down the bloodpulse, investigate the Necron energy sources) but can't I just make a beeline for the overall target? I love these guys, they're just so cybergoth. They want to kill all life, they are technodeath personified, and when I stomped Chaos (the first ones I went for), it was fucking cool to see them go "but...you have no souls!" The darkness shroud is awesome, too. I usually go with a combination of that, the resurrection orb and the phylactery. You can just teleport the necronlord in, then teleport the monolith in, and it's hidden by the sarkness shroud! A cloaked monolith and necronlord! Hahah, so you can just rip the shit out of everything, then, and teleport them behind any armies if they spot you. and teleport lots of your standing army to one side and get the others to march up from the original side. What a mess!

I'm playing as Chaos now and am pleasantly surprised at how well I'm doing. My question is about the Demon Prince Status. Even though I've only conquered one stronghold (IG) I'm only 3 more war trophies away from Demon Princehood. How much more powerful does your character become as a Demon Prince? I was thinking of shooting for demon prince status before assaulting some of the more difficult stronghold missions.

Having just finished the IG campaign, the only real dialogue comes on the stronghold assault. With each side telling the other to stand down at various points in the battle. They each have their orders and will follow them to the end. Theres no "traitor" talk, they seem to respect each other. What happens to the plot if you are playing one imperial side (Marines or Guard) and attack the others base? What comes up as the reason for you attacking them? Is there much shouting of "your a Trator!" "no you are!" etc?
The Guard have their orders, the Marines have theirs. Both respect each other and plea for the other to stand down as the fight goes on, but neither does.Bedlam wrote:What happens to the plot if you are playing one imperial side (Marines or Guard) and attack the others base? When attacking 14 or 15 strongholds I'd often just kinda put my Daemon Prince out front and let him soak up the attacking forces as they'd come in, then he'd be pretty much fully healed by the time the next wave came.Stravo wrote:I'm playing as Chaos now and am pleasantly surprised at how well I'm doing. The Greater Good has come to Kronus. The greenskin are the only stronghold remaining; all others have met the persuasive capabilities of superior firepower!
Observations:
--Eldar are piss-weak against Tau. The stronghold with all the Fire Prism spam was highly irritating, but with careful use of my Hammerheads (went through two pairs before the last one got through) I managed to eliminate all of them and the Avatar. Their warriors are shite though, especially against a tricked-out Commander and a few Crisis Suits...
-- The Titan cannon is awesome. Wish you could traverse it, though. It was highly irritating to lose Kais and a bunch of my Tau when they were in the trench the first time it shot, didn't realize that would happen. Frustrating.
-- I do wish the Eldar hadn't taken so much initative and eliminated the Space Marines, I was rather hankering to go up against them...

It's a strange world. Let's keep it that way.
I reload when that occurs, the comp eliminates a faction for you. Perhaps once I have played all the campaign through with each army I'll let it stand but for now I want to be the one who does it.Elheru Aran wrote:-- I do wish the Eldar hadn't taken so much initative and eliminated the Space Marines, I was rather hankering to go up against them...
