Gears of War gets a 10/10

Post by Count Dooku »

1up.com gave Gears of War a 10/10 rating this morning. I keep up with their blogs, and I really thought they were going to be critical when reviewing the game. http://www.1up.com/do/reviewPage?cId=3154958

IGN gave Gears a 9.4/10, which isn't too shabby either: http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/744/744356p1.html

I think I'm going to go get myself a copy of this game. Anyone want to join me in on-line coop?

ARRGH! GRAMMAR SMASH!

It's "gets", not "get's"...

To be on-topic, I'm considering getting the console just for this game. You can't go wrong with chainsaw bayonets.

This game is definitely on my "watch list." I am still trying to decide between the 3 systems. I really want a Wii, but it's just because the controllers are so interesting.

This, along with Halo 3, is one of the reasons I'm strongly leading towards the 360. (The pricepoint on the PS3 is another major factor)

Thanks for the links, but there was no need to break them - you only break links if we don't want the other side knowing we have linked to them.

I'm holding out for Microsoft's greed; good Xbox games like Halo often eventually or simultaneously make their way to the PC, where they will be prettier and easier to control.

Also, I unbroke the links. Game reviews aren't critical.

Don't forget the new Rainbow Six game - it looks fan-freaking-tastic.

I don't know. Whereas, I've never played it, I heared some horrible things about the Halo PC port. The graphics were much better, but the game took too much hardware to run for what it offered. Basically, it was a pain to get it to run smooth.

But, Gears of War is Epic Games, so it should have a better track record.

I only played Halo on the PC, so I can't compare, but I do know that I can't play FPS games on a console. I just don't have the dexterity for it. Add to that the fact that I can always afford a good computer and it's not a huge problem, really.

Halo got 10/10 back in the day too. :D

PS, 1up impressed me with the shockingly low quality of their journalism in their FIRST PARAGRAPH, so they aren't even as impressive as 'EDGE selling out' back in the 90s. :) 'Oh it's got flaws but we'll give it a perfect score anyway'. LOL!

EDIT - Le sigh, the only other game to use Vietcong's cover system is a 360 game. Hardly seems fair.

One thing I never bet on is Microsoft failing to probe a market. It may never come to PC, but that would be surprising as all hell.

Gamespots review is a more realistic 9.6, from what I've seen of the video review, looks like it deserves it, with the only problems being..no real story and a weird difficulty curve.

Only because MS hasn't sent them a check. Yet...

Honestly, I expect GoW (and Mass Effect) to follow the Halo model, where it comes out of the PC a while later. Although hopefully PC users won't have to wait much more than a year to year and half.

Did anyone else think their TV spot for GoW sucked? "Mad World?" What? That doesn't belong there. I want hard fucking core rock-your-face-off metal in a commercial like that.

You mean the nice and peaceful run that ends with him shooting up a monster in a building? I rather liked it.

Nice and peaceful? Sorry, there's nothing peaceful about fucking space marines. When they're running around with nothing to do, heavy metal follows them around regardless. :P

I personally liked it....made it more sad and gave me the feeling of hopelessness...

However, the "FPS Hide n Seek" type games like this aren't really all that fun for me. Pretty....but I get bored with them.

Halo was a horrible resource hog, they like, counteroptimized it for the PC, probably because it was trying to use directx 9, but IIRC you could force it to use dx8 and it worked much much faster while looking the same.

Proper space marines would get gothic chants. At all times.

The point of the GoW ad is "you're fucked, no really". Metal doesn't work, metal is power music, for in charge people.

Well, I like the trailer. Nice "cognitive dissonance" effect.

Also, about the Halo PC situation. Well, it's not the smoothest run in the track, but I've got a Radeon X1300 (budget card) and it runs at about 30-45 F/s. It's okay, I guess.

Eh GoW is all right. I don't like the camera or the controls, yet another console proving the superiority of the PC for FPS games. The game looks nice, but I would prefer: 1. Cheat codes. I WANT ENTERTAINMENT not aggravation. 2. No more of this stupid checkpoint save crap. I want to save as I choose. Very freaking annoying.

Hey, that raises a point - I was GOING to say 'lol teh fps are 34sy fag' but PC fpses are easy. CONSOLE fpses can be crazy nuts hard, like those stupid James Bond fpses. Stuff like FEAR is a walk in the park on 'super hard', but console games seem to be harder. WIERD.
