NBSG-What is Starbuck's destiny?

Post by FaxModem1 »

Ok, in 'The Farm' Boomer says Starbuck has a destiny, what is it? or is that a plotline that has fallen by the wayside?

Or is it just living happily ever after with Leoben, even though that's not possible

Thats easy....
Baltar is a Cylon,
and Kara was carrying their love child,
the fetus was removed that episode.
That is so that The Cylons have a mixed set of Y cylon chromazones in the mix. Plus they need both a man and a girl to creat little baby clyons/humans.

I don't know, the producers were so vague with that. That just the most hair brain theory I could think of, Ironically it does not seem that far fetched.

Her destiny is to reach Earth, where she will open a large and successful chain of coffee shops.

Tobbacco takes a while even abusing it heavily. Starbuck is such a complete drunken, slutty wreck of a human being those will catch up to her long before the cigars have time to.

Man, lay off. You're as bad on the series as Dirk Benedict himself...

Oh please. There's a ton of these idiotic nbsg wank-fest threads here. I can't have fun with one?

This is what pisses me off about the new-BSG. The cylons cannot be distinguished from humans, even by medical doctors. They can successfully mate with humans. Basically they ARE humans, there seems no other reasonable interpretation. Calling them machines seems absurd. They have chromosomes, cells, brains, livers, lungs, etc.

THAT'S what pisses you off about it? Why? It's merely the prejudice of the characters.

This is quite possibly going to become the major theme of the show. Especially when you consider the prospect that "this has all happened before and it will all happen again".

Basically are humans, except for the reincarnation and ability to plug themselves directly into a fibreoptic cable...

Even some Cylons think they're getting too human, so this isn't really a problem persay, it's a plot point. They're starting to see human flaws, like bashing each other with rocks, cropping up in their ranks and they jump all over anyone who calls 'em human. They're touchy about it.

Yeah, I can't imagine why the last survivors of a brutal, unprovoked nuclear genocide who have been relentlessly hunted since then would continue to harbor irrational prejudice towards the Cylons.

They're not human- it'a a prejudice, but it's not irrational. They're not born, they're grown. They can't die, they download into identical bodies. They "project" at will, which humans cannot do (is Baltar a Cylon?). They can plug themselves directly into computers with a cable. They interface with their systems by means of a bizarre user interface (ref: Basestar episodes) that no human could possibly use. They're able to tell at a glance which of them is which (human's are oblivious as to which Cylon is which). They can also remember what other copies of theirs have done (Athena to Adama: "and you ask why?").

They're adversely affected by certain forms of radiation. They can survive in a radioactive environment unassisted (occupation of Colonies). Some of them are inhumanly strong and fast. They can survive immense water pressure that no human could withstand ("Water"- deleted scene- Baltar).

Come on. Human my hairy frakking ass.

Well perhaps they could be classified as another species of human.
Like Homo Toasterus or something.

The problem is, how the f*** can a being with those properties be indistinguishable from humans to advanced medical doctors - such that they need Baltar to design a special test to tell the difference? Not to mention being able to successful breed with humans!! You see the problem here? Maybe the show is just too much of a contradictory mess?

Because the examples Vympel cites are mental, not physical, while the physical differences are not easily detectable - which makes sense, considering the Cylons were big on infiltration. Having specialist equipment to detect something they didn't know about weeks before is not a stretch; if anything, it's logical considering the level and success of the infiltration. If Cylon detection were so easy then the attacks wouldn't have been as successful as they had been.

Some of the examples given by Vympel were....

Inhumanly strong and fast.
Able to survive in a radioactive environment unassisted.
Able to survive immense water pressure.

These would require a significantly different make-up than the human body. Certainly enough to be detectable to advanced medical doctors.

Furthermore, the mental attributes Vympel described would require specialist physical structures to make them work that humans don't have.

Anyway, the whole human/cylon baby thing pretty much proves they are, at the very least, a biological species very closely related to mankind.

If other evidence suggests that they are not, then the show is basicaly a contradictory mess.

Which a rundown, ancient Battlestar is going to have plenty of.

They have one guy, and he's in a warship's sickbay. I doubt the facilities are state of the art.

OK, let's see. Able to withstand immense water pressure. That's gonna need a significant changes to the ribcage to allow it collapse safely. So a physical exam might do the trick, an x-ray certainly would. The Galactica has these levels of facilities, surely?

Baltar had his head scanned at one point. Was that an MRI or a CT scan?

And another thing- frak Starbuck. She's a headcase. Things I hate about Starbuck:

- Lied about Zak Adama passing Basic Flight, resulting in his death;
- Lied to Bill Adama and Son about Zak passing Basic Flight, resulting in immense animosity between them resulting from the fact that

a: Lee knew for a fact that Zak shouldn't have been a Viper pilot; and
b: Bill used Starbuck's falsification of his Basic Flight grade as a crutch.

- Arrogant and foolhardy- eg. Convinced of her own skill, she storms the hostages aboard Cloud 9 and in her foolishness, thinks wielding pistols Akimbo is a good idea. Lee Adama is shot for his trouble.

- Sleeps with Gaius Baltar on a whim

- Repeatedly hurts Lee Adama

- Cheats on Samuel Anders with Lee Adama, then runs back to him the very next morning and marries him!

The list goes on and on.

Almost a moot point, but you forgot to mention giving her religion precedence over her CO, leading to theft of a valuable military asset, irregardless of the circumstances.
