Reccomended Podcasts

Post by Fleet Admiral JD »

Hey, I just got an iPod and I was wondering what folks 'round here would reccomend I subscribe to for Podcasts. I'm really looking for a good news podcast, but anything else you can reccomend would be great as well.

If the podcast you reccomend can't be found on the iTunes store, a link would be very helpful as well. Thanks!

EDIT: For the record, I have already subscribed to CNN: In case you missed it.

I don't know about serious ones, but a really good news satire one is "Distorted View".

Huh. That's less than 10 condoms per person. Though, assuming an even split between gender, that's almost 20 condoms per penis, so I certainly hope that would suffice for the three weeks they're there. -Alferd Packer

Tony Martin's Get This.

A radio show from Australia, probably the best thing we have on radio. I listen to it constantly, it's pretty awesome. If you listen to the one called "Scodcast", you'll hear me at the end when I call in to the show.

Extra Life Radio. It's a geek/tech news podcast where they talk about movies, video games, sci-fi and all that jazz.

NPR's various programming podcasts (including Talk of the Nation & All Things Considered) are excellent. ABC News' Nightline and Jim Lehrer's NewsHour podcasts are also quite good.

I beg to differ.

I love the smell of September in the morning. Once we got off at Richmond, walked up to the 'G, and there was no game on. Not one footballer in sight. But that cut grass smell, spring rain...it smelt like victory.

Dynamic. When [Kuznetsov] decided he was going to make a difference, he did it...Like Ovechkin...then you find out - he's with Washington too? You're kidding.

Oh, totally. And Evolution 101, 12 Byzantine Rulers, and the Colonial Williamsburg podcast. Image
"The rifle itself has no moral stature, since it has no will of its own. Naturally, it may be used by evil men for evil purposes, but there are more good men than evil, and while the latter cannot be persuaded to the path of righteousness by propaganda, they can certainly be corrected by good men with rifles."

I personally enjoy the Writers' Almanac podcast. All sorts of interesting facts read by Garrison Keillor. What more could you want?

NPR's "Wait Wait, Don't Tell Me..."

Cause any show that has Carl Sagan as they're announcer wins.

Point of Inquiry is another good one in the same vein. Back in February, they came out with the best interview with Dawkins that I've ever heard, and that was what got me interested in it. It's got a lot of debunking of paranormal and religious claims and that sort of thing. Sam Harris and James Randi have also been interviewed on there, so they get some pretty good guests.

Edit: I almost forgot. Some atheist group in Austin, Texas has a TV show that airs every Sunday morning, and they release the audio soundtrack as a podcast. They're very logical and pretty funny. I think their podcast is called The Atheist Experience. As far as I can tell, there's not much lost to the difference between audio and video - the show sounds like it's supposed to be a radio show.
Should any political party attempt to abolish social security, unemployment insurance, and eliminate labor laws and farm programs, you would not hear of that party again in our political history. There is a tiny splinter group, of course, that believes you can do these things... their number is negligible and they are stupid. --Dwight D. Eisenhower
