Check out the awful link of the day.

So, like, I guess the Empire could kick the Federation's collective ass, but was there any question about that in the first place? I mean, the Empire has total floating death stations and the dark side of the force. The Federation has what? The holodeck and a lot of pussy rules. Yeah, good luck taking on the universe with that stuff Captain Loser of the Loser Federation.

To most normal people, it's pretty obvious that giant-ass heavy-metal battlewagons could kick the shit out of shiny plastic ships with cool luxury options. He's just pointing out how obvious it looks, and he's got a point. Unfortunately, the Net is crawling with Trekkies who find this conclusion to be anything but obvious, and they traditionally bluffed pseudoscience in order to back up their bullshit. That's the biggest reason why this site was created in the first place.

Of course they're mocking the site. This activity looks ridiculous if you're not on either side of it. Mind you, to me the idea of "studying" Shakespeare for hidden meaning and writing dissertations on those hidden meanings is equally ridiculous, but people who do that get tenure and oak-paneled offices.

Of course, even SA.com doesn't actually *argue* with anything on the page: simply whips out the 'loller lame teh lamezor' thing. I guess that means to disinterested observers, '5 minutes' works just fine.

Yeah, as someone pointed out a while ago when Darkstar's site was the "Awful Link of the Day," they're mocking the hobby, and it could have happened to any one of us. Of course, SA also mocked Darkstar's obsessive behavior, and didn't seem to have any issue with this site beyond "LOL geeky versus debate," so I guess that says something.

What's kind of annoying to me is that the scifi versus debate hobby is portrayed as hopelessly geeky, when the average person does this kind of thing all the time. Only it's about their favorite grown-up jocks, and they even 24-hour cable networks devoted to the topic.

Of course given the fact that Darkstar's response to being the ALoD was to send them a link to SD.net and Wayne Poe's webpage. The guy signed up here and posted that he thought this site was equally nuts but not paranoid and schizophrenic like RSA is. I'm surprised that they're now citing this as an ALoD years after the incident.

So how long before the Rabid Stupid Asshole starts his usual "analysis" on this?

I think if they really wanted to mock the site, they could have linked to something like the BDZ page, which goes into some detail about how much power it takes an ISD to slag a planet. That would seem to me to have much more fodder for "teh lamezorz" mocking, rather than the skimpy 5-minute shakedown of the debate.

That's the nice thing about being mature about a hobby: when someone mocks you for it, you shrug and say, "It's a hobby; it doesn't consume my life. Who gives a shit?"

It helps to be grounded. Let's face it, at the end of the day, Star Wars vs Star Trek doesn't consume my life the way it does Scooter's life. When my kids want me to help them with homework, I don't say "Not now, I need to defeat another Warsie conspiracy of lies."

Scooter, having absolutely nothing else in his life, has allowed this hobby to become an all-consuming passion, which is really sad.

I'm actually curious, has it really been confirmed this guy does nothing else but this particular hobby as you assert? I presume he at least works to pay bills and shit, but does he really spend the majority of his free time with this subject? If so, what was the source of this knowledge?
