Sound recording from comp

Post by Lazarus »

Is there a way to record exactly what is playing through your speakers into an mp3 or equivalent format? The origin of the sound in question is a website, if that makes any difference. Thanks.

Ok, plug the 3.5mm cord (Its usualy the green cord if you have external setups, from your speaker (The gren plug in point) into the red plug (it has a tiny micphone symbl on it) . Once you have done that, go into volume settigs, and use a pair of headphones pluged into either A the headphones in jack of your speakers, or b the internal mic in jack on your PC. Adjust the volume levels, and then open up Audicty. hit record, open up the webste, and profit, After the sound has finished, you then stop recording on Audicaty, and save the sound as a .wav..

Depending on your setup you may have a "What U hear" option in your windows mixer (under the recording setup). If so just set the source to that and press record in whatever software you're using.

So essentially I need to run a twin-end sound cable from the speaker port into the mic port, and then just record it in Sound Recorder? Ok, so now the only question is, where to get such a cable...

It is the run of the mill bog standard 3.5mm cable.

The same as any headpones for an ipod or whatever, you local shop that sells tv/sterios will have one.

You don't even need the cord, I think. I've recorded stuff with Audacity with just my headphones plugged in. Just fiddle with the input sources a bit.

True, I did not read the question...

I just assumed that Redleader34 wanted to record FROM an extrenal audio device...

In Audacity go to Edit/preferences/ and change the recording device.

Microsoft Sound Mapper works for me.
