At the moment, my plan for laptop replacement is to wait until Vista comes preloaded on them, not just getting a Vista-capable one now and upgrading later, even with "free" upgrade programs (as pricing will surely differ). Is this a correct choice of action?
Also, anyone know if they'll be here by Christmastime? (As I would assume that copies would be released to OEMs before standalone copies are released in January, but I don't know if this means actual release of preloaded hardware.)
(I see that Ultimate isn't eligible. )
Wait for Vista?

Wait for Vista?

Unless there's programs you desperately need it for, I'd recommend waiting until at least Service Pack 1 is released, so the early adopters have a chance to find all the bugs.

Thank you Ace Pace, I assume that you mean pre-loaded laptops.
General Zod, does that mean "keep my laptop til then," or go ahead with an XP laptop and use the Vista upgrade program (which'd mean that SP1 would have to be out by March 15)?

It means don't upgrade unless you need to, basically. With new operating systems especially, considering that Microsoft's new releases typically have all sorts of hidden bugs until the first service pack at least.Edward Yee wrote:Thank you Ace Pace, I assume that you mean pre-loaded laptops.

I truthbetold hope as much (re: SP1 and the install disc), as I'm now leaning towards waiting on the software. (Maybe hardware?)
