64 bit Windows

So´m I ordered a new computer and am thinking about getting a 64 bit OS because i want a reasonable amount of ram and the 64 bit version of 3ds max.
Are there any disadvantages 64 bit brings with it or is everything peachy in the brave new 64 bit world?

Not worth it unless your a Dev of some kind. So if your not playing with the 32-bit OS and set yourself to upgrade to Vista next year.

For the average user Windows XP-64 simply adds incompatibilities and no benefits... or so I've heard, None of my machines are running it at the moment.

The thing is that 3ds max 9 supports 64 bit which is supposed to increase viewport speed massivly. I could also easily use 4 gigs of ram because i regularily run out of ram when rendering complex scenes because of the large amount of light sources i´m using.

So, what are the incompatibilities?

Drivers, old equipment ect ect..

However since your using 3dMax the 64-bit route might be a good idea, I misunderstould what your needs where.

Things are still a bit rough (I'm running Vista x64 - legally) with drivers and whatnot but for your purposes I think it'll be worth it. Just do your research when it comes to hardware and drivers and applications.

Make sure you check all your periphs and be certain they have x64 driver support. I overlooked that little aspect when building a CAD machine for a school and their printer won't work with it as a result.
