The First Black man to ever be elected to state office in Maryland will
be sworn in, along with his running-mate, Governor-Elect Bob Ehrlich,
Marylands first Rpublican governor in 36 years, since Spiro Agnew!

Ha, HA HA HA, I'm still laughing over the Kennedy bitch's decision
to pick a white retired admiral as her running mate on the democratic
ticket, while the GOP picked a black man, bwhahhahah

I predict that our first black President will hail from
the Grand Old Party, NOT the democratic party.....

It's possible the "20 year curse" will strike both George B. and Dick C., landing Colin Powell in the President's seat.
I am capable of rearranging the fundamental building blocks of the universe in under six seconds. I shelve physics texts under "Fiction" in my personal library! I am grasping the reigns of the universe's carriage, and every morning get up and shout "Giddy up, boy!" You may never grasp the complexities of what I do, but at least have the courtesy to feign something other than slack-jawed oblivion in my presence. I, sir, am a wizard, and I break more natural laws before breakfast than of which you are even aware!

I'm amazed it hasn't happened already. What with Dick's heart and Dubya's inability to eat pretzels.

Colin Powell didn't run because his wife didn't want him to. Too bad, really; he is one of the most highly respected men in America, regardless of skin colour.

Naw, it skipped Reagan, so the "curse" is broken.

Yes, but it obviously failed.

He was shot by a man named John Hinckley, who was trying to show his love for Jodie Foster.

Yep, he was shot by John Hinkley who did it to try and impress Jodie Foster.

Also of note, Reagan's press secretary John Brady was shot in the head but survived. He's pretty messed up and in a wheel chair. His wife Sarah is a big anti-gun advocate because of her husband getting shot. I'm not positive but I think she helped start Handguns Inc.

If both the President and Vice President died, wouldn't the Speaker of the House fill in, and then the Attorney General?

She's the brains behind the Brady Bill, which forces a 5-day wait on handgun purchases while they do a criminal background check. You would think something like this would have been an obvious necessity already, but it wasn't.

Yes he is. If Powell ran for President, I would crawl through fire and death and broken glass to get to the polls.

Colin Powell could certainly be elected--his major hurdle would be getting nominated.

I really don't think he'd have a problem getting nominated if he wanted it. Republicans like him because he's one of their own. Democrats would probably do anything at this point to get a black man in the Oval Office, since only thread they're hanging on anymore is being the official "Minority Party". The general public likes him because he's perceived as wanting to take steps to make America more secure, but he wouldn't inspire the fear about personal freedoms that the Dubya Administration has.

Give the Democrats historical record on race, I would expect a Republican black president more then I would a democrat.

Nope, Alexander Haig :)

Not if Trent Lott has anything to say about it.

He doesn't. He's out as majority leader. And historically the Democrats do have a demonstrably worse record of supporting civil rights legislation.

They say, "the tree of liberty must be watered with the blood of tyrants and patriots." I suppose it never occurred to them that they are the tyrants, not the patriots. But as far as board culture in general, I do think that young male overaggression is a contributing factor to the general atmosphere of hostility. It's not SOS and the Mess throwing hand grenades all over the forum- Red

How strange, then, that the vast majority of those Southern voters, formerly democrats, who opposed civil rights switched to the Republican party. I guess the people who cite the out-of-date Democratic party voting trends never heard of the "Southern Strategy."

I'm pretty sure he was also afraid of being assassinated and receiving death threats, a lot like what happened to Martin Luther King, Jr. and Malcolm X.

How strange that Northern Schools are LESS integrated than Southern schools nowadays. The fucking liberal hacks never practice what they preach.

Most Southern states have majority democrates in Congress right now. They still vote the same way they have for decades.
