In Swizerland the public insurance companies payed for homoeopathy crap untill 2005.Admiral Valdemar wrote: Really, when something is proven to have benefits, it becomes medicine, not alternative medicine/therapy. Marijuana is used by medical staff around the globe because THC is well known to numb pain and suffering: but you'll be damned before you come across homoeopathy clinics in publicly funded hospitals.
When do you start considering alternative therapy?

It´s easier to get the dose right. If you smoke it it hits quite instantly whereas eating it takes about 30 minutes until it hits. If you smoke it you can stop after 3 or 4 drags or whenever you´ve got enought. Eating it means that the stuff in a certain dose is inside you and you won´t get it out. I had some bad experiences with a cake.PainRack wrote:Pardon me for asking, but is smoking the herb really much more effective than just taking the pill? As far as I know Canada doesn't have THC in pill form, but we can get a medical marijuana license if we fit the requirements and fill out the paperwork. This lets us legally grow, buy & use weed to treat the symptoms of the medical condition.PainRack wrote:Pardon me for asking, but is smoking the herb really much more effective than just taking the pill? Say, do you want it to be a threesome with your wife? Or a foursome with your wife and sister-in-law? I'm up for either.

I'm not going to get into the semantic whoring game, and I don't see any line between alternative medicine and medicine, only a gray area. Maybe I was not using the strict definition, and that's fine, but generally physiotherapy can help with pain in one way or another and I listed it. If you really want to get it, apparently physiotherapy isn't covered by our government health insurance anymore, or is only partially covered. I also consider going to anybody who isn't an MD or referred by an MD to be alternative. Any time you walk out and want to deal with your health in a holistic way instead of ten minutes listing symptoms to your general practitioner or fifteen minutes of him looking over your body with a physical once every three years, it's alternative to me.PainRack wrote:I'm trying to understand why you claim physiotherapy is alternate medicine in this case.
Lower back pain, whiplash, muscle pain, all these are areas of specialties that fall under physiotherapy and its...... normal.
Obviously there's going to be differences in various countries, but aren't physiotherapists considered care providers in the US? Your statement suggest that they aren't, whereas the wiki states that they can be considered to be primary care providers.
I'm in Canada.
You can blame Dalton McGuinty for that one, he cancelled physiotherapy & eye exam coverage then rapes us with a $300-9000 health service surcharge based on income. Physio is only covered if you end up in a hospital overnight, or you're a youth or senior. So if I break my leg they'll cover the physio for that, but if I throw my back out at work but don't end up in the hospital, it ain't covered. I can't believe people voted for that dipshit, I can't wait to vote him out in the next election.brianeyci wrote:If you really want to get it, apparently physiotherapy isn't covered by our government health insurance anymore, or is only partially covered.

Yes, physiotherapists are a recognized specialty in the US, as are physiatrists.PainRack wrote:Obviously there's going to be differences in various countries, but aren't physiotherapists considered care providers in the US? But if I recall, our friend Brian lives in Canada.

I listed exercise as alternative therapy.
As mentioned already in this thread, there's two ways of looking at alternative therapy. One is that alternative is quacks, not alternative are not. I am assuming that nobody wants to go to a quack, so the other one comes in and that is taking control of your own health. You can buy TENS machines, do exercises prescribed by the physiotherapist or use hot or cold pads. I guess when I think of alternative I think of anything that doesn't involve an MD. GP's are good for acute problems, but how often do you hear the story "I feel like shit I go to the doctor get a few blood tests and urine samples and nothing's wrong but I still feel like shit what gives." In comes alternative medicine.

I vote NDP on almost everything, because I'm a selfish prick and I want them to lower tuition and taxes for the poor and build affordable housing. So I guess you hate me more more than if I voted Liberal considering your hatred of Bob Rae .aerius wrote:I can't believe people voted for that dipshit, I can't wait to vote him out in the next election.
