What is your view of life?

Post by ray245 »

How about this, most of us already knows what's darth Wong view of life; why not share ours as well?

Well, let's treat it like a friendly interaction between the board. I strongly HOPE that this will not turn into a debate, let's put down our knives and smile at each other...

On the other hand...err...if that happens, I would have 4,000 people smiling towards me. It may get a little bit creepy if that happens.

Anyway, for my view of life is, well...treat it as simple as possible. Try looking at the positivist side of life, and you will find that life isn't as sucky as you think it is.

Sure, there are bad times, but it won't be like this forever, there's high and lows but just try and view that things will always get better.

Take things lightly, have fun with things you do. Try not to spent too much time on debates (just too ensure your points is accepted by everyone) , go out and meet new friends, and always try your best not to abandon your friends. Spent times with your family, your parents, know the differences between being dependent on them and being independent yourself.

There's no damn differences between jocks and nerds, I mean a normal person at the least will do both items right? What, can't a school champion in basketball or football do well in his studies and a 'nerd' plays a decent level of sports?

There's always a time to play, and a time to study.

At times suspend your logic like there's no gods or higher being(s), to things like star wars not being real. There's always fun in knowing how things may become, isn’t it?

Start singing the song 'Always look on the bright side of life'.

I prefer "On the Sunny Side of the Street", one of our favorites in Jazz Band.

Anyways, my philosophy on life is simple. Sometimes bad stuff happens. Get over it.

On the Sunny Side of the Street? Cool...

Anyway, can we please don't flame anyone for his view of life, no matter how much you dislike it?

I mean it's his view of life, don't try converting or forcing him to accept your own views. Give advice...err...MAYBE...I afraid it may turn this into a flame war between whose advice is better...just try and refrain from doing those...thanks..

"You do what you know, and when you know better, you do better."
-Maya Angelou

I like this quote and it has a lot of affect on my life. It emphasizes both compassion and education. It has no tolerance for still doing 'wrong' once you are educated. I apply this to my life everyday. I would say it's a view I have on life- educate yourself and act accordingly.

So it's a continous loop to refine what your knowledge and get better and better?

Well, like they say education never ends while you are still alive. There's always room for improvement. Err...can I ask the mods one thing? Which place is better for this topic? Science, logic and morality or OT? I'm not too sure myself.

I follow, for every action there is a reaction. That everything that has happened to the world and to yourself is the result of what we do no matter how minute. There is no act of god or the devil, it's just us and nature.

It's the reason I follow that every single person is important no matter how many of us there are. There are billions of us in the world and counting, yet every one of us affect each other in some way by the decisions each of us make. Thus, we should not feel small or worthless but to strive in getting better so that the effects of our decisions will be better too.
I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in his stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Counciler or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate, who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who constantly says: "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I cannot agree with your methods of direct action"; who paternalistically believes he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by a mythical concept of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait for a "more convenient season."

My view on life? Heh. . .

"Life is hard. Then you die. Then they throw dirt on your face. Then worms eat you. Be happy it happens in this order." Solomon Short, fictional character of David Gerrold.

On the one hand, Im fatalistic about a lot of things. Nothing you do will change anything. Its a futility to try to improve the world, and millions will die or live in misery no matter what you try to do, and they will fight to their last breath to continue it. Im apathetic about child soldiers; nothing can be done.

On the other, Im optimistic about my life. Work hard, work smart, and you get what you want. I just dont think it will change the system in place; I just want to learn how to work that system.

I'm an optimist person. I believe that logic, science and knowledge will eventually solve the majority of human material problems, and hope to live to that day.

In personal life, I believe that all people should be responsible towards each other. If you behave like an asshole, be ready to take the same from others. You should either hold to your words or keep your mouth shut, because responsibility is the key concept of good relationships. I love sex and think that human institutions, while useful to the society, should be less restrained and allow for freelove-type communities, "Sweden families" and other types of sexually related collectives.

I also believe humans are, for the most part, good, and capable of logical thought and empathy towards fellow beings; however, some artificial constructs of society, as well as natural factors of evolution, hinder these abilities and sometimes make humans act cruelly and commit much evil.

I believe all humans must do useful work in which they find pleasure, be it physical or mental work, and thus the most displeasing work places have to go. I work myself and has done so since being 16, at a physical job (lifter) and think that most people should get a taste of that at some point in life.

Well, duh.

I like Cairber's philosophy. ^_^

In any case, mine is something of an extension of Talen's two views. I figure, if I can make my own life better, I'll be in a position to make someone else's better as well. I don't have to try to change the fates of millions. If that happens, cool... but it's enough to change one life at a time, isn't it?

I mean, so many different people helped me and mine, and there's no way I could even think about repaying them... but I owe it to them, and to myself, to succeed in life. And once I'm there, I can help others in the same way, ne?

My life philosophy goes something like this:

Always forward, never back.

Help for the sake of helping.

Shit happens and you deal with it.

I just look forward to the new day, the new experience and really don't wish to go back. Everything that happens, happens and there's no way out of it. The spice of life really. I help people because I want to, not because I expect anything out of it. And I'm as relaxed as a pair of jeans. I don't worry much and when a problem crops up, I deal with it until I solve it.

Somewhere, I have a newspaper cut-out. It shows a brick wall; starting from the left, it's sloppily done, but it gets better, and neater, until the right side has a cap made out of brick dust and mortar. The caption reads, roughly, "By the time I was finished, I knew enough to start."

I believe that life is about learning, and applying that knowledge to help people. The greatest good for the greatest number, and all that jazz. Any knowledge which does not help you or others is not worth knowing.

I suppose I could quantise my shifting outlooks into pretty simplistic sentences.

You all know how to not be a dick, so just don't be one. Manners cost nothing. Life is meaningless, but fun and shit occasionally. An asteroid or disease is coming to wipe us all out, so just appreciate everything while it's here. Be glad you've got it better than most of the world. Don't get bogged down in stupid bullshit, remember those that you love are more important, so just use the system to get a better life, smile and nod. Be prepared to be as ruthless as the situation requires.

You might want to reconsider using the word positivist. Perhaps you mean "positive"?

I think he might have meant "most positive".
A Government founded upon justice, and recognizing the equal rights of all men; claiming higher authority for existence, or sanction for its laws, that nature, reason, and the regularly ascertained will of the people; steadily refusing to put its sword and purse in the service of any religious creed or family is a standing offense to most of the Governments of the world, and to some narrow and bigoted people among ourselves.

Reactionary:

Attempt to resolve any situation in a way that will result in the best overall conditions for as many individuals as possible. (Try not to be an arse.)

Actions:

Making the attempt, after careful consideration of the consequences, will either produce an acceptable result or justification to complain about it. A win win either way. Permission's always a good thing to ask when the consequences are severe, otherwise forgiveness works when things can only go slightly wrong.

If you're interested, I have an "IBM spel chekr. Slitely uzed, still gud" for sale. :P All spell checkers can do is see if a word is spelled wrong, not if it's the right word. That's for you to do.

That's the thing: your spell checker did work, insofar as any spell checker can work. "Positivist" is a real word, it just happens to refer to someone who holds a particular set of epistemological beliefs.

I hold the Batman philosophy that people are inherently bad or even evil but can be capable of acts of kindness.

Everyone puts their self-interests ahead of others and will only help if it furthers their own agenda or gives them some sort of personal reward. So kindness is merely a result of personal gratification.

Despite what appears to be a cold outlook on life I try to help others when they need it only because I figure no one else will.

LOL just a bit of a departure from the other thread participants.

"Optimists believe these are the best of times, pessimists fear that they are right."

I'm a fatalist thats just one little cog in the cycle of the universe. Birthed, live, die, and hopefully do something good, decent, and productive inbetween the two limits.

I am a stepping stone. For at least a couple of generations my ancestors worked hard for their children so that one day I could be born near the apex of comfort and freedom in the thus far brief and tragic history of our species.

I owe it to them to work to continue this world such that one day our descendants will be able to understand joy and participate in the universe with a depth we could never fathom. At best I will die having made a tiny but honest start towards this. And in the end if all life fades in a great heat death, still it's been grander than any personified god could conceive.

In the meantime, this collection of atoms knows love, and the emptiness of the mystery means a beauty too keen to be missed. Look for it everywhere. Stay healthy and offer the greater good to everyone you can, without regard to how much they deserve. Learn what you can and do what you can, knowing there are no guarantees but that you will die in sincere ignorance of the ultimate ends. Amen to being human.
Every day is victory.
No victory is forever.

Three simple words.

"The Dude abides"
"A person is smart. People are dumb, panicky, dangerous animals and you know it. Fifteen hundred years ago everybody knew the Earth was the center of the universe. Five hundred years ago, everybody knew the Earth was flat, and fifteen minutes ago, you knew that humans were alone on this planet. Imagine what you'll know...tomorrow."

My view of life:

Well, I don't have a motto or anything like that. No goal I'm working toward.

I just kind of live from day to day. And try to do nothing too evil.

Actually kind of sucks.
