Probably unintentionally.
His Saffi is better than the one in the game... which reminds me... Where's the captain?

Hmm...from a neutral standpoint, I would say the graphics and background music in BC is much better than Last Bastion.
Voice acting, I like Last basiton, because the characters sound...well...more in depht. The voice actors of LB actually feels like they are really in the universe, and can feel the emotions. BC feels like very flat, and I don't even feel there any emotions in the voice. Furthermore, I like the Jack Sparrow voice, WAY cooler.
You could always ask more people to do the space and ship sequence, I think there's plenty of star wars fans who are VERY willing to create clips of star destroyer destroying a star trek ship using PROFESSIONAL modelling software on Scifi 3D.
I also think there's quite a few animators and modellers on SD.net although asking for help at spacebattles may help, given they have done plenty of space battle animations.

I really like the little trailer that was made for BC.
Mainly for the music and it fits rather well from a dramatic point of view.

Speaking of the music... its bugging me that I can remember it but not where from... anyone know ?

I think it's known from Matrix 2, but not certain. Having movie music and slow FMV shots doesn't make a good short when the rest is completely shit. It's like having a Star Wars battle intro then to puppet theatre.
"Somehow I feel, that in the long run, Thanos of Titan came out ahead in this particular deal."
Why does the Star Destroyer have theater-type shielding? The varient is used occasionally in the universe, but every time we see ISD shield interactions in the films, they are always skin-tight. Is it a limitation of the game engine, or are the producers just lazy?Meest wrote:I think it's known from Matrix 2, but not certain. I'm guessing in the Bridge Commander game, each faction has a different coloration or style of shielding, I remember someone asked why he gave the Imperials the Romulan Green shield and he said it was just something he whipped together real fast, but he'd try to use another faction (I can't remember which) that has invisible shielding or something.Noble Ire wrote:Why does the Star Destroyer have theater-type shielding? It's defined in each vessel's hardpoint, but yes, many factions have their own customary shield colour - red for Klingon, yellow for Ferengi, these were simply copied from the stock ships.I'm guessing in the Bridge Commander game, each faction has a different coloration or style of shielding
You can give the impression of skinshields by making the shield bubble transparent. Weapon impacts will still stop on the invisible bubble, but the effect is one of skin shielding.

1. I am apparently doomed to never see background stars in that kind of film.
( at Poe)
2. I haven't seen more than 20 seconds of Ep II (first link I found when browsing this thread) and I already hate it for its abuse of the adorable Dragonheart theme (especially as the classic TMP/TNG theme would have sufficed methinks, AND have been 'in-character' if that can be applied to a franchise).

I'm curious what The creator thinks is the #1 reason this series is better than Last Bastion?

Hmm...would the a failure mode of said device involves shoving a stream of positrons in the opposite direction. Alas, I may be good with a pencil, but animations are a bit beyond my ken, so the most I can do is cheer Last Bastion on.

I can agree that he has a better computer, and his ships and the graphics look better. But story? Characterization? Fun factor? Actors that can move around the bridge and emote?Crossroads Inc. wrote:The Author of "Better than Last Bastion" Speaks!!!

Hey, maybe I'm biased, but I like my shit better!
Actually, I don't like his Star Destroyer better. It looks like the Lego version of the Star Destroyer.
He also has access to a lot of good mods for BC that helps with camera movement. But my computer is a Model T compared to what I'd have to use to utilize all those mods!
I did a real simple effect in part 3 when the USS Guardian flies over the Impassive. It was basically a cut-out Sovvie superimposed over a pass of the Star Destroyer from Jedi Academy!

minor nitpick: the scaling seemed a bit off on that shot. The Sovie too small/ISD too big.Lord Poe wrote:I did a real simple effect in part 3 when the USS Guardian flies over the Impassive. It was basically a cut-out Sovvie superimposed over a pass of the Star Destroyer from Jedi Academy!

Well, you need to tell him that. Afterall, he clearly subscribes to the notion that HIS personal opinion of which is better constitutes a valid argument. Whats good for the goose...Lord Poe wrote:Hey, maybe I'm biased, but I like my shit better!

If this is going to be a challenge of SW vs ST fanfilms, I think we might be biased to compare which is better.
SW fans are going to prefer the fact that SW wins over the EXACT quality of the film. The same goes to trekkies.
Think we should ask spacebattles to compare the two fanfilms, given their NEUTRAL standpoint.

Come on ray. You don't need to prefer one over the other to realize one is funny as hell and the other is almost as boring as the guy Wayne is parodying.
Any rational person can see Wayne's is more realistic.
And I was never all that impressed with the general mentality at SB.com

What do you mean, "neutral standpoint"?ray245 wrote:Think we should ask spacebattles to compare the two fanfilms, given their NEUTRAL standpoint.
A Government founded upon justice, and recognizing the equal rights of all men; claiming higher authority for existence, or sanction for its laws, that nature, reason, and the regularly ascertained will of the people; steadily refusing to put its sword and purse in the service of any religious creed or family is a standing offense to most of the Governments of the world, and to some narrow and bigoted people among ourselves.

Well, it only happens if the poop-annihilator containment field fails. You should follow all security procedures when using the QFPRSC, and avoid pissing directly on the EPS conduits powering the device. Also, in the event of a shipwide power failure, you must make sure to vent the positrons into space from all on-board QFPRSC, less they explode and deny the crew an efficient, safe and clean method of disposing bodily waste.wilfulton wrote:Hmm...would the a failure mode of said device involves shoving a stream of positrons in the opposite direction. On SpaceBattles and impartiality: Most of the movies there are of the "Hundreds of ships duking it out" variety, with absolutely no characters in them. Why should they be the best judges of quality?
