Does Anyone Like the Pet Shop Boys?

Post by Big Orange »

Has anyone heard of and like the somewhat underrated pop duo, the Pet Shop Boys? Here's a Wikipedia article right here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pet_Shop_Boys. They were at the top of their game from the mid to late 1980s to the early 1990s, but they still had a few hits since 1995 - my favourite Pet Shop Boy tracks are "West End Girls", "Being Boring" and "Opportunities" (off the top of my head).

Does anyone else like them?

Yeah I like them. My favorite tracks are "Rent", "Domino Dancing" and "Suburbia".

They're great. Especially "New York City boy" and "Domino Dancing".

I grew up on 80's music since my oldest sister is 10 years older than me and I'm the youngest of 5 girls, so yeah I loved The Pet Shop Boys.

They're not my favorite but I'll tolerate them if there's nothing better on the radio.

Yes in the general grouping along with a lot of 80s music that I like, though I don't actively listen to them.

I like them, but C.C. Catch is waaay cooler. :P

And of course, the song that became a hit in Russia, Y.M.C.A. (no one understands what this is about, but people have fun when this song is on).

They're pretty good, I like them. I don't listen to them very much, but that has other reasons.

Why do people assume the Pet Shop Boys were purely 80s when they still had a fairly big hit as recently as last year?

I think of them as an 80's band cause that's when I listened to them most and because they were more popular back then. I assume most other people think of them as an 80's band because of the same reasons.

Why are you getting all huffy about it? :P

I assume it's not unlike how North American's might consider David Hasslehoff washed up yet he's the toast of Germany (or at least was until recently). :P

Even if Britain still loves the Pet Shop Boys, maybe most everywhere else has moved on.

Nah, I'm not getting huffy about anything, but I agree the Pet Shop Boys were at their most popular in the late 80s and early 90s (I noticed that 1991 in terms of era is much closer to 1985 than it is to 1997 for the most part).

It would've been cool if Pet Shop Boys musice was featured on a Grand Theft Auto soundtrack and according to era (ie "West End Girls" for Vice City [mid 80s] and "Being Boring" for San Andreas [early 90s]).

My mother listened to them a lot, so I have kind of a soft spot for them. Not quite as keen on their more recent stuff, but it always seems to be worth a listen.

I've only heard "Blue Monday," but I personally think that's one of the best electronic songs ever made.
