New Music for Christmas

Post by C.S.Strowbridge »

Since the "What are you listening to right now?" thread died I'd thought I'd start up a similar one. Although I might start that thread up again, just cause it gave me ideas on what CDs to buy next. Anywho, on to the topic of this thread:

What new music, if any, did you get for Christmas? I got:

Dave Matthews Band - Busted Stuff (which is basically the unrealeased Lilywhite sessions redone with more production.)

Big Shiny 90s - Compelation of 90s music from Much Music.

Angélique Kidjo - Fifa (an African singer, this album is awesome. Definitely not something you'd hear on the radio.)

Josh Groban - Josh Gorban (Classical singing. Not quite operatic. Has a duet with Charlotte Church, if that helps sum up the genre.)

Joe Satriani - Crystal Planet. Along with "Surfing with the Alien", this is the standard that all guitar albums are measured by. They're all electric guitar instrumental songs, and Joe gets to puts on a show of his shredding skills among other things. Damn can that guy ever play a guitar!

Tori Amos - Little Earthquakes. She's the best piano singer babe out there that I know of. I can't really describe her style, but think Sarah Slean since that's the only other person I can think of that's similar to Tori.

Paul Simon - Graceland. I got this album on Vinyl, it's a classic. Cool african rhythms and tunes and all that other fun stuff.

If you don't have it already, pick up his first album "Not of this Earth" 1986. I probably listen to this one more than the others.

Track picks:
Rubina
Driving at Night
The Snake

I wish I could find my MTV Unplugged tape with him and SRV together :(

I didn't get any music for Christmas. However, lately I have been listening to Creed's 'Weathered' album and Avril Lavigne 'Let Go.'

Don't ask.

I got an Ozzy Osbourne Live DVD. My boyfriend has got me a music DVD every Christmas (3) since we started going out. I don't know why, I don't have any others and I don't watch them very often.

I received:

Audioslave: a bloody BLOODY good album. First couple times through I liked it, afterwards I was in love with it. Don't expect Rage Against the Machine with a different voice, expect Soundgarden with a much better band backing Cornell. The lyrics are eloquent, the imagery stunning.

A couple of Led Zeppelin albums :D

Red Hot Chilli Peppers-Blood Sex Sugar Magic: I like the newer music better, but this album has some of the best bass playing in any modern rock album. Flea rocks 8)

A couple other really good albums I can't remember for some reason....(Probably because I can't get Audioslave out of my new CD player  )

Ohhhh that's the best album of the lot. The later ones are just too mellow for me.

Yeah, but I've been leaning towards mellower music lately. I still like hard rock, funk, and metal, but right now I'd rather put on a Doors or Marley album.

Right now, I think my ears are all burned out, after enduring weeks of more-or-less permanent torture with "Last Christmas". You can't avoid it. It finds you. Anywhere.

I loved the "what are you listening to?" thread.

I didn't get any new music for xmas this year, between the layoffs and local economy here, not many of us did gifts, just spent time together and ate :)

But I did find a new radio station here. One of the local college stations switched their format from jazz to AAA (adult album alternative), and it's awesome!

In the last hour, they've played:
Tracy Chapman, Neil Young, Delbert McClinton, Rolling Stones, Steve Earle, Crowded House, Jackson Browne, Coldplay, The Blind Boys of Alabama, Peter Gabriel...

Good stuff, Maynard.

Don't have much Tori Amos, but I have Sarah Slean's CD. I like 'piano singer babes' for a lack of a better term.

Avril Lavigne's good. Not some preformed pop singer like Britney.

Exactly. Her first song was great. The second one was really good to, it was very up beat. The rest of the album is a great mix of rock style songs. A few low key ones as well.

I tried downloading some songs from the Chantal (sp) singer. I got some damn version of Leaving on a Jet Plane. It was really good. The other four songs, all different names downloaded the same. Not only that, they went about a minute in and fucking stopped. I was pissed. Now I want to hear her songs even more.

Cool! Looks like we'll be getting another Chantal Kreviazuk fan. I tell you, the Canadian singer babes are taking over. Did I mention that Chantal's a hot babe too? Anyways, here's her website so you have some stuff to tide you over until until you get the songs downloaded. http://www.chantalonline.com

That is kinda funny. I like to make fun of Canucks too. Really it's because of the French Canadians. Now I am joked on as Steve-Dave from malrats because of that. But still, it's pretty strange. I used to listen to country a lot and was a big Garth Brooks fan and also, dun dun dun a Shania Twain fan. What the hell, she's Canadian. Well, I'm a huge Nickleback fan and a Default fan (they both came and performed at a concert here at the end of September. though I was already a meglo Nicklebak fan). Theory of a Deadman came too, and I have thier CDs. Now Avril Lavign, which I found out, she won a contest and got to sing on stage with, dun dun dun Shania Twain. lol. crazy stuff people. Either way, yeah, if I can pirate some of her songs, and they are as good as you wankers make em out to be, then that'll be another hot Canadian chick I'm a fan of. :D

Obsessive? It's not like I'm stalking Chantal around or anything (yet). Besides, how can you NOT like a babe who talks about sex, spooning, and makes masturbation references in front of 2600 people at a concert? :D

Plus, you know where she lives, thats gotta make you some sort of obsessor.
