So far there has been a call for England or Spain. However, since it's rather easy to unlock any power you want by simply editing the right .ini file, we can play an Orthodox or Muslim power as well.
Also, I recommend that for optimal fun, we use half-year turns instead of the lametastic two year turns. We'll have more chances for people to play as a result. I'll put a copy of the relevant .ini file up soon so everyone can be playing the same game.
Anyway, the way this runs: The first person plays until their king dies. Once the heir has the throne, the first player makes a savegame, sends it to the next person on the line, and the cycle begins again. Chronicalling your reign, of course, is always in good fun, so be sure to take screenshots of the campaign map and your battles for the historians.
Anyone else want in? Don't forget to vote for the nation you want to rule.

I'd put a vote down for Milan or Venice. They're both pretty small nations, which I think makes things interesting. Plus they've both got poor cavalry, and I find that when you have really good cavalry the AI armies just melt away.
Also, we should have something in place in case you lose your faction leader early on. Like if the last guy was on the ass end of an inquisition, hands the game over, and two turns later the faction leader gets killed (or some other senario where the last player decided to maroon the faction heir in the middle of muslim country with no support...) they should be given another... go at it. Just so everyone gets a fair chance at playing for at least 10 turns. Eah?

Okay, it's looking like Venice is fast becoming a favorite. I'd not want to do Milan just because of the fact that you're stuck between some of the largest powers right off the bat and let's face it, France and Germany don't play nice.
I'm amenable to a rule stating that you should have at least 20 turns on your "reign", if your king dies before turn 20, feel free to keep going until his heir kicks the bucket. Also, as a rule, do try to make your heirs worthwhile so that the next person isn't totally hosed. Remember, eventually the crown will come back to you.
Also, does anyone have a problem with modding the game so that turns are actually half a year instead of the ridiculous two-year turns the base game gives us? It increases the game length from ~250 turns to ~900 turns, which of course gives us lots more time to do things.

If you did slow time a bit wouldn't that mean the historical events happened a lot slower?

yes, after a fashion. See, the way the game works now, instead of 1 turn = 1 season or 1/2 a year, it's 1 turn = 2 years, which means historical events are happening four times as fast as they should be.

Well in Medieval 1 the setup worked pretty well, and nobody really got massively shortchanged.
Besides, part of the idea is that you play out an entire reign, rather than just you being the big brain that talks through the civilization through the ages.

Actually, if I read the descr_events.txt correctly, the time that the events happens goes by the years, and not the turn.Hotfoot wrote:yes, after a fashion. So they should happen just when they are supposed to be.
But I dont want to take this (too far) off topic, so please continue with the regular programming
I would gladly join too.
I don't really care what faction is played.

Not really. See, the assumption in the game is that 2 turns = 1 year, since that's the rate at which your characters age. However, this is not the case, as 2 turns = 4 years. The events are happening at the right years, but the years are coming far too quickly.D.Turtle wrote:Actually, if I read the descr_events.txt correctly, the time that the events happens goes by the years, and not the turn.

I'm cool with hard/hard. Question is, what about the other 5 players? Oh other 5 players... voice your opinion so we can get this started, EAH!?
Oh question - does everyone have to use the same unit sizes? I seem to recall in Rome it being wierd about unit sizes (if you start the game on one size, but change the settings, I seem to recall the unit sizes not taking effect until you make a new game; not sure if the two are associated or something...)

OKay, so Hard/Hard it is, now as for unit sizes, small, medium, large, or whatnot? Once we get that sorted, I'll start up the game, jumble the list, and we'll get started. Anyone want to have the honor of going first?
Also, everyone's modded the game for 2 turns per year, yes?
