Fucking Blue Laws

Virginia used to have blue laws. My understanding is that they did not prevent the businesses from being open but that workers would have to be payed 2.5 x normal wage. I think certain businesses were excempt and that they have been struck down now.

I know that here in Iowa, one gets paid slightly more when working on Sundays. I believe it's the same as if you are working on a holiday.
I don't mind working a Sunday if it means I get paid more.

Iowa used to have state run liquor stores that were only open on specific days with specific hours, usually something like 9-5. I think the first lightening of the state monopoly was when they started allowing supermarkets to cary beer and whine. I think they finally got rid of the state stores in the mid to late seventies.DPDarkPrimus wrote:I know that here in Iowa, one gets paid slightly more when working on Sundays. It's kind of annoying when you have run out of something on sundays and everything is closed, I got spoiled by the christmas season when stores were open on sundays. Fortunately there is a 24/7 gas station called ABC outside of Vasa, it has a small store you can find most things in, it's just driving distance instead of walking distance.
