I've heard a lot of people claim that atomic weapons are different from nuclear weapons...is this true or are they misinformed? (not here...just in various places)
The way I understood it is they are both the same, but I could be wrong....am I?

That's what I thought, people seem convinced that there is a difference between atomic and nuclear.....I had serious doubts about this, but my knowledge is that area is limited.
They're probably confused about A-Bombs and H-Bombs. The atomic bomb uses nuclear fission, and the hydrogen bomb uses nuclear fusion (though it employs fission to get the process going). They are both nuclear bombs, but only one is Atomic.
