Well, for starters, just as a note, I got the savegame just before the honorable Doge died. While this did ensure that nothing in my turn had been wasted, it did mean a few events in the last months of my father's life were reported in error by his chroniclers.

So far, the fronts in Western Europe go well, but cost much in the lives of men. The great armies we sent to subjegate the heretics and reclaim the Holy Land shall need to be recalled to preserve ourselves against France, Hungary, Milan, and those traitorous swine the Sicilians. Hungary has already been excommunicated, and the rest shall be soon to follow. My priests are converting the Holy Land, while my faithful blade of the night hones his skill on the worthless rabble the egyptians call captains.

Sadly, a counterattack force failed to capture a Milanese heir in battle, but managed to slay and capture his entire retinue. The filthy Milanese refused to pay even the paltry ransom for their heirs bodyguards, and so they greeted the sharp end of a blade with their necks.

The French empty their cities so that they may have enough men to throw at our great fortresses to stain the foundations with blood. Perhaps the armies that laid seige to the Holy Land will do to sack the cities of the vile French to teach them a lesson.
