I shit you not

Really, you have to see it.

They not only went all out on this one, you have to love what they want to imply about people and video games. Mind you this is just the trailer for a film.

'Violence has been seen as a vice"? When, exactly? It's been glorified since the dawn of humanity. The entire movie industry of the 80's was built around muscular, oiled-up heroes blowing up commies. Poems, songs, war movies, the majority of fiction produced during the last few millennia is based on the glorification of violence.

Sheesh. You'd think they'd at least be consistent and go after all media depicting violence...I could respect that, in a way. Not this overemotional, alarmist nonsense.

Well, I hope that if they do stop violent videogames, we'll see a resurgence of 80s style macho bullshit movies! I'm sick of pussies like Ben Affleck doing shit, I want homoerotic naked musclemen who can't act wagging around their phallic machineguns and howitzers!

I'm reasonably sure that I saw clips from Tron and City of Heroes in that thing.

City of fucking Heroes. The game where the only way to gain experience is to protect the innocent - admittedly, by beating the hell out of various villains using incredible powers, but are we really supposed to be worried about some kid using heat vision on his neighbor's dog?

The one thing America still has going for it - gratuitous violence and the glorification thereof - and now that's being pissed away. Woe, how the Republic has fallen.

It's funny seeing the conservative minds produce a more pussy whipped America than any peacenik envisioned.

There's a belief that the 9/11 hijackers also practiced on Flight Simulator.

I would make a similar video, depicting how Bible (and Qu'ran) propagates violence MUCH bigger than some silly-ass video games.

And Im pretty damn sure I could find even hundreds of examples were religious belief has led to violence and killing, making the arguments much more valid than what they are trying to push through in that video.

And those examples would be damn better than the halfassed assesment of how Flight Simulator helped the terrorists to execute the 9/11 attack. What kind of logic is that anyway? Sticking to it we should ban passenger jets althogether, since they were the tools of the strike.

You know what? Every day Im more proud of being an atheist and my ideological position having nothing to do with such uberwank propaganda that 100% comes from rightwing christian fundies. Fuck them. If I would be a catholic I would be ashamed that idiots of that kind are in the same group as me.

I have been playing computer games for more than 15 years now. And I dont feel any more violent than before.

Luckily the laws of free market exist - if there is demand there will be supply. And computer games are too damn cool of an entertainment to be simply banned by a group of political attention whoring witchhunters.

FACTS:
1. This chart from the gov'mint which was the first hit on google for the string "violent crime rates decline" displays a massive decline in violent crime after 1994.
2. DOOM was released in 1993.

Coincidence? I THINK NOT!

Joking aside, the intellectual disconnect is interesting. In the trailer there's some on-screen text that tells us that "half of America plays video games" and then we have people talking about how games are turning kids into sociopathic killing machines. Videogames featuring mass killings have been floating around for at least fourteen years (taking Wolfenstein 3D as our first case), a period during which violent crime in the USA has indisputably be on the decline. So, either there's a ticking time bomb (as claimed by the jackass vaguely mumbling about "Columbine times 10! ZOMG!") which will soon unleash a wave of youth violence, or these people are completely full of shit. I'm leaning towards the guano explanation.

As for the spurious "9/11 hijackers trained on MS Flight Simulator" charge, I'd like that meme to stay around because it shows how pathetically stupid and out of touch the anti-videogame crowd is. You can't learn how to fly a plane with a flight sim game, any more than you can learn to shoot from Call of Duty, or how to handle a racecar on city streets at 150 MPH from Need for Speed. The 9/11 hijackers went to flight schools for months.

In any case, if people could be trained to fly airplanes competently with flight simulator games available for $50 at BestBuy, it wouldn't be a bad thing. Laying "ZOMG 9/11" aside, if people could be trained to perform complex tasks like flying commercial jets at rock-bottom prices in total safety (crashing a computerized plane during training doesn't cost a dime and hurts nobody) it would be excellent.

Finally, there's plenty of people (myself included) who've been committing digital homicide for over a decade without turning into bloodthirsty monsters. Shit, I can't count how many computer-people I've killed in just shooters like Doom or GTA3 over the years, though I'm certain it must in the five-digit range. Yet I'm rather passive in real life.

Besides, playing football in real-life gives you much more useful knowledge of how to physically hurt someone than an eternity of videogames ever would. Why aren't these people clamouring to ban football?

Or hockey for that matter? There's a fight in the NHL, it makes the highlights. Hell, I was at a tryout game for the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles (QMJHL), and there were three fights in one game!

No it doesnt.

While some missions involve having to fight the cops, killing a cop or anyone will get you a star and then they will come and, most likely, kill you. In fact the cops are more likely, and equipped, to kill you than most of the enemies.

The numberless Anti-Game Violence people harp on how bad GTA is because they're prudes who never played it nor do they even have any concept about the actual game (yous pend most of the time killing other criminals).

Also...it's not an FPS.

Most FPS games, most games in general, have you killing people who either are trying to kill you first and doing horrific evil things, or monsters who are, by definition, evil like demons or genocidal aliens.

Doom was about killing demons who wanted to invade Earth and kill all of mankind.

Wolfenstien was about stopping the Nazis from triggering the End of Days. Not to mention the experiments they were conducting. Blood Rayne was effectively the same plot.

The primary concept of Mortal Kombat is they're fighting to protect Earth from being destroyed by an evil, demonic warlord/god/sorcerer/etc.

Duke Nukem was protecting mankind from aliens who wanted to conquer us and rape our women. That's about as justified as it gets, wars on Earth were fought over less than an extraterrestrial version of the Rape of Nanking.

DX was about stopping a global conspiracy bent on world conquest which had already killed millions with a nanotech plague.

Is in third person and you don't get rewarded, the game gets harder.

The real question is how this relates to the gay agenda and the downfall of American society. Oh, and the title, they can't call it Mortal Kombat with-a-'K,' can they?
Finally, there's plenty of people (myself included) who've been committing digital homicide for over a decade without turning into bloodthirsty monsters. Apparently, we have to restrict freedom-of-choice for the millions of lazy, couch-ridden FPSers and shit just cause a handful of idiots every year that shoot up schools happen to have played Doom.

These random murderes happen to have said crap about God, or crap about 'survival of the fittest,' had easy access to guns, some neo-nazi leanings and a fucking gagglefuck of other circumstances, but this is the scapegoat? Liberman can go fuck himself. :finger: :banghead: Oh yeah, a lot of these kids were unpopular too, LET'S BAN UNPOPULARITY.

Any shitstain can post-hoc anything out of a school shooting cause the second you disagree or raise any kind of dissenting opinion the emotional appeals and overtures of protecting child innocence come down on top of you like a ton of bricks.

Also, just about every Star Wars game set during the OT era, with the exception of TIE-Fighter.

Indeed, but you said it yourself some missions have you fighting cops. You don't get rewarded by failing missions.
The numberless Anti-Game Violence people harp on how bad GTA is because they're prudes who never played it nor do they even have any concept about the actual game (yous pend most of the time killing other criminals).
It doesn't matter even if that was the primary purpose. It's just a game.
Also...it's not an FPS.
An irrelevant point...

Yes, but when it's apart of a mission you get something. It doesn't matter to me because it's just a video game, and in video games you get to be things that you really aren't. I don't see why people get so excited because the player is killing police officers in a fictional enviroment.
