Mormons and Deaf people
Before I started posting here, I learned that the Mormon church has the highest ratio of deaf ppl to hearing ppl than any other church in America, because the Mormons tend to be more active in recruiting more people from different backgrounds into their church. Mormons put a high mark on social events, which deaf people happen to like. Just thought it was interesting...

Actually, I went to a Mormon cookie party last October (some guys on my cross-country team are Mormons and they are learning ASL). Two deaf elders were there AND a BLACK ELDER TOO!! Also a girl (another Mormon) I like is from Columbia (she's adopted)

The Mormons in Australia are now it seems exlcusively going after people of Asian background- those wholesome Mormons are walking up to veitnamese/chinese/koreans on the trains and trying to recruit them- often by speaking their own language rather than English- odd.

Mormons in Asia? I thought Moronism was a religion exclusive to North America.

Strange. I thought in Moronism doctrine there is a piece dictating Morons to convert people from the Lost Tribes of Israel, which were exclusive to North America. Apparently they think that some of the LTOI emigrated to Southeast Asia.

As long as they are willing to give their 10% tithing to the church, anyone can be the "lost tribe of Israel".jaeger115 wrote:Strange. They say, "the tree of liberty must be watered with the blood of tyrants and patriots." I suppose it never occurred to them that they are the tyrants, not the patriots. Those weapons are not being used to fight some kind of tyranny; they are bringing them to an event where people are getting together to talk. -Mike Wong
But as far as board culture in general, I do think that young male overaggression is a contributing factor to the general atmosphere of hostility. It's not SOS and the Mess throwing hand grenades all over the forum- Red

Every Mormon I have ever seen comes from America. I don't think we have 'indigenous' Mormons, though they sure are trying it seems.

my AP US History teacher has a copy of the Book of Mormon on his shelf in the classroom, though he's not one of them. I took it out for a little read and saw only Lamanites in New York, Lamanites in Missouri, yadda, yadda, yadda.

If you feel your needs aren't being met I'm sure we could arrange to export some more.weemadando wrote:Yes we have goddamn mormons. You guys have been exporting them for quite a fucking while.jaeger115 wrote:Mormons in Asia? I thought Moronism was a religion exclusive to North America.

When I was in the Navy one of my roommates at school gave each of us a wrapped "Book of Morman" for Christmas. His mom had sent them for his roommates. Never read it and I don't have it anymore. Still, that's pretty damn ballsy and kind of rude.jaeger115 wrote:my AP US History teacher has a copy of the Book of Mormon on his shelf in the classroom, though he's not one of them. Well in Adelaide there is one. They spent about $1 million (Australian, however this figure is off the top of my head coould be higher, $1 million in adelaide will get you a very nice piece of land and a very good place, the BEST homes for the rich here are not much more than $1 mill) It is fairly ornate, caused quite a stir here and they had an open day when they finished building it. I think it may have been the largest mormon temple in Aus or even the Southern hemisphere, or possibly even outside the US, but I am not certain of it, it was the largest of something (but could be just in this state and that is not really much) From what I have seen of the outside it is more ornate than your average Aussie church but less than the cathedrals. But it looks very extravagent. And IMO hideously out of place.jaeger115 wrote:How big and ornate are moron temples?

Doesn't surprise me. I was at one HUGE house owned by a mormon family. Despite the house's size, the living room couldn't hold more than ten people when packed in like sardines. I have a very low opinion of mormon aesthetics. And IMO hideously out of place.

They vary in size. Some (Salt Lake, Los Angeles, D.C.) are quite large with multiple levels. Others are not much larger than a standard church.jaeger115 wrote:How big and ornate are moron temples?

I believe a while back, the government was cracking down on racist organizations claiming tax-exempt status, and the Mormons had racist practices then.Darth Servo wrote:Where did you get this bullshit?Wicked Pilot wrote:Funny how they avoid recruiting non whites though.

And you think that said "racist practice" meant "exclusion of all non-whites" even though their missionaries were being sent to the American Indians from day 1Asst. Asst. Lt. Cmdr. Not so odd actually. The Mormons aren't restricted to North America by any means in their evangelistic efforts. As well, when Mormons do go overseas, such as to different Asian countries, they study the local language rigourously. I believe they take some early preparatory classes in Utah before shipping out. Once in the host country the new missionaries study the language as part of their training. Usually a new arrival is paired up with an older and presumably more fluent native speaker.Vympel wrote:The Mormons in Australia are now it seems exlcusively going after people of Asian background- those wholesome Mormons are walking up to veitnamese/chinese/koreans on the trains and trying to recruit them- often by speaking their own language rather than English- odd.

If trees could scream, would we be so cavalier about cutting them down? We might if they screamed all the time for no good reason.
