Who uses Hotmail or other webmail?
Just curious. I suppose I could check all of the accounts to see who uses hotmail, yahoo, netscape, or other free webmail addresses, but that would take way too much time.
I'm just trying to gauge how popular such addresses are. So far, as is always the case on every webboard on the Internet, the most annoying trolls tend to use Hotmail because of the sense of anonymity and insulation from consequences. I'm just wondering what effect it would have to simply block registrations from hotmail addresses, ie- whether it's worth it, but I don't know how popular they are.

Oh well, I guess it would be a bad idea to block new registrations from Hotmail users, then.

I use the U of Iowa's webmail for my personal e-mail (like with family and school). It's only used during the school year.
But I also have a second webmail account at Smurfs.com for pretty much everything else (primarily message boards, friends, etc...) to keep my school account clean of junk. And for the added bonus of a little extra security and privacy (I don't want some freak to start harassing my primary e-mail address).

I use a Pacbell address for friends and personal purchases.
I use a Yahoo account for just all my other net activities.
For a while I was forwarding all yahoo mail to my pacbell pop account but then the free service expired.
Actually, its funny you ask today. I spent part of the day tracking down some spammers and reporting them to spamcop. Yes, its very slow at work.

I used my AT&T Broadband account here because I could hide my e-mail address from spambots when posting. Most of the time, I use a disposable Hotmail or Netscape account when visiting a new board. My "main" Hotmail account gets over a hundred spams (mostly "Get a University Diploma TODAY!!!!") a day, all shunted straight into the Junk Mail folder. It was useful in accessing POP mail away from home, but M$ recently made that a pay service (like nearly every other part of Hotmail now).
Most of the boards I regularly visit (Elite-Fansubs and The Ethos, for instance) have already banned free webmail accounts for new members for the exact issues that you cite. Older Hotmail-using members who haven't made asses of themselves are allowed to keep their accounts.

yahoo account and a hotmail one- Hotmail is used rarely, and mainly sucks up all kinds of spam.

I have a university account I use for school and other business, an Operamail account for most of my personal email, and a dummy Hotmail account I keep active to collect junk mail. When it reaches the account limit, I check all and block everything. I'm not really sure why. It's not like it slows down the junk mail flow. Oh, and I have a secret e-mail account under a different name, just because it makes me feel like a secret agent.

I use Operamail. Love the browser, and needed a new e-mail account because my hotmail account is being spammed into oblivion every day, so I thought what the hell? It may not be as spiffy or user-friendly as the others, but I have made no efforts whatsoever at concealing my address from spammers and I haven't gotten a single piece of spam in the months I've been using it. They must have some awesome filters and blacklists.

--I use hotmail as well. It is the best way to keep in touch with friends since e-mail at ISP's, schools, etc. are not permanent addresses. My hotmail address is permenant though. Nevertheless, I could switch to another account. I do like the fact I was one of first board members though....

I use Hotmail, but it's been pissing me off so much lately that I've switched to Yahoo largely, but still use Hotmail from time to time because I already have addresses there.
BTW, Wong That Is God (TM), I've observed that some trolls use other providers other than Hotmail, although I speculate Hotmail is popular in order to show support for Gates That is Satan (TM)

I use them frequently, two at hotmail and one at yahoo. Since my Isp oddly enough didn't allow me to configure normal email earlier, I took the other option. And now I'm used to that.
