There is no such thing as 'too much firepower' because there is no such thing as 'negative dead'.

Interesting.

The point is that pancreatic nerve cells are telling the brain that the pancreas is damaged, thus causing type 1 diabetes. If you use capsaicin to kill these nerve cells, then the brain stops recieving signals that the pancreas is malfunctioning, and the diabetes is cured.

:wtf: What was wrong with Canadian medicine to begin with?

We have one of the best and modern health care systems in the world.

A friend of mine's cousin had to get a mammary exam. The waiting list was something like six months - so she tripped down to Duluth and got it. They found a tumor and got it removed while it was still benign.

The bill sucked (though MN has some options) - but a lot less than the risk of the cancer going malignant in the next six months.

Might want to check the News forum, a bit late.

It is, however, a promising find, however people shouldn't expect too much out of it. Should these doctors be able to reproduce their initial findings and explain it, the next step is to test it on primates. A human trial is several years away.

Not quite. There was no mention of the brain involved. The scioenists said that the nerves secrete neuropeptides (proteins generated by neurons) which the Islets of Langerhans need to function. These massive numbers of nerves around the inflamed Islets were secreting far too little neuropeptide, thus, the diabetes. Apparently the more nerves, the less neuropeptide, the less function, the inflammation, which causes more nerve growth.

That depends how you define "one of the best". If you count all the countries in the world including the shitholes, then I guess 30th place (according to the World Health Organization) fits that criterion. Among first world nations...not so much. Unsurprisingly, the US fares even worse at 37th place.
