Yes, but when it's apart of a mission you get something. It doesn't matter to me because it's just a video game, and in video games you get to be things that you really aren't. I don't see why people get so excited because the player is killing police officers in a fictional enviroment.
Well i agree with you completely on this, i too dont really know why people are so offended by something that is so obviously fictional. It's like those people who lost their shit when that faux documentary about Bush being assassinated hit the airwaves, as if someone would, without any pre-existing reason at all, jump up and go assassinate the president.

You can't learn how to fly a plane with a flight sim game, any more than you can learn to shoot from Call of Duty, or how to handle a racecar on city streets at 150 MPH from Need for Speed. The 9/11 hijackers went to flight schools for months.
My SO was really big into flightsimming. When he started to learn to fly actual planes, he said that he felt the flightsimming experience was a bit of a hindrance, because you've built habits in a virtual world that only provides you with a fraction of the sensory input that you get from real flying.

People always blame what the current media trend is for the decline of moral in children. Music has been corrupting children even long before Elvis and his disgusting hip movements. My grandmother told me how my Great-Grandmother wouldn't let her and her sister listen to Bing Crosby because he was a crooner and that sort of music was no good for them. In the 50's, the comic books were responsible for teenage violence. Moving on, violent movies and TV became the culprit. I'm sure whatever new entertainment trend comes along in 10 or 20 years time, these people will blame for violence and moral decline.

I remember once challenging one of these "moral decline" idiots to show that the morality of society was in fact declining. I pointed to decreasing racism ... and he asked what racism had to do with morality. Seriously, that actually happened.

This is a shocking video that makes me question my moral values.

No, really! It doesn't.

Playing unreal tournament will not make you any better at shooting guns, nor make you more violent than you are. Playing racing games will not make you better at driving cars. Playing sports sims will not make you better at sport. Actually shooting, driving, and playing sport will make you better at those things.

How is it that you manage to meet so many absolute morons? Seriously, I find your stories of such people amusing and fairly informative, but they seem to be everywhere in Canada. Do you go out hunting idiots to stay sharp?

I don't know, I think it represents what we the gamers need to make clear pretty well, the fact that he picked such an appropriate song for the background music is astounding, since I've never seen a video commentary use that song in it's correct context.

True, I just like it to go into further detail. (it feeds my lust for information) Though in hindsight it doesn't need to, what I was expecting would be full fledged documentary. I like a massive smack down against idiocy.

As a gamer though it does accurately represent what I think of it. I guess I'll have to wait for the "documentary" to air before I see things on the scale of what I'm hoping for.

Edit: finaly double digit postcount, I suck.

Actually, this was someone I was arguing with over the Internet, not face to face.

No, I just pounce when I run into one. And let's face it, 80% of average people are idiots (just look at how people drive), so it really doesn't take long to run into examples of the breed.

No shit. Really?
Next you're going to tell me that morality is a term that everybody interprets in a way that just happens to concur with their own agenda.
This 'video games are TEH EVIL!WAAH!' stuff is getting old.

No, not really. It's just very likely. He could also be really stupid, and not understand how racism is immoral.

Why would I tell you that? Morality is not a subjective term. It is very well defined, but still people don't understand what morality really is, or if they do they use it as a buzz word to motivate others who aren't as intelligent as they are.

I wonder if the high ranking members of organizations behind such movements really believe what they are saying, especially high ranking members of the church. To be able to manipulate large groups of people takes someone of reasonable intelligence.

That's a distinct possibility, I'll grant you that.

Isn't that basically what I said above?

I'm not sure how to respond to that. On one hand, as you said it takes quite a bit of intelligence to manipulate people that way. On the other, humans have shown time and again that they can be quite intelligent in general yet abysmally stupid regarding something they are emotionally involved in. While I agree that a) high ranking church members likely are rather smart and b) again, might know what they're peddling is garbage, I'm not sure that that's a given.

Well the fact that high ranking church members (up to and including the Pope, which at least were Catholics are concerned is about as high as it gets) were involved in shady dealings-knowingly so-isn't exactly a recent discovery.

High-ranking church members don't care whether their arguments make logical sense, because they think God supersedes logic. Martin Luther said that himself, something along the lines of how faith must trample underfoot all sense and reason. In other words, it's not a question of whether they know they're full of shit; they don't think that abusing logic or using self-contradictory arguments means anything because they don't think logic itself means anything. They think it's just a trick that philosophers have invented to confuse the faithful.

I loved the part where they were showing Vampire Bloodlines, and they said "We are what we pretend to be. We should be careful about what we pretend to be." I laughed and my ribs hurt really badly. (fucken broken bones), damn now if I could just use my powers from Whitewolf, I could have healed these broken ribs already)

It's really cool that we are what we pretend to be. I guess that means my son David is actually a 30 foot tall four million year old sentient killing machine named Megatron, as of one hour ago. Two hours ago, he was a Roman centurion. And before that, a pink flying bubble named Kirby.

Well, I pretend to be heroicy heroes saving people from evil, commanders of vast egalitarian space navies, or a Kirby the Risen Star God off on war to smite the undead and demonic with my star rod and amazing cuteness. Zomg teh evil!

I like how the PA strip added some popular games to the background, like Wii Sports. I was at my friend's house and his fiancee and I were goofing around with a cooking game and a new Kirby game on the DS. These are obviously the demonseed of our generation.

Another week, another morals crusader on the warpath. When the current generation of gamers become the establishment, where will they go next?

The church has been pretending to be a useful beacon of morality for over a millenium, maybe it'll work for them too.
