I hope they change the scope of the game somewhat, Eve never made me feel like I was actually doing anything for anyone other than myself
Seems to me you should have joined an alliance then. Work and/or fight for the greater cause (building outposts or capital ships is impossible to do with a lot of teamwork, both in industry as military)

I had the luck that me and a RL friend were able to join a new 0.0 alliance. Being new, 0.0 was scary for the both of us, especially since it was at the height of an enemy invasion. It was bloody awesome to fight in puny cruisers next to the big boys for a couple of weeks untill the dust settled and have a new place to claim home.

I'll remain pessimistic and assume they'll all be steaming piles of shit until I hear otherwise.
because there are enough MMO's with orks and elves as it is?

Problem was, I had no reason to care about that greater cause beyond my share of the lewt. I really didn't feel any attachment to the dirtballs we could control, the bases we made, etc. If there was... I dunno, more of a real reason why sector X is different than sector Y rather than security level and resoruce level, I'd care more. I just wish things were more notable.

Warcraft, for example, had structures you wish you could take. Blackrock, for example. Who wouldn't want to take and hold Blackrock? Lord of Blackrock! Now that's a title! But no, they didn't do that, it was just an instance. Blech.

Eve on the other hand actually let you take over and command things, but each thing was more or less the same as the other things. What I'd like is a space version of Blackrock and Stormwind, things that are big and impressive. So if I can take and hold Sirius, for example, it's more like conquering Helm's Deep than aquiring just some random area of terrain.

Anyway, this is just subjective, not an actual criticism of the game's design. It's what would make ME feel better. More bread and circuses. Working for myself was bland, but working for someone who was just working for himself is also as bland. I never felt like anything really mattered--once I did it all and got the biggest, baddest ship ever... then what? Is that it? Go around shooting people? Eh. Somehow, I didn't get it.

The reason we are seeing more MMOs is not just WoW opening the market but these licensed engines and server support. I only hope these more affordable dev costs don't attract the wrong game designers. Hard to tell if it's good or bad at this point, but I have a harder time trusting anyone using Multiverse yet. That and there hasn't been a good MMO that had primarily ranged combat systems yet. Can picture a hundred Derek Smart's trying to get a piece of the market.

<Agent Smith> NO......... </Agent Smith>

The point of Firefly was the characters, not the universe. I MAY give this a spin to see if I'm wrong, but right now, this looks bad. It looks exploitive, and very much up Fox's alley. They're never gonna get this show, aren't they?

Unless this ends up being a money-laundering scheme to fund Firefly Season 2. :P

Yeah, bravo. Be the character Joss Whedon wanted to fuck the most.

I'm pretty sure that's Kaylee. Endlessly sweet, docile, sexy accent, likes machinery, is horny and likes casual sex. And able to go after a guy instead of standing around waiting.

I found her annoying for the most part(for that matter, River is NOT at her best as the 3vil gubmint superweapon!!!!!11111), but this smacks of a guy writing his ideal girlfriend.

River is just Joss Whendon's secondary fetish for 90-pound girls beating the stuffing out of monsters twice their size.

That would be good news. Shouldn't this be the good news we should be hearing?

I agree. If Serenity is any indication of where the show was headed, it's probably best to leave it alone. I wouldn't want to watch Firefly if it became all about River's problems, so every week she has some mental problem which gets fixed by the end. To me, that smacks of laziness. Also, I'm not a big fan of the whole "save the world/galaxy/universe/space-time continuum" stories. Again, lazy writing, because any idiot can make that sort of story interesting.

The Tams were pretty much the impetus to move the main plot forward in that season. It's not surprising that a movie pretty much written as a season finale would focus on them more(though I contend that the develpement was geared more towards Mal here. River was the plot device to get that going). I don't think it would've become an all-about-River issue had the series continued.

Further, it WASN'T about save the world/galaxy/space-time continum. Just have Mal shit in the Alliance's cornflakes by blowing their big secret, which we know he's been dying to do for a while.

Although yes, the show's dead, buried and gone. And it's grave is being pissed on. Thank you AGAIN, Fox.

No, Whedon's fetish is River's feet, because he has a foot fetish.
