SW:Starship Battles and the 5-mile Executor
I was following links just now, and checked out the SW Starship Battles miniatures game. It was all looking interesting (even sensible, thousand-gun armaments for capital ships - until I saw the Executor miniature.
It's pretty lame their research apparently amounted to 'reading the RPG books', instead of watching the damn movie. The length/beam ratio isn't even right. Who do they hire for shit like this?

Considering the're and RPG company building on older RPG stuff, it's not THAT surprising.
Also, do you know how BIG a 19km Executor Miniature would be? Probably bigger then my Colossal Red Dragon Mini! And that cost like $70!. There would be no WAy you could make that a random mini!
That aside, wasn't this before all the size issues were firmly locked down by Lucas Arts?
Hopefully, when they release the Star Wars Saga Edition of the RPG, they'll have fixed all that.
In the meantime, if you get the game, use the Executor Mini as some other Star Destroyer variant. For Executor, get some bristal board, a ruler and pencil and make a 'mini' or silhoute.
Lazy modern gamers. Back in my day we used cardboard standups while play Spelljammer or other space fighting tactical games, and that's the way we liked it!

Actually, they did do research, it's just not to scale.

Look at the Executor's stats: "Size: 19,000 meters"

So the miniatures aren't intended to accurately represent the ships' size in relation to each other... which doesn't change what I said, I was referring to the miniatures, not the in-game statistics.Adrian Laguna wrote:Actually, they did do research, it's just not to scale.

It's a strange world. Let's keep it that way.
No no no. LOOK at the miniature. OF COURSE the damn pieces aren't relative scale: no shit. It's the damn 5-mile, two-engine bank, command tower-behind-the-wing design. It's the stupid design from the Imperial Sourcebook, the horribly broken totally inaccurate one.
I know fans of the EU and RPG are used to this sort of thing, but I expect quality and accuracy. This is neither.

It looks fine to me, for what it is. *shrug*
Can you tell the engine banks from that shot?

I dunno, it looks about right to me, the command tower sorta begins after the wing from the looks of it. here. Of course its obviously very cheaply made, the plastic looks all bent and warped.Stark wrote:No no no. LOOK at the miniature. OF COURSE the damn pieces aren't relative scale: no shit. It looks like shit! That's no way to render such a powerful, dignified ship!InnocentBystander wrote:I dunno, it looks about right to me, the command tower sorta begins after the wing from the looks of it. here.
