Yes you did, and thanks for that. There's a little time lag between my posts and the game, I like thinking it over for a bit. Before you ran me, I tried and died.

While we're talking about GW we should post our main character's name.
Korihime Ortensia W20. (All my character's last names are Ortensia, so if you see an Ortensia running around on a European English server it's probably me).

Anera Whirl. Yes it's a Dervish, and yes it's unoriginal, so sue me.

I just went from 17 - 20 tonight, and beat a whole bunch of missions. Just past the Centaur one now. It seems I need 70 armor. I kept dying... they must've been hitting my 40 armor pants. I'm wearing mostly collector's 55's.

You just spelt arena backwards. ZOMG! :D

I've been using 70 armour since I got to the command post: 55 stuff hasn't been available since Istan. How come you've still got it?

Because I'm a lazy fuck, and I like seeing 10 plats in my bank. I can't stand the thought of spending 5 plats on clothes. I was also hoping for a collectors, but somebody told me there's none so what the fuck. Plus I doubt I have the raw materials, haven't checked.

Although I gave away a Necromancer Superior Death Magic rune today, worth 5 plats, so maybe I should get them. I'll only get them if I have to. You know it costs 5 plats to fashion a max stated weapon or focus, and I've been finding some on drops. What a rip.

You want to know how lazy I was. I had Koss using the 3 damage machete through all of Istan, and only just gave him a sword. I haven't changed any hero's skills other than Tahiti, to make her a healing monk so I could have two healers. I just changed Mel's weapon. How the hell did I survive? Who knows, I managed it. I have bought... maybe 3 hero skills. I haven't taken the game seriously at all.

I'm using Heart of Holy Flame and Heart of Fury along with Pious Assault to set mobs on fire... it looks fucking cool, I just stare at it. That's how seriously I take it :P.

Well you've got noone to blame but yourself. I dropped in total maybe 12k on armour for my Nightfall character (too lazy to farm, etc), but it's not like you can survive without it. My Koss uses a fricking burning gladius, none of that training machete nonsense.

Frankly, who takes the game more seriously: someone who plays it like they'll never play it again (Stark, Lord Zero Bank Balance) or someone who just has to have 10k in the bank for NO REASON? (Brian, Father of Misers)?

I don't blame anyone. It was fucking fast, just took a week to get this far. It was pretty fun.

I only looked at the armorer guy for ten seconds. I didn't know how important armor was until I started dying a lot the past couple days. Plus you use a burning sword? I just picked up a burning sword and gave it to Koss. Hahaha.

I don't know what the "traning machete" is, what does he gain more xp using the weak weapon or something. I didn't bother with changing anything on my heroes until I had to, usually when I started dying.

But you're right I should spend money. I'll look at it tomorrow.

You know, the 'starter machete' he starts with? THAT ONE. And you didn't know how important armour was? Have you ever played an RPG ever? You played Prophecies for fucks sake!

Since this thread is still going, figure I'll post this in here.

As it is, Brian and Ar-adunakor have joined my guild and I figured on extending the offer to anyone else on the board. Right now we're working towards a skill trainer (hence Brian's hamster like hording). Plan is to beat the game then go for PvP with PvE.

Yeah, that's the one, just didn't know what you meant by it, the 3 damage one right.

As for armor, dying, etc., I didn't mind it at all. The heroes armor leveled automatically, and the henchies carried me really far. Once DP gets to 60 there's nothing more, and dying means nothing, unless it happens too much. The difference between 55 and 70 only looks like 15, and I didn't know how the mechanics worked and still don't. It's not like other RPGs where you get some uber armor and it's called Powered Armor and it looks kickass so you wear it right away.

You know, you could look at the GW gamewiki to find out how armor works.

I did, I wasn't really paying attention when I did before. So 40 armor halves damage? That explains deathly swarm hitting me for 266 damage with my 5 armor gloves, and going down to 80ish or so when I got 55's :D.

Guys it's not big deal. You know how long it's been between 10 and 20? Like, 3 or 4 RL days. Might have been 2 RL days. Those 2.5k xp quest RPs are nice. I started a new job, so I didn't have much time to pay attention, and when I came home I was online mostly just to relax. It's not as if I spent a month or weeks. I'm not bashing GW or anything, I like it working this way. When I died I just watched my henchmen. It wasn't frustrating at all... and when I die Heart of Holy Flame and Heart of Fury sets them on fire.

EDIT: Okay I bought the armor, cleaned out my bank account buying the 32 linens. I thought hard about it, and 10k isn't really a lot of money. One glob of ectos buys for that much, and later on we should honestly throw around 100's of k like pennies. So it makes zero sense to be hoarding money now... it's like a beggar guarding a dumpster.

I am finally at the point where I have to think to beat missions and the henchmen and heroes can't carry you if you don't equip the heroes with the right skills: Dasha Vestibule.

I'm not sure if more difficult missions happened earlier. A couple missions I was run through. But so far this is the most difficult one.

As usual, there's a NPC who can't die, so you can't keep a monk in your party to rebirth if you're party wiped since the NPC doesn't retreat and can't follow your orders.

There's these flame traps. They're not a problem, but if you're not paying attention, the NPC can burn.

The main enemies are roaring ethers and djinns. If I don't kill the djinns first, they wipe out my whole party of henchmen and heroes with their high damage fire spells.

The roaring ethers resurrect themselves, so if you don't bring a mesmer henchman or don't equip Magrid with concussion shot or some kind of interrupt, you have to kill them twice.

If you aggro two groups, you're history. Mostly because your healers have no energy, and the djinns do a shitload of damage with their fire spells.

There's these chests to do the bonus. If you stray into the area of the chest without paying attention, three djinns spawn. They are easy, but if you're fighting three already, that's six and you're history if your monks are low on energy.

There's actually a puzzle. It's the first puzzle I remember in all the missions. It's pretty easy, just times tables. But if you get it wrong, four level 28 guys spawn out. They're easy, but if you don't wait before trying again, the henchmen and hero monks could run out of energy and you're boned. There's another easy puzzle asking about the gods, and if you get it wrong some easy guys spawn. But again, if you don't wait between questions and get two wrong in a row, your monks will be low on energy and you're fucked.

At the end there's 3 level 28 bosses. The first time I went through, I didn't know that the three bosses weren't together. They're actually not. You have to lure them one by one out of their camping spot.

Finally the real reason why this mission's difficult. If you do go through the entire mission with no mesmers and don't bring a ranger properly equipped or any kind of interrupt, this boss bones you. I had an 8 man party... four monks, two wars, me and a mesmer, all hench and npc. I lured the boss alone by himself from the pit. He hit all my guys, brought them to half health, and killed them all.

All in all, excellent.

So you just got done with the Hidden City mission Brian? That was a bitch, but I henched it after 8 tries. It seems Odura is packing several interrupts and coupled with pulling the other two bosses effectively, allows you to slaughter that fucking sunuvabitch.

Oh, and Wurms are sexy.

Edwyrd Nigma. Level 13.
I haven't played for a while but played today. I'm at the Frost Gate but I need to improve my armour\weapons. I don't know how you guys do it but I always have trouble scraping up some money. I've only got 1,500 gold to my name.

In Nightfall I've been rolling in money somehow: in Prophecies I was always broke an 1.5k was a serious amount of money for me.

LOL The change is remarkable - I actually had to deliberately farm in Prophecies to get one characters 60pt armour set. In Nightfall I've outfitted three characters with the money I've got simply playing normally, and I'm not as far in as Brian is.

I'm rolling in money too. I make 3k a night if I play 4 hours, maybe 1k if I play one hour at least. Without farming.

I just spent 2k on radiant's insignias.

Before I farmed, in prophecies I was broke all the time too. 10k was a lot of money for a non-farmer. But I don't suggest farming at all, too boring, get Nightfall.

As for henching it I wouldn't recommend it at all. Eight tries? Forget it, got to bring a real mesmer, or a hero at the least. But I suck at micro, there's no way I can manage a hero and my girl at the same time. Got to bring a player mesmer, or a player ranger or something with interrupts or you could waste an hour of playing.

I just signed in to see what type of ping I would get during the off hours for the university network (and the packet shaper), and I'm still getting 1.5 seconds or so. Hopefully, the network admin will increase the priority for me so that I'll actually be able to play. Not that I have all that much time to play, anyways, but it's a start.

Back when I started Guild Wars, I did all side quests, picking up all loot and horded any crafting material I found, buying new armor as it became available. When I reached droks I was only just able to afford the armor there. However the gold I acquired between there and finishing Hells Precipice was more than enough to buy armor for my second character.

The only time I actually went farming was for about a month in order to get FoW armor (which I got rid of again when I decided I preferred one of the new armor skins in factions). Though after I stopped buying stuff for my characters, I did manage to amass about 300k in gold from just normal play over a few months.

The only other times I've had trouble getting max stat armor/weapons for my characters was in the few weeks after the factions release (material shortages / prices skyrocketed for a bit there, then came back down) and during the Nightfall preview (material shortages / prices skyrocketing again, and no access to my stash).

Basically what I'm saying is that apart from your first character, you shouldn't have any trouble getting enough gold to equip your characters. I did quit Guild Wars shortly before Nightfalls release, but I'd be surprised if things have changed that much.

As a side note, have there been any changes to the Guild Wars trading systems, or is it still WT B/WT S spam or 3rd party solutions if you want to buy or sell anything ?

Oh no, why would they implement an auction house? That would be, quite simply, madness. Everyone enjoys general being full of trade messages! LOL!

It'd be nice to know whether you're being ripped off buying a powerful item. But I don't really care since I usually turn off general and trade. I also do not trade, and don't buy stuff from people. I keep all my stuff, or give it away, or break it down, or sell it to the merchant. GW isn't about items, so it's not a necessity that there be an auction house, it'd just be a little nicer and I don't mind that there isn't. Most trade is in Kamadan or Lion's Arch.

No really there should. There is no technical reason why there isn't one right now, and I though Factions was supposed to introduce new (less annoying) ways to trade.
