Nintendo recalls over 3 million Wii straps

Post by Bounty »

Breaking @ Beeb
Japanese games firm Nintendo is recalling more than three million straps for its new Wii console.

The announcement follows scores of complaints about the straps breaking during use.

The strap is connected to a motion sensitive controller which is used to control the on-screen action.

There have been many reports of Wii controllers slipping out of hands and smashing TVs and windows - although some of the photos online are faked.

The company has also recalled 200,000 AC adapters for its DS and DS Lite consoles in Japan.

Nintendo said the recall would not affect adapters overseas, and company executives expected only a small impact on earnings.

Am I the only person who doesn't even use that thing? My 'iron grip' is more than enough to prevent the Wiimote from smashing shit.

I put it on 'just in case', but I've never needed it. I guess we're just not fucking retards?

Not especially. I don't own it, but I've played more than my fair share because several of my buddies do.

Was just mentioned in the lunchtime news here. I had to laugh, because I know that these fools are all letting go of the damn thing. Even if the strap were strong enough to take all that momentum, you'd have a controller flying from your hand and rebounding into your wrist. These morons are going to stop getting broken tellies, and start getting Carpal tunnel instead.

I guess that means there'll only be retard-litigation-proof straps available from now on.

Yeah, I'm going to keep using mine until they 'break'. Which they never will.

I'm *THAT* hardcore. Wiimotes with dangerous straps, baby! If I started being an uncoordinated retard, I might break something! WATCH OUT!

I hope sixaxis comes with sturdy straps for those same people who apparently can't hold onto their controllers...

Well, they're not getting recalled, per se. If you want to get a sturdier strap, you can send a form over to the big N. If you don't, well you're a commie terrorist who wants to kill us all! you're free to do so.

I just sent in my form for two more straps. Why not? Two free straps, baby!

That's what I was thinking, too. Hey, free straps, and you don't even have to send the old ones back. :)

:D And I only asked for two straps, which is the number of Wiimotes I have, as opposed to four!

The Wiimotes that are shipping now (and possibly even the ones in stores) come with the new, thicker straps now.

I just played with a controller. Even if I had covered myself in butter before picking it up, and was the fattest, geasiest, most unwashed human on the planet, it's blocked from flying out of my hand by the huge lump of plastic round the back trigger. Unless I let go of it, of course. But in that case, I'd be a total fucking moron, and would deserve whatever property damage ended up with.

After, the butter...you need astroglide still.

I just find the whole thing as being idiot insurance, because there is no other logical reason.
