Every possibility? You're talking about a woman being raped and the morality of aborting the baby.
I brought up the fucking obvious point - how the hell is that pregnancy->baby->infant->child->teen->adult going to affect the mother? And how is it going to affect the child?
It is in my opinion the fucking crux of the moral dilemma, not just a fucking possibility.
So, please respond. Why on earth is it your opinion that a woman (or girl) be FORCED to carry a child of a man who raped them. Let alone be forced to raise it.
Please, do explain your position. I feel I've made mine clear.
A tricky question.

If the child is determined to be a thinking human being, then it has a right to life that overrides the mother's right to avoid mental trauma. If not, then she has every right to abort it. Thus, the solution is dependent on whether the fetus, at the point in time abortion is being considered, is a human being with rights and privileges. Before rational thought - Not human (mother's choice)
Grey middle ground - Cannot be certain, so assume it is human (Cannot abort)
After rational thought - Human (Cannot abort)

Actually, that's a very high standard. Even newborn babies are not capable of rational thought yet, as rational thinking skills develop quite a bit later. What you mean to say is higher-order brain functions, which develop roughly halfway through the pregnancy (~21 weeks).Magus wrote:If the child is determined to be a thinking human being, then it has a right to life that overrides the mother's right to avoid mental trauma. If a woman is impregnated during rape, the latest she'll know of it is some four or five weeks later, I'd think, and so since higher-order brain functions develop around 21 weeks into pregnancy, the fetus is well within the window of time sufficient for morally permissible abortion.
A Government founded upon justice, and recognizing the equal rights of all men; claiming higher authority for existence, or sanction for its laws, that nature, reason, and the regularly ascertained will of the people; steadily refusing to put its sword and purse in the service of any religious creed or family is a standing offense to most of the Governments of the world, and to some narrow and bigoted people among ourselves.
