Do you have you're own Sci Fi series/book/universe
If you do, give us a run down, on it. Let us know what your cooking, give us a summary, description, or maybe even a sample. This is a thread created by me for everyone and myself to find out what your working on or hoping to work on or are just dreaming about. If you got a good plot idea go ahead and post it if you don't mind sharing. Give us a description of your Tech, spacecraft, weapons, species, and environments if you want to. This could be a storage for your ideas, where others could comment on them if you want them to.
This is just a thread for you to release those creative juices and let all those at the board know what you're hoping is a good book/series/universe.
If you have a website post it, or link to a work. You could also post if your a writer and a bio of what you have already done or are working on.
If you don't write at all or don't plan on writing but think you have a good idea for a cool story or fiction go ahead post it. If you just day dream about something and don't plan on writing it into a story or book, post what you day dream about.
What is your Sci Fi Series, book or Universe like? We would like to know.

Crap, I wish I had the edit button for this forum. Dang title has a You're in it instead of a "YOUR". Well whoop de doo.

I've got one that I've been working with since 1997 or so. Tech levels are about on par with the Xeelee (or Culture sublimed) except without time travel. There's more details on my webpage.
It's not my place in life to make people happy. Don't talk to me unless you're prepared to watch me slaughter cows you hold sacred. Don't talk to me unless you're prepared to have your basic assumptions challenged. If you want bunnies in light, talk to someone else.

I've got one that I'm slowly formulating, set in 2403. Only 6-12 solar systems colonized, FTL is either jumpgate(regulated by gov't and extremely expensive to construct) and sleeper ships(needed to first colonize a planet). Weaponry is antimatter, no shields, etc.

I do have my own little Sci-Fi universe and I have been SLOWLY writing a novel for it, I have the first three chapters posted at the Fanfic forum.

My most developed universe doesn't have an earth. It takes place in a wholly separate universe. Technology is considerably above Starwars, similar to that of the Mk1 STGOD. Several massive multi galaxy empires are constantly fighting.
Fleet actions have losses in the millions, but fleets tend to have massive numbers of missile corvettes escorting a limited number of truly titanic battleships, they can conduct a BDZ with a few shots from lesser weapons and are hundreds of kilometers long.

I'm working on a universe currently set in the 2900s. A ground combat story is being worked on here, with a link from there to technology and design concepts.

My personal universe (wholly seperate from this earthly universe) is rather vast. While the majority of the present story takes place in a small backwater part of the universe, the technology is rather advanced. And yes, it is universe spanning.
Rundown of Greater Ays Alliance info:
The Ays are a species that have been in space for well over 50,000 years. They span a mere 103 starsystems, have a civilian population of over 4e18 (4,000,000,000,000,000,000). At present, their fastest ships have slipstream speeds of 10KLY per second allowing them to traverse the galaxy in 15 seconds. Their military ships number 300,000 capital ships and 5,000,000 fighters. All of their starsystems are heavily built up (obviously they would have to be) and each contain thousands of orbitals, billions of spacestations, and a ringworld is underconstruction in the Graza system. They can support this vast amount of construction because they have the ability to produce matter directly from energy (of which they have unlimited supplies for technobabble reasons).
To add to this, they have shields which span entire starsystems out to 200AU.
To reemphasis, this is an empire with 103 starsystems. Most of the large empires in the local region (3000LY around the GAA) have millions of stars under their control. Luckily, the only reason the GAA is so insanely densely populated is because they didn't develope SLOW slipstream until 15 thousand years ago and slowly climbed in speed to modern numbers. The other empires are generally less dense.
Typical ship guns have variable explosive yields, which on the energy put into them upon being fired. Hard numbers are lacking, but they rival SW level weaponry. Missiles on the otherhand are very capable. Standard SKM-7V and SKM-8V offensive missiles have the potential to do serious damage to a planet (the size of the effected area is vastly larger then the intended volume, which lessens their ability). SKM-7Vs will for a very short time halve a planet and put a few inches between the two parts. The resulting combination of both halves would devestate everything on the planet. SKM-8Vs will momentarilly nullify the strong nuclear forces that hold together a the subatomic particles that make up the planet. The end result is that the planet is not harmed terribly much (thrown back to primordial form at worst) but all life and all structures are completely destroyed because their component atoms end up rearraged this way and that. SKM-7Vs and -8Vs are intended to be used to destroy capital ships when their shields drop, so theyre obviously far more effective against ships then planets (which is to say the least VERY effective). Typical radii for spherical detonation zone is 1km and usually results in a very large explosion.
The GAASDF's Fast Attack ships and Heavy Attack Frigates both have gun ranges measured in thousands of lightyears and ALL missiles are slipstream-capable.

These kinds of threads can often turn into uber-fests, but this one seems safe enough.
I guess the two foremost universes I have at hand are:
1)
Main premise is that human civilization has split in two and are ravaging entire galaxies with their civil war. FTL is obviously fast, STL is kinda slow, and weapons are bdz capable. There are also planet-vaporizing weapons as well. Ships are around 700m to 1.7km. Largest ships are about 5km.
There is also a faction of the human race who are fed up with the civil war. They get a hold of some uber tech and try to force unification by launching an all-out attack on both warring sides with superior ships and tech.
This renegade faction also has loose relations with a highly advanced multi-dimensional race who are threatning to totally annihilate the two warring sides due to the amount of damage they're causing but are holding back and letting the renegade faction attempt to force-unify the two sides first. Their patience is running thin though.
The renegade ships have physics-defying tech, just to let you know. And the advanced alien race has 4+ multi-dimenisonal ships.
2)
The good guys are a secret order who are engaged in a dimension-spanning war against a group of malicious demigods+minions. The secret order uses their own agents, their own forces, and various civilizations they recruit to help combat the demigods.
Above this giant war is the council of the most powerful gods/omnipotents in existence. Basically, the council is fighting renegade gods, but since direct fighting would result in the slagging of entire universes, they let the secret order and the demigods do the fighting for them.
The tech level of the secret order are divided into 3 branches: the order themselves, their military, and their recruited civilizations.
The members of the order use what I like to call "Ki-tech". Do not even think about asking me to explain this; to do so would involved at least 1.5 pages worth of long explaining I figure.
The military use tech that is one step below 4-D dimensional tech. And the recruited civilizations' technologies vary.
The main story of this universe focuses on a small group of agents working for the order, and what they do to shape the course of the war.

Basic Summary: Earth has a big civil war in about the year 2284. The Nazis of old have risen up again, this time in space. The Nazis are driven off, then run into some uber-tech free for the taking. Then they come back and sorta-BDZ Earth (think Vorlon Planetkiller type attack). Then the Nazis leave the galaxy and colonize the Large Magellanic Cloud.
All the while, the few humans left behind find new planets to colonize, discover and mingle with fantastic alien species, and generally prosper. They eventually forget about Earth to the vagaries of history, legend, and myth. Then they make contact with the local Galactic Superpower: the Imperium Nawleania. The Nawleanians are a race of sex-crazed genetically engineered cyborg Vampires with a penchant for wickedly dark humor, amazing tech, and singularly terrifying starships. They're the people behind all of the Earth legends of demons, vampires, and other "evil" creatures. They also coexist alongside sentient Dragons, Wyverns, and other various creatures of ancient Earth lore among the stars.
Then, the Nazis Return again! With their new allies the Yehobans (a cookie to who figures out where I got that name); they make a royal mess of things, blowing up 352 planets simultaneously Death-Star style, attacking military and civilian starships alike, and mounting scorched-earth campaigns across Nawleania Galaxy (Milky Way for you Terrans).
If my writing skillz weren't shit, I'd have a fanfic posted...

My own universe isn't terribly Uber.. Unless you like a shitload of warheads racing through space.
Human technology is closer to what's possible than many sci-fi's, for the most part. Hybrid chemical/ion engines peak at 30G's for manned vessels(Mostly because that's all they can offset for the crews), electromagnetic fields provide defense against the irradiating effects of enemy missiles, and the closest to cloaking is sitting behind a handy planet with all systems off. Torpedos range out into several lightminutes, and are kinetic kill, heavy nuclear, or antimatter.
Mind you, the GravBuffer(How they compensate to up to 30G's), and the Resetter(A sort of uber FTL drive, depositing you at your destination inside an instant), are obviously fantastically advanced. But I'm allowed my indulgences!
Though there are other species, the only other technologically advanced race(Who, incidentally, give everyone else their tech in a twisted, perverted 'game'), are the Descendents, or as they call themselves, the Players. Like the gods on Mount Olympus, they play games with mortals, granting incredible powers and unleashing horrible challenges. To them, the very concept of a race of mortals developing spaceflight and combat without their direct intervention is astounding..
Their technology is mostly clarketech, or sufficiently advanced technology. Their FTL is point-to-point wormhole generation, their ships hulking behemoths studded with weapons. They don't use the human philosophy of combat, preferring to use their ship's incredible size and weaponry to intimidate foes. They have some long range missiles, but favor relativistic plasma beams as their weapon of choice. They even employ some manner of shield(Which may be some really powerful electromagnetic field..).

My novel series (I've only written volume one) has several different worlds, each of which can be compared with and contrasted against fictional universes of similar scales.
1: The lost planetary colony where everyone has psionic powers. There are 1 billion humans, 100 million of whom have telekinetic powers roughly comparable to the average Jedi. There is an elite multinational force called the Global Guard, with 10,000 members. A third of the GG are capable of supersonic flight, and more than half can generate telekinesis, energy bolts or shields (or a combination) measuring in the gigawatts. Others specialize in coercion (no exact figures yet, but hundreds of "normals" can be commanded in such a way), or scanning (one character can scan through 10km of granite as clearly as glass, but he's a freak). There are 100,000 dragons; 5000 military, 5000 reserve, all volunteers (they don't understand the concept of conscription and find it perverse and contradictory). ALL of them will fight to defend their territories and loved ones. The average dragon is a 40 ton 10 gigawatt killing machine, complete with shielding to match, near-supersonic flight (telekinetic of course), and an ability to deflect light predator-style.
2: Sharing this planet are the Proteans (massive, superintelligent nanodroids, basically T-1000s the size of skyscrapers with the added options of gaseous dispersion and the growth of multiple energy weapons), and the Leviathans (2000-ft whales with Jehova-like psionic powers over the sea and weather). Both can reach through shields in the multi-exawatt range and simply turn them off, and play havoc with any equipment that is simpler than their own godlike minds (a bit like Culture effectors, but not as fast or powerful, with a range of a few thousand --> 100 thousand, depending on the strength of the enemy).
3: 30th century humans. Ship-to-ship, their about equivalent to the UFP in shielding, firepower and warp speed (but qualitatively very different). Except there are MILLIONS of ships in our solar system alone, with 10s of thousands as large as Enterprise E or larger.
4: 25th millenium posthuman alliance. Basically 30C humans times several million, with godlike AIs on their side. Sort of halfway to being the Culture.
There are more godlike entities, but there are too many to list.

I have several. All of which are in my head because even though I consider myself a writer, I am not very prolific yet and am a cursed procrastinator. If only you sould see the stuff in my head. It's an ongoing 24/7 film reel
I will have books published (hopefully as a career) during my life. Unless I die too soon
I will have books published (hopefully as a career) during my life. Unless I die too soon
I had originally a space-opera called Sky Ocean, spanned through 8 centuries ( IIRC ) of story, but I gave up.
Then I discovered the Culture, which inspired myself a lot.
I build my little Culture-like universe. There are important differences, though. It takes billion years to Sublime, for example ( nowhere near the ease with which Cultureverse civs can do it - omnipotence has a higher price in my universe ). AIs are not that predominant, except in the Collective, a huge mix of biological and artificial minds ( no, nothing to do with the Borg ). Other powers, like the Community, use the Transcends, who are vastly enhanced computer emulations of biological minds ( though being close to Culture Minds or God-like AIs in terms of sheer power, they're not "artificial" intelligences. Any citizen of the Community will one day be allowed to become a Transcend ( and for example pilot a capital ship ), and they use their mortal life to prepare to that - of course, they can choose not to do it ). Warfaring abilities are equal or above the Culture's ones, and FTL is a lot faster ( many Galaxies are concerned ). There are way fewer civilizations per Galaxy, and there are no "humanoids" in the Culture/ST acception of the term : "humanoids" are genetically modified human strains, and "anthropoids" are aliens or "humanoids" who have a biological design ( head, legs, arms, etc ) close to our own. Therefore a Kevghica cybernetized blob is a "humanoid" but not an "anthropoid"
The main storylines are about the Community and the Collective, which protect lesser humanoid cultures from each other and from exterior threats. They may intervene through some kind of Special Circumstances section humanoid conflicts, and protect from alien invasions.
Era : 30 000 years from now.

Mine verges more on fantasy than anything else. If it were being pitched, i'd say: "Take Buffy, Godzilla, The Hulk, the Farside and the Simpsons...put them in a blender, and this is what you might get."
Basically, it's about a boy who inherits an ungodly amount of power, which he cannont control. the various stories surrounding this character hing on several things: Demonization of everyday life; Cool Monsters; Blunt/straightforward characters; Odd humor and Emotional Strain.
Oh, and being straightforward with everyone, including the audience.
Example Dialogue:
Jason: Dude! Pygmalion much?
Alex: What?
Jason: YA know, "Pygmaleon", "My Fair Lady", the setup for just about every Teen movie ever made?
Alex:...
Jason: It goes like this, Popular person A, that's Sarah, Tries to make Unpopular Person B, that's you, into a popular person to win a shallow bet with her exeedingly shallow peers. Eventually, the two fall for eachother romantically. And, after working up a load of sexual tension, their is some "breaking" moment...ya know, like in "She's All That", where she finds out it's all based on a bet?
Alex: You actually sat through that movie!?
Jason: ....ANYWAY...after that, A and B get back together for some odd reason and they live annoyingly ever after. I vomit, the end. Got it.
Alex: Dude...that sucks.
Jason: Just here to warn ya.
Alex: What should I do, oh, wise one? (Sarcasm required for this line)
Jason: I dunno. Sarah's hot, if you want to put up with someone trying to change your image, then go ahead.
Alex: it's the Hormones against my Moral Code...
Jason:....Have fun Fucking her brains out then.
Alex: (gives Jason an odd look), Dude, my moral standard one out...
Jason: Well, at least break up this travisty by feelin' her up a bit...for me?
Alex: you really want this to be happening to you?
Jason: I'm a sad, sad little boy.
Alex: So what else is new?

At the moment, I have two Universes I'm working on, one has been in a long period of gestation, I hope someday, I'll put it on the Web. The other, I'm writing a story, and I'm developing it as it goes. Anyway...
My main Universe. It's set in the 2200-2300's, Human History is diferent, due to an ancient alien contact and global colonization, it didn't altered the humans much, but it acelerated techonlogical development (for example, Alexander stole the gunpowder from the Persians, there was a global community before 0 AD. I'd like to say that I don't believe in any of this, but I created it solely for the fun in altering History.) Inexplicably, the aliens left, but there are a lot of records of their presence. Several "agencies" kept those records, and there's a "dark" war going on for the posession of those records, and ultimately, the explanation of who they were and why they left.
There are 3-9 factions (I'm still working on those), and explored space is still withitn 100 ly, with travel achieved through jumpgates (called ERBI's).
There are a lot of ships, some of them kick-ass (for this Universe), from assault carries, battlecruisers, to corvettes and fast attack craft, there are fighters and bombers, but those are seldom used.
Weapons used: rail-guns and missiles (nukes are only reserved for special targets or ocasions), there's development of beam technology, but those are still in the prototype phase (or are they? mwahahah..). Main power is provided by fusion and "magic vroom-vroom technology", thrusth by said technology and ion drives. Anti-matter is a no no, too dangerous to have on a warship... Singularity power is still in a theoratical basis, and computer simulation process.
Ground forces are provided by the Army and Marines in powered combat suits, with tanks, artillery and support craft, the works.
Terraforming (I call it Geoformation) is in development, nanotech and gene-engeneering are heavily regulamented due to two previous wars (Nano War and Eugenics War, respectevely).
AI's exist, but aren't fully implemented, most are affraid of another war on the scale of the Nano and Eugenics. But there is a Virtual World, inhabited by virtual humans and AI's, but I'm not going into this one much.
Ecological concern has been in existance from over 200 years, after a major ecological catastrophe on Earth. (I'm thinking about regenerating the ozone layer...)
Earth is the main power, but due to sucessive governmental budget cuts, other powers have taken the cue and have been stepping in on the power void, pirates are still a menace, and there are rumours of a new threat on the fringes of known space. A new war is upon us.
OK, so much for this one. As for the second, like I said, is still a work in progress, but it happens "a lot of centuries" from now, there are aliens (organic and sinthetic), Earth (Confederation of Human Planets) has more than 50 colonized systems, and it's on the fringe of war with an alien race called the Azulam. One interesting note, I'm using ancient Greek names for my characters, at least it different, and I don't have too much work inventing stupid or unpronouncable names for them (more important, untypable), well, except for the aliens, of course.
FTL is achieved by null-space travel (you could call it hyperspace, but I'm tired of that name), and STL propulsion by any means necessary...
Just kidding, it got's inertialess and conventional drives.
Weapons... well, there's beams, bolts, slugs, you name it, I still don't know. Shield tech exists and uber biotech is NOT an option. Maybe there are phychic powers, the Azulam may have them, and there may be some interesting pieces of technolgy.
And... I think it's all. Everything is still a work-in-progress really, I'm only on the first chapter, and the main character is still in Human space. I'll let you know how it goes...

I should have put some of my ideas down on here, but I'd rather collect some of them and organize them better. Maybe I'll post some of my writing later (When I've actually got some done).
Quick question. If I wanted to post some of my writing, would I put it in Fanfic? I ask because my writing is my own, not based on existing universes. Maybe a stupid question, but some forums I have been on previously were strict about this sort of thing, and if it wasn't specifically "Fanfic" it had to be posted in a different forum section.

I have two universes that I'm rolling around in my mind.
One is in the near future, after a global nuclear war. Civilization has fallen, replaced by tribal entities that vie for power and supremacy. Diseases and rape gangs, once largely under control, rampage the landscape. Caught in the mess are normals and mutants. Occupations range from bounty-hunting to witch-doctoring (a superstition brought about from the war) to people who are just struggling to live.
The other is set 10,000 years in the future, in a section of the Orion Arm of the Milky Way. FTL is by a network of wormholes and probably portable wormholes for the super-advanced. Due to the gigantic scale of the area, many civilizations and empires exist far apart from each other. Due to the lack of FTL shortly before, there is almost no connection between cultures, except for ansible (operates on quantum entanglement) communications.
Beings range from reanths (part man, part animal), cyborgs, uplifts (animal species that had been given intelligence by man) many new species of human, and of course aliens. No alien species is humanoid, though.
