Well, and the concept of a fleet of survivors of the 12 Colonies trying to find Earth, tenets of the Colonial quasi-Greek religion, etc. There's lots of similarities.
Yup, the "new" Starbuck, who can outfly, outshoot, outgamble, oufight, outsmoke, and outfuck any man on the show. Now that's "re-imagining", folks.
Hang about- re: outfucking- Starbuck's never been in a threesome in the show. Baltar has. Incidentally, Baltar consistently beats Starbuck at cards, Kat (another woman) has proven herself equal or better than Starbuck as a pilot in "Scar" (Season 2), Apollo in "Hand of God" proved himself just as, well, frakking insane as Starbuck in terms of flying. As for smoking, well ... meh.

Have you seen a lot of the show? Benedict's full of shit.

Lord Poe wrote:Yes, absofuckinlutely. "neo-Battlestar Galactica" shouldn't share the name of the old show if sets out to change every damned thing that MADE IT Battlestar Galactica. If this new show is so much better, then why can't it stand on its own two feet instead of shiting on the original show that many people loved?
A large part of oBSG's premise was the desperate struggle for survival vs. the Cylon genocide.
Which is exactly what nBSG portrays.
oBSG got sidetracked from this with silly trips to casino planets, cowboy planets, angels vs. devils and the whole useless Terran arc.

You cannot look at the original oBSG TV movie and tell me that was campy and fun. Adama lost one of his sons, his wife and his home. President Adar was practically suckerpunched and humiliated on his crumbling Battlestar, Baltar got double-crossed and beheaded. The scene where Tigh announces that they're the only surviving Battlestar, Starbuck charging in pissed off because the Galactica left him behind only to find out the Colonies were destroyed, the gathering where Adama announces his intentions to seek out Earth. They were all in their own way serious and moving. nBSG has a darker tone to be sure, but it's not that much removed from oBSG as one might think.

Because, as we know, this is the norm in post-Xena Warrior Princess entertainment. Its just not the norm in the span of human civilization.
You're right that it's ridiculous she's seemingly a superhero, but it would be just as ridiculous if Starbuck were still a man.

Stupid, but not as ridiculous. Show me one woman on the WNBA that can hold a candle to an NBA player, for instance.
Right, because no woman could possibly fly anything as well as a man - is that what you're saying?
No, if you actually read my post, I said:

If you had dinged them on her ability to fight men and super-strong Cylons one-on-one I might have agreed with you, but --
If you actually understood what I wrote instead of your emotional reaction to what I wrote, you wouldn't have had the need to post at all.

In a society that doesn't appear to have such a widespread history of discrimination against women who's to say what they're capable of?
Colonial history is tens of thousands of years apart from our own.

Oh, fuck off - I'm being emotional? If you don't like the show don't watch it and don't hang out in threads about it. Your TV has an off switch, yes? Or at least a channel changer?

Yup.

I don't. You would have gleaned that TOO if you actually read what I wrote, instead of getting, well...emotional.
and don't hang out in threads about it.
Can't help that one; slow night. So I picked one of the six threads about nBSG to participate in, is that a crime?
Your TV has an off switch, yes? Or at least a channel changer?
It has both, actually; I went all out. Got me some color, too.

Maybe a daggit?

Poe, your being officially asked by the forum mod to knock it off. Got it?

Yeah, sure. Sorry for expressing an opinion on Starbuck in a Starbuck thread.

No, for being an ass and a troll.
