Has anyone tried this? (Free MMORPG)

Post by Comosicus »

I've stumbled about this MMORPG on a game website. Given the fact that it claims to be free, I consider having it as a replacement for WoW. Does anyone have any experience with it?

Here it is: RAPPELZ

Thank you.

@ Enigma: I managed to fetch it using the Bit Torrent Mirror, in about two days of irregular downloading. I might give it a try tomorrow, but I was just curious if anyone has found this before.

No MMORPG is free. Even if your time is only worth $5 / hour, you're looking at hundreds of dollars worth of time just to decide whether or not you even like one.

The fact that I cannot find a single concrete screenshot of the game on their website (the trailer is entirely a CGI battle scene, while, it is admittedly rather awesome in terms of coolness shows nothing of features) strikes me as suspicious.

Also, never trust anyone who spells something with a z to puralize. Voicing the pluralizing particle is bad form.

I wonder if they really can get any profit by just selling items...

And someone should hire better writers to their webpage, lack of information (or it's just well hidden) and typoes do not give trustworthy image. And general FAQ link goes to forums.
(Found one sshot with interface)

If I understand correctly, movement is mouse-only... What is wrong with WASD?

But it's "free". 3h left downloading.

Theres around 9 screenshots in the downloads section. Looks like generic korean MMORPG rubbish. Fun if you like a grind.

I played Flyff by the same developers. It was fun and fairly polished, plus the flight gimmick was well implemented. The reason I stopped playing was that after a while the quest descriptions were so poorly translated it was literally impossible to figure out what to do next.

It took me about half an hour to download the client and so far I like it. It gives off vibes of Guild wars mixed with generic Korean online rpgs.

If you can't decide if you like a game in ten hours of playtime, I'm sorry, but there's something wrong with you. I can usually figure out if a game is worth my time in one or two hours.

I also wouldn't say that time is money unless you would otherwise be working during that time, and unless you can somehow manage to play an online game at work, that's very unlikely to happen. Naturally, playing such a game at work is usually a Bad Idea (tm), because it means you're not working.

You can tell if an MMO just plain sucks after one or two hours, but most of them start off seeming really cool and then get stale after a couple of weeks or a month. In my experience, anyway. And time certainly does have a monetary value. In fact, people place more value on their free time than work time, which is why companies typically have to pay time-and-a-half overtime or people won't do it.

People value their free time, but there's no monetary value associated with it. If there were, why don't I get paid for sitting on my ass playing videogames? It's like saying I value my parents, but then saying I would murder them for a monetary amount.

Sure, it's time you could be doing other stuff, but unless you plan on working every waking hour, it's a silly argument.

And what you're describing is simply getting bored with the game, nothing more. It happens. Does it suddenly make the time you already spent playing it less fun? You can do something for years, get tired of it, and still have fond memories and not feel your time was wasted.

Well, there is a monetary value associated with free time because it's an opportunity cost. At the very least, you can point out any of the other non-paying ways to spend free time instead of playing a particular MMO.

That's true, but MMO's have a particular tendency to make people sink a lot of time into them and then regret it later. I'm just saying that saving $15 / month is really rather meaningless considering the amount of time that tends to be invested into these things. If one is slightly more enjoyable but costs $15 / month and the other is free, it's probably better to pay the fee and get the most fun out of one's hours upon hours.

I gave up today trying to get an account. They seem to have severe problems with their website (or the activation module at least) so that whenever I click the activation link they sent, the page that loads says that they could not complete the action. In fact, yesterday, it even displayed the MySQL error on the page, though this morning that error was gone, but the activation was not complete either.

Also due to the fact that their activation link is available only for three hours, I now can't use two of my usual email addresses with them. Because when they register a new account, the system still remembers that email was submitted before, even if it didn't get activated.

I guess that I'll just buy a WoW gaming card after all.

I haven't had trouble registering with them at all. I was able to activate my account within moment of registering.

Well it happened for me ... As I said, I could even read the MySQL error on the page, so definitely there was a problem there. I presume I could write an email to the tech support but I'm not sure I want to bother with it anymore.

For all you know, the MMO may be targeted for people outside US.

Like Maplestory, who else has even heard of it? Even played it?

While the majority of the people here in asia will still like it, most americans complain about the childish graphics and refuse to take a second look. Even my 30+ year old teacher played it.

So it's still depend you to say whether the MMO is nice. It's your personal taste.
