Prostitution

Post by Shrykull »

So, what do you think of it? I watched that HBO special last night about the moonlit bunny Ranch in Nevada which is a legal brothel, (and it's legal in Las Vegas too right?) people say that it contributes to a lot of STD's, but so does sex with non-prostitutes, though they may be more of a carrier if they were having unprotected sex with thier clients. People also say that people who have sex with prostitutes are losers and idiots, because they can't get sex from someone else who doesn't sell it, but what about someone who simply wants more variety in thier sexual diet- sex with another partner? Would any of you have sex with a prostitute or be one yourself?

I hate these people who scream that prostitution is immoral. It's your body and they have no business in telling you what to do or not to do with your body. Same for abortion.

By that logic it's ok to kill yourself with narcotics, or commit suicide, etc.

Your poll is lacking an option. I think it's immoral, in the sense that I wouldn't go to one, or wouldn't like my daughter to be one. But I don't want it banned. It will always exist, my point of view is not necessarily correct in this matter (like smoking, another thing I strongly object but don't want banned), and it's best to have them protected, and paying taxes.

I like the way it is here in Denmark.

To prostitute oneself is legal.
Being a pimp is seen as slavery and is therefore illegal.

Basically if you want to sell your own body go right ahead. If you want to sell someone else's body it is illegal.

You don't think that we should try to rehabilitate narcotics addicts, or stop people from committing suicide, that it's ok for a heroine addict to snort himself to death because he likes doing it? they are health problems are need to be dealt with.

Rehabiltating addicts could be helpful to society, so I'll have to conclude that. Sorry. Same for suicide. However, if somebody likes to snort himself to death, that probably means he doesn't want medical care, so we shouldn't worry about him.

Health problems? WTF?

And why are prostitutes exploited? Because prostitution is illegal. You don't see prostitutes in Nevada getting exploited, where it's legal, do you? No. They get medical coverage and workers' rights.

Furthermore, how is prostitution any different from pornography? People getting paid to have sex. What's the huge distinction?

agreed

and its nothing like doing drugs or committing suicide.....

not that im saying those shouldnt be allowed, either. because as long as theyre not affecting others (being high and killing someone etc) it should be legal. just like drinking, as long as theyre not drunk and driving.

I do hope everyone has considered prostitution in countries like those in southeastern Asia when they stated their opinions.

Actually the poll would tend to indicate that this is voluntary prostitution that is being questioned.

What happens in many Asian nations is rape for profit.

I have no moral problem with well run legal prostitution. I think it's a woman (or man as the case maybe) should have ever right to have sex for money. As long as both were checked for STDs and there was some legally binding agreement about any possible pregnancy I see no reason to outlaw it. Sex between consenting adults is harmless so what justification is there for banning it?

That said I wouldn't want a daughter of mine to become one.

In my opinion, the only reason not to legalize prostitution is to avoid possible spread of STDs, and court cases over children. Unless the women are forced into doing it, nobody is being exploited. And if it doesn't end up in rape, nobody is being harmed. I would think government regulations would be necessary, as well.

Men, in most cases, will pay for sex one way or another depending on how you look at it. If somebody wants to weed out all the middlemen and weed out all the ceremony and glits and glamer, if someone wants to direguard all the attachments that normally goes along with courting a women long enough or buying enough for a woman to have sex with him and find one that will take cash straight up for sex, well good for him. In some instances it makes alot of sence. In other situations, like a more permenant situation, it doesn't but that is not for others to decide. It is for the man willing to pay and the woman willing to fuck him for money that must decide.

Well, it is the world's oldest profession. After all, prostitutes have a commodity that they're willing to sell, and they have a market, so economically, it makes perfect sense. Unfortunately, that doesn't mean that it's necessarily right. If anything, it should be objected to on grounds of public health issues. A prostitute, by definition, is somebody who has been very "well circulated". Though, granted, in a culture with increasing sexual freedom, people who aren't prostitutes are getting greater circulation. And worse, it's more of a crapshoot with ordinary people. Some of those "ranches" demand regular testing of their employees, but the typical streetwalker isn't going to hold themselves to so high a standard.

So, is it immoral? If you come from a culture where sexuality is repressed, suppressed and otherwise not expressed, then it is definitely immoral. Otherwise it's no less moral than any other expensive vice, like tobacco, alcohol, or crack-cocaine. But, is it right, or prudent? No, not likely.

But that falls into the category of the Government "protecting" citizens from something they are far better off protecting themselves from.

Just like when you buy a perscription medicine, there are the risks of addition, watered-down medicine, or accidential mis-perscribing.

You don't see a vast increase in STD's in Nevada, do you? That's because prospective customers have the opportunity to shop around, as it were, and pick a better establishment. He knows that he has a less chance of getting an STD at a lisenced brothel than with your average streetwalker. If anything, legalized prostitution may decrease the amount of whore-related STDs.

I think it's not immoral IF:

1) It is consensual, not a slave trade like it mostly is. (obviously)

2) They pay taxes like other workers.

3) There is some compulsory and periodic medical examination to avoid problems.

Not much original points, are they?
